You are browsing your new PowerBook G4 and enjoying a breakfast on the 107th floor of the World Trade Center, North Tower, at the Windows on the World restaurant. You look up from your meal, out the window and notice a long-range, wide-body twin-engine jet airliner coming towards the tower at a very fast 500 miles per hour, aimed to hit floors 93-99. Before you can even fully process what you're seeing, the tower is hit and your drink rumbles off of the table.

What do you do?
>>
>>38417582
>What do you do?

Get the fuck out of there. Number of people managed to get down from the top floors in time to avoid death desu

It's over at that point, I'm a dead man
>>
lie on the floor and accept my fate
>>
>>38417582
well the north tower was hit first and if i could see the plane its already to late so i guess stay where i am to avoid dying from the impact and after run towards the roof door which would be locked maybe there is something in the kitchen i could use to break it open , if i did get it open i would hope for helicopter

all of the elevators and stairs were severed on the first tower. nobody at the impact zone or above made it. they literally all died, like 1,400 people

only FOUR people made it out of the second tower above the impact zone, and that's only because one of the staircases happened to be in tact and they JUST happened to have checked and JUST happened to keep going down when everyone else was going up to try and help people on the top floors.

You were unbelievably lucky if you were in either towers at or above the impacted floors and survived.

apparently bin laden just wanted the planes to hit and destroy the floors they hit and above. he didn't expect the towers to fall at all.

TL;DR you were 100% fucked in this scenario OP is placing you in. >>38417793 would have been your only 1 in 1,000,000 chance and even then, no helicopters would go that close
>>
>>38417820
i think if i could break the lock and reach the roof and they saw a bunch of us its possible they could have attempted a rescue

Teleport out of the building.
>>
>>38417820
Yeah, the government did the rest of the work for them to get a CB to "liberate" Iraq's oil.
>>
maybe there are ways you could protect yourself against the impact of being inside the crumbling tower without running down the stairs. get inside a fridge/safe or something.

Step 1: Find a table or some debris or something large enough for you to ride on

Step 2: Jump out of the tower while riding the object you grabbed

Step 3: Continue to ride the object as you are falling from the tower

Step 3: This is the hardest part and your timing is critical: moments before impact with the ground, jump off of the object you have been riding

If you timed it right, you will land safely just as if you had jumped from a position only a few feet from the ground! Science rules!

>107th floor of the World Trade Center

How high up is that?

My arm chair response as a skydiver would be to attempt to jump and track towards the water and attempt to enter the water on my back near the boat.

But the reality is that if a plane hit I would wait and see if the structure of the building would hold to attempt exiting through the building.
>>
>>38418458
>How high up is that?
107 stories.

Your spine would turn to dust on the water and you'd skip like a rock.
>>
>>38418458
i'm pretty sure that floor was like 1,300 feet high.
>>

>>
>>38418660
Approximately 107 floors
>>
>>38418627
>1,300 feet high

Yeah, no. I wouldn't even make the water lol.

They should have base rigs for everyone working in high rise towers, some might survive.
>>
>>38418458
>How high up is that?
a quarter of a mile. you were fucked from the beginning.
>>
>>38417582
If I had an office job that high up in a building i'd at least learn how to base jump once or twice and i'd have an emergency pack under my desk.
>>
it's pretty fucked to think that not a single person there had a parachute. there is no way they would not have survived, and that would have been fucking bad ass being that guy that jumped off the tower at like the 107th floor after it got hit by a fucking jet plane and parachuted down 1,300 feet. That would be such a fucking ridiculous experience, you'd probably think it was a dream.

i wonder if tall buildings have parachutes on the high floors now because of this.

I have an intense fear of heights. If my job required me to work in a big skyscraper, I would likely have made enough money to afford a small parachute for those once-in-a-lifetime kind of emergencies.

Being someone in a high-stress job and good health care I would likely be one of millions of Americans overprescribed narcotics, valium in this case, for stress and anxiety. I would immediately take a small handful, and wait for my coworkers to inevitably try to descend the staircase. Being anxious in a high-stress situation has amplified my senses and I am now acutely aware of minor details, like which direction the smoke is billowing from the now-burning tower.

Then, I would throw my chair through the window of the building in the direction the wind is blowing, and quickly equip my parachute while nobody is looking. Once my pills have kicked in, and the floor starts to rumble, I jump and pull the cord about a second later. The wind at that altitude would carry me away from the burning tower. Hopefully, in the direction of the water, but even if I land on the roof of another building, it will be a success.

For the next few months I will be in intensive therapy fully funded by my employer in order to get more valium (to get high and mooch, not for actual anxiety now), as well as receiving a massive settlement from a lawsuit stemming from this incident. With the assistance of my pills, I will make the rounds on every morning talk show, reliving the "horror" of my trauma.

Eventually, when the benefits have run out, I'll have a book published. I'll then sell the rights of the book to a movie studio, who cut me a small royalty for their feature film "Survivor: Falling from the World Trade Center" and continue doing talk shows and interviews.

>>
>>38417582
I'd break the window with a chair and use my parachute. no other way out really.
>>
>>38419096
This is very good.
I feel like this could also happen to me.
And I will just know that when the shock in the mind of my collegues settled, they would remember the time I told my secretary to purchase two parachutes for in my office. We all laught and joked about it, because I admit that at the time, I found it hillariously unlikely I ever would ever use it. But now that the building is in flames, they realised what a mistake they made. We always made sure that each of us understood that we had to fight for ourselves. No freebies. No hand outs. So they perfectly well understood that when everything seemed hopeless, I was long gone. "No hard feelings, alright?"
>>

I feel bad for my friend's dad, he worked near the World Trade Center and had to run for his life. He couldn't take the trains or subways home to Long Island so he had to walk.

He walked for 9 hours. There were no cell phones so they didn't know what happened. He has permanent lung damage from the debris and gets vertigo easily. He can't even sit in movie theatres that have stadium seating.
>>
>>38420399
why didn't he just get a cab
>>
>>38417856
That's what people tried to do, but the helos didn't pick them up because the smoke was too heavy. Hundreds of people died on the rooftops trying to signal the rescue that you so "ingeniously" came up with
>>
>>38418222
Dude only slipped because he was reaching for something in his pocket
>>
>>38420399
I hear a lot of stories about 9/11 survivors and those who helped clean up the debris at ground zero developing serious lung cancer. It's ironic because the mayor said it was totally harmless to inhale all those debris fumes. How retarded is that

>>38417582
Now if I ever work or live in a building like that I would probably keep a parachute with me, although I also want to try base jumping because it looks fun. Its not really a great solution considering that base jumping is far and away more likely to get you killed than something like 9/11 or the London fire.
>>
all of these idiots ITT saying they'd keep a parachute don't even consider the fact that nobody thought something like this would happen. nobody in a million years would have thought someone was going to fly an airbus into the fucking tower and make it un-evacuate-able. a parachute? come on.
