Personally I don't care how tall a man is, he can be shorter than me. However, the vast majority of women do want a man taller than her. Doesn't have to be a whole lot taller, but yeah. Depends on the woman to be fair. A lot are fine with him just being taller, even by a bit, while some others want a guy that's like 6'3 or something.

I think to men it height matters to, some are intimidated or just not attracted to women taller than them, but again everyone has different tastes and I do notice they give less of a shit than women do about this particular detail.

This is all based on my own experience, since people on the internet do enjoy exaggerating about this

Most women want a man significantly taller than themselves, to the extreme of excluding the vast majority of the male population. Most men don't really care much about height. They're generally satisfied with anybody shorter than themselves (ie, the vast majority of the female population), whether by an inch or a whole foot.
This pattern applies to nearly everything when it comes to male vs. female attraction -- women generally have stricter demands.
