so anon what did you have for dinner tonight?
>>
>>38420502
Any science degree unless you have at least a Masters, but preferably PhD. If you have a bachelors you're literally just a lab bitch washing their glassware and doing remedial shit that someone with an associates could do
>>
>>38420502
Anything ending with 'Studies'.
English.
Journalism.
If you're in the States, Compsci/ECE/Programming is dead-end because H1-B
>>
film studies are pretty stupid imo.
>>
>>38420578
This guy is also correct. If you go for science, you gotta go grad school.

Most degrees by their selves are useless. Networking/being a sycophant is what will land you a job out of college. A degree is just paying for training.
>>
How is mechE?

What degrees would you recommend for a talentless robot?
>>
>>38420502
Psychology and philosophy have to be up there
>>
>>38420658
I did not, but I'm applying for grad school this year. This job and all the jobs I find are making me hate my field
>>
computer science unless you like being depressed
in which case it's wonderful
>>
>>38420502

Anything but law, medicine, engineering, STEM, Industry, management, economics etc. Is useless.
>>
>>38420737
Good luck man. I'm heading down to a grad school for a sci-intensive engineering field, only one place took me, but at least it was a good place.

Completely agree. Picrelated screencap explains it pretty well.
>>
>>38420762
Most of these are useless too though
>>
>>38420809
Not really, you need to go through grad school and become a doctor, then do post-doctoral study. By the time you actually get a job in it, you're into your 30s. It's highly saturated right now.
>>
>>38420816

Then almost everything is useless, I guess?
>>
I'm thinking about studying medicine but y'all making me very insecure now.
>>
>>38420773
What's the field? I'm kind of worried about if I'll get accepted anywhere, I'm applying for Masters and PhD, but the applications are so damn expensive and I'm nervous about asking for recs, especially because I've been out of school for over a year
>>
>>38420502
What are your guys opinions on Accounting?
>>
>>38420582
I think you forgot philosophy.

Oh, and you can get jobs with compsci, but those positions will probably be among the first to go in the next economic downturn

Psychology is only useful if you follow a ~10 year track of complete bullshit to become a clinical psychiatrist, who make a lot of money and don't have to work nearly as hard as physicians and other medical specialists
>>
>>38420883
Medicine is a good field, but it's hypercompetitive. You need to be both smart and extremely diligent if you want to become a doctor.
>>
>>38420737
which job? what is your degree?
>>
>>38420853
Yes, 90% of college degrees are pointless. This nothing new
>>
>>38420897
Accounting is a solid choice. You tend to get long hours and it's not attractive (if for some reason you give a shit about that), but the money is good, and finding a job won't be that hard.
>>
Most are useless nowadays. College is just a way to postpone adulthood for another 4 years.

4 years of work experience is infinitely more valuable than a college degree. That or joining the military for all the benefits they get
>>
>>38420502

It doesn't matter in this shithole, there's one doctor for every 200 humans. They'll even hire fresh-out-of-college kids as long as they fill their quota.
If shit goes south I'll sit my ass on a sewing machine and continue mom's business, shit sells well
>>
>>38421016

Incoming indisputable best jobs:

Good Tier
>Bachelors in STEM
>MBA
>Some military positions

Bad tier
>Most military positions
>Some trade school positions

Starbucks tier
>Any liberal art degree that doesn't end in a teaching position (read: PhD or at least multiple masters)
>Most trade school positions

>>
>>38421116
>mfw starting master's in non-civic engineering next month
I'm OK with this.
>>
>>38421116
I disagree with law in great tier, it's become extremely over-saturated, and incurs a ton of debt.
>>
Doubt anyone knows but how's mortician?
>>
>>38421116
I think having a teaching degree and helping young minds and all that deserves good tier adding but other than that I completely agree
>>
>>38421185
I think it really depends on the school and your connections. I go to a middle tier law school but because of muh family connections I'm probably getting a fairly decent job when I'm done clerking.
>>
>>38421116
To be quite honest, liberal arts degrees aren't even bad as long as
1.) you're genuinely skilled and interested in what you're studying before you start studying it
2.) you work your ass of with odd jobs and internships to build that motherfuckin resume
3.) you sell out and make yourself corporate and employable
can talk from experience
>>
>>38421243
That makes sense, but without those connections, it's a dangerous pitfall for those who don't know what they're doing.
>>
>>38420897 Accountant here. Not fun and a lot of redditors do it but good money and once you get that first job and pass CPA you'll never worry about going hungry since there's currently a shortage and likely to be one for the next ten to fifteen years

>law degree without connections

philosophy has decent prospects though as per any stat you can find.
>>
>>38420502
Every degree, you're going to be crushed in debt no matter what.
>>
>>38421342
Lots of students go into law not knowing what they're doing, and end up with part-time jobs unrelated to the degree. Law school also costs much more than the average degree, so it's even more of a risk for those who have no connections.

Hi there!
You seem to have made a bit of a mistake in your post. Luckily, the users of 4chan are always willing to help you clear this problem up! You appear to have used a tripcode when posting, but your identity has nothing at all to do with the conversation! Whoops! You should always remember to stop using your tripcode when the thread it was used for is gone, unless another one is started! Posting with a tripcode when it isn't necessary is poor form. You should always try to post anonymously, unless your identity is absolutely vital to the post that you're making!
Now, there's no need to thank me - I'm just doing my bait to help you get used to the anonymous image-board culture!

>>
>>38425616
Finished my JD last year, just job hunting now. Right now I'm living with a roommate and had a bit of clerk positions in the past year but nothing solid (lawyers don't want permanent clerks anyway).
I'm thinking of just putting up a shingle or whatever (showing my town I'm up for anything that pays) but life isn't so bad right now - it's better than if I had stopped after my bachelors anyway.
I'm not autistic but I'm fairly awkward (a cyborg perhaps?) and law is pretty good for that depending on the field. I have a friend in med school now and says it's the hardest thing he's ever done by fair, but then law school wasn't exactly a walk in the park either.
You can get away with being a high-paying autist in both professions though.

depending on how far you are in your major it might not be worth it to switch now. I would recommend networking through your school's career center if you go to a good networked school and if not aggressivly chasing internships and other oppertunities independently. Also consider dropping the foreign language double major for something that's more marketable to law firms and schools like econ or poli sci. I'm just saying to drop it out of a career standpoint, if its a passion you want to pursue you can go for it so long as you network more to make up for it.

Work your ass off in college (3.7 at the very least with all those stupid ass clubs and whatnot) and go to a t10 law school. Then go into divorce law for 6-8 years.
This is the quickest way to make money if that's all you're after (easily clearing 200k per year after a half decade of work) but man it's going to be fucking boring. I have a buddy that does divorce law now that makes nearly 200k but his day is usually mediating out two chucklefucks who got married too early and are now at each other's throats over the fucking dog or something.

Coming from a family where both my parents were doctors and now working at a BB I can tell that doctors are just as much shills as finance types. No one puts in the amount of work it takes to be a doctor without going for the money first and foremost. The "helping humanity aspect" is just a side gimmick. Not saying that finance types help the world in the same way the medical field does, just saying that their both just shills doing it for the money. No one puts in the amount of hours of work that both fields require without it being about the money.

It's always about money. Anyone who says otherwise is lying for brownie points

Do it
A bachelor of math is useless, a phd is a goldmine

Yeah grad school might be the move. If you don't have programming exp, summer internships, or family connections lined up in business, you should consider starting a PhD program. Even at a shitty school. Spend time wisely, and try and pick up some programming if you can. Stay until you can pick up the masters on the way out, or finish the program entirely. Easy

I'm not so sure. A lot of Math PhDs have lots of great skills built up, but I wouldn't be so certain that a new PhD in Algebraic Topology has the career prospects that everyone talks about.

Take cyber security if your uni offers it.

You still get math classes but they are actually good, cryptography especially is cool.

What are pleb filter majors? Ones where people who enter it just won't make it if they're even slightly a brainlet

The field is just so versatile for different jobs and teaches you some useful things about biz and finance in the meanwhile,
Any thoughts on economics? I think its pretty good the thing is near no one considers it.

One of the best, if you can be a quant you'll easily make a lot of money.
Then you can retire early as a millionaire and maybe just trade a bit to keep making a lot.

It's way too generalized. Jack of all trades, master of none.

See the thing is anon, imo you can get any degree you want at the bachelors level if you work hard enough for it. I think it's really graduate degrees that take real brainpower on top of having extremely good work ethic.

Msc in chem here. I can give you a break down for chem (Canada) as I'm an expert:

option 1 - BSc and mindless 15-20$/hr dead end job

option 2 - MSc and either super lucky like me or have to do PhD. I know masters grads working at gas stations, liquor stores (because lulz I wanted to be a food chemist anyway, so deluded) and retail. I'd say about 5% get lucky, 45% do a phd, 50% fuck off to oblivion (even delete their fb they're so ashamed).

Option 3 - phd. Takes forever, years of forgone income, about 1/10 gets a good job commensurate with their skill level. 4/10 into oblivion again (yes knew a guy that did retail) and 5/10 into post doc holding patterns where they sign a 1-3 year contract to make almost no money and beg for a prof position to open up. All of the phds have to be ready to move anywhere for work too - ie. job in fucksville tenessee? off they go.

Option 4 - bsc then switch to management, chem eng, something and pray to god.

ex gf just finished phd and im pretty sure she's suicidal at 30 with no money saved, no car, no house, never traveled and vag is wrecked from me pounding it for years before dumping her.

so ya, fuck anyone that says chem is a good degree

my question is (bear in my mind I am very frugal and don't care about it) how much can I live off in England?maybe my lifestyle will aid my stupid educational decisions...

I believe no degree is useless. If you enjoy what you're studying and you can afford it, good for you. Even if you don't get a high paying job it's better than forcing yourself to get something else just to be a slave for Shekelstein.

Here in our shitty 3rd world country, I think Bachelor of Arts major in History is the most insignificant course offered in our school.

Lemme tell you how this shit works in the UK:
>Bsc Psych 3 years
Absolute shit show of a degree, even offered in universities you need like one a level (one grade) to get accepted because of how hamfisted the courses are.
>Msc in chosen field of Psych one year
This is where the filters start because pretty much most masters require around a year's experience of working in that field before applying, meaning those roasties who fucked about all those summers thinking they would go on to become psychologists get btfo'd.
>Psy.D
Usually 3 years, once the masters is complete you still need a doctorate before you can even consider going into therapy. People who stop at masters go on to research role or fuck off to other jobs (more successfully than Bsc), this is where the true dedicated ones stay, the ones that actually want to do psych.

T. 3rd year psychologist with a year's experience working in clinical field. I sincerely regret my choice but no point stopping now, I'm either gonna convert to a forensic science Msc or carry on with the psych route and go into forensic psychology because I hate myself :^)

Almoust everything in american universities simply because it has become a business, and peer pressure makes people take even shitty courses which lets the universities make money instead of force them to change their shitty courses / practices because students are not signing up.
