Why dont you skateboard robot? You meet a lot of people just from being on a board even if you suck.
I used to ride BMX for years. Most of the guys were honestly cool and really helpful, meanwhile skateboarders here were the biggest cunts. Always loved skating but hated the people
I skate, nobody else here does though. I like doing it alone though, the thought of skating with people makes me nervous.

im thinking of picking it up since i have a decent skateboard
what should i learn first? ollie? any tips?
>>38636230
I think skateboarders became less cultish in the last five years or so
>>38636296
Go to a decent park and chill out people will greet you especially if you have a cigeratte.
>>38636349
Learn how to ride one first. Get a cruiser board not a penny board or longboard but those phat skateboard looking ones. Eventually you'll be comfortable and then try either ollies and shuv-its both basic tricks,
i used to when i was younger, now i am learning BMX

what can you do so far?
>>38636075
I stopped (mostly) because eventually you get to the point where continuing to improve your street skating is going to get you hurt badly at some point and likely cause chronic joint pain later in life. Surfing was always my real thing and just skated on the side so I stopped skating seriously. I still skate low-impact vert stuff probably once or twice a week late at night at the park when the scooter kids have gone home to bed.

Exact opposite around here, other than a few exceptions. The BMXers were aggressive shitheads and the skaters were chill except for 2 super aggro sponsored dudes who would yell at people, snap boards, etc.

If you haven't done any board sport before just learn to ride it around before trying to get into any kind of tricks. Learn a solid ollie before anything else as that's the foundation of many tricks and will also make riding around more fun - ollieing up gutters/down stairs etc.

Progressing really slow due to fear of falling, I can bunnyhop and am learning manuals, soon will be learning 180, what about you?
>>38636696
i was never that good and only ride street but i really loved it. best i could do was probably 360 down a small 2-3 stairs
learn how to fakie first and put on some pegs. grinding is really fun

>eventually you get to the point where continuing to improve your street skating is going to get you hurt badly at some point and likely cause chronic joint pain later in life
so true. this is why i stopped skating and became a programmer.
I'VE BEEN SKATING FOR A YEAR AND ALL I KNOW IS HOW TO OLLIE OVER THINGS
HELP
>want to get into skating
>basic requirements are willing to smoke weed and bully younger kids in my area
>dont think ive ever seen any of the "skaters" actually ride their boards
I guess I was just born 18 years too late for this
>>38637204
Took me a full year to get my ollie down over and then some for over things. Just progress at your own pace man thats the beauty
>>38637390
they're just posers anon, i wouldn't worry about them
>>38636075
dude i fuqqed up my ankle from skating back when i was young, never going back
>>38637642
Stick to vert and small street stuff. You WILL fuck your body up if you get seriously into street. It's just not worth it.
>>38636961
All the people I used to skate with, in the prime of their lives at mid 20s to early 30s, have health issues from skating - from fucked up feet/ankles/knees/hips to chronic back pain etc. So glad I stopped when I did.
>>38637390
lol, actually the weed smoking and bullying have decreased (a bit) over the years, at least here in central europe

I do. I've seen that one of the most important things people never really learn is how to fall properly, and the fear of falling usually puts people off skating. The video i've linked covers it really well. Once you get good at it you never really get hurt, personally it's saved my ass a fair few times.

On an unrelated note, the skate scene in my area is super chill, I've only seen like 1 or 2 posers hanging around.. although i live in the UK, so maybe we just have a different attitude to skating.
I really really want to and I was outside on my board but whenever I make speed I've got the fear of falling. I know I'm going to fall eventually, that's the nature of the sport, but I feel like it's really limiting my potential.

whereabouts pal?
>>38638466
I'm down south, a lot of people here skate street because we only have a small park that's usually packed with scooters
>>38638591
safe, south east here, similar situation, have to go down the park at night to dodge all the scooter kids
