not that I'm totally aware of, I've always had fears like I wouldn't go into large buildings as a kid because of worrying about fire etc. Had anxiety and panic over stuff since I was a young kid, suppose its why I hate normies who brag about having anxiety disorders because I haven't been able to do anything. Some military history too. Currently reading "The Last Battle" which is definitely worth a read. The author does an excellent job of keeping it narrative interesting whilst not compromising the reality of the events. Tried to get copies of Mailed Fist and Tank!. Unfortunately, my copy of Mailed Fist turned up in German, and I couldn't find any others in English, and Tank! I just couldn't find for love nor money.

Overall, I try to keep my reading list fairly varied.

No, I live on a farm, one of about 5 down my lane and as the neighbourhood knows me as someone of little words but a knack for animals they started bringing me orphaned and injured wild birds. They are pretty easy, especially fledglings, they open their mouths when they're hungry and fly off when they're ready but most of all they know they're wild, it's in their blood.
Keith however came to me via my landlord next door finding him in the straw in the cow barn, he couldn't put him back as the nest was like 30' up so not knowing what to do he brought him to me. His parents are racing pigeons and as he was so young and genetically tame he imprinted on me as his parent, he believes he's a human and there's no persuading him otherwise ie walking downstairs.
Believe me, I never expected to be sharing my life with a pigeon but he's made my life better for being in it.

I know your probably joking but I did give this a lot of thought over the years. I used to watch reviewbrah when he was in the late hundreds early thousands levels of viewership with maybe 1-5 comments on his videos, now hes exploded and become insanely popular somehow.

Another shit thing is the loss of the British manufacturing industry, I'm an engineer by trade, or I was, and when I started people used to be able to leave school and apply at the factory gates. I worked in places where people spent their entire working life on the same shop floor. It'd do my head in personally but each to their own. The only way to find out how shit works is to find out for yourself, your parents won't help because I suspect that'll mean they lose their carer's benefit for you and one of them might have to get a job. Maybe look online at your local college and seeing what short evening courses they do, I was bored and learned Visual Basic a longass time ago for instance. It didn't serve any purpose whatsoever but it gave me something to do and a vague sense of achievement, much as the old fella does with the seagulls (who I'm guessing is a widiwer).

Petrol stations always seem to want staff because most people can't handle being awake in the night and asleep in the day. It's not like you have to worry about taking the kids to school or any other inflexible commitment so nights would seem to be a reasonable suggestion.

I haven't spoken to a single person in my maths/english foundation class since I started, I just nod my head at the tutour. I don't know whats happening with that, I don't know if its a phobia or what but I seem unable to communicate like my lips are sealed and stuff is moving too fast. I usually just walk out after failing without saying anything. I'm suprised I managed to talk on that video tbqh. Its the longest and loudest i've done for a very long time and even though I stumbled and didn't speak my words clearly at times there is visible room for improvement.

I agree with you about fault-finding not necessarily being a bad thing. That said, the context of the quote indicates that Mill was referring to the ordinary meaning of dissatisfied. He was criticising Jeremy Bentham's theory of utilitarianism - that humans are nothing more than pleasure seekers and society should be organised to distribute the most pleasure (of all kinds) possible. In saying he would rather be Socrates dissatisfied, Mill was saying that there are such things as 'higher pleasures' (specifically learning things, developing new skills, and developing oneself) that are more important than just being hedonistic

Wtf evening course did you apply for that needs you to do the functional shit, theoretical physics? There's all sorts of short courses (ie 12 weeks), looking at my local paper now there's silversmithing, tractor maintenance and horticulture for instance. Nowt about foundation qualifications first, was the course you were looking at a longer one? Try a shorter one first, get some confidence doing something interesting. Those foundation courses must be as bad as being back in school.

I've got no idea but I probably wouldn't do that stuff anyway, I'd be unmotivated as I am now, If I google it I barely find anything and the college sites are complete shit. If they offered a course on how to navigate poorly designed and laid out educational and goverment websites I would take it in a heart beat.

Yes. petrol stations do do that. I've seen two this week, one on a swingy board thing and the other on a sign at the till. Robberies do happen obviously but I bet they didn't nick much, petrol stations are hardly worth doing if it's a little one in a small, seasonal town. And they have panic buttons anyway, it's not like you'd get shot for 30 quid and a handful of Mars bars.

Small talk makes me feel extremely uncomfortable and boderline unwell if I just have to listen to strangers doing it, I don't think i'll ever do it or want to. I think Bentham's way of quantifying pleasure and pain in the hedonistic calculus was what Mill was referring to in saying Socratic dissatisfied, motivation is also a part of Arete. This was an ancient Greek way of pursuing and attaining the higher pleasures that you refer to; to do something well, to do it so you understand it intrinsically, to do it to the absolute best of your ability (which is where the motivation comes in), to attain excellence and quality in whatever it is a person has set out to achieve.
