From memory the origin of the expression is a shakespere line that goes something like

"when the world is my oyster, I'll open it with a sword"

In other words he is saying "I shall use force, violence and conquest to get what I want." (the Perl inside the oyster)

These days however semantic drift has caused the expression to essentially mean "you can get whatever you want" or "you have the oyster already now simply open it and take out the pearl)
