Last time I went to get my hair cut I got a little drunk before going, I found it helpful.

I understand your struggle OP. For me another problem is that I just don't know what to tell the hairdresserbarberperson.

I need a different haircut but I just don't know how I will accomplish such a thing. What do I say to the person who cuts my hair? I don't know how to speak hair language. Bringing a photograph of someone and saying i want their haircut seems extremely awkward to me.

For years my tactic has been to just slightly alter my haircut a tiny little bit everytime I go for a haircut by saying i want it a bit shorter here, or a bit longer there. That in it self is incredibly hard for me to achieve and ultimately it has accomplished nothing.

What I do is I ask my barber what would look best and they kind of fiddle around and try to figure out what I want (short on the sides and longer on top is it), then after they're done cutting my hair I ask them to walk me through what they did and if they have a business card.

I write down the date on the back of the card and what they said they did after I leave the shop, this way if I decide it looks good I know what to ask for again and if it looks bad I know what to tell them not to do. I know it's borderline autistic but it's helped me a LOT.
