Why not? Emerald are cheap as fuck nowadays since nobody needs rings of duelling anymore (everyone has that thing with unlimited teleports in their house). It's a pretty good idea.

Once upon a time, my middle school self would write scripts to bot pretty much everything I had done in the game. I had shared auto-miners, and I would sell an auto-fighter on sythe.org. I would eventually have the second most popular (paid) auto-fighter, and the only one of two to handle those stupid mystery boxes (before someone shared a library that dealt with them). Soon after, Mutant Squirrel would ask me to join his project to create a massive botting library. I would accept and join his forum.

SCAR was my first programming language almost 14 years ago, and I had learned it just to bot Runescape. I didn't realize it at the time, but this gave me a huge advantage studying comp sci in college, especially computer security. That led to my research studying malware and general software instrumentation, which ultimately made my life a lot more fulfilling than I had any right to expect.

A lot of the things that made me interesting to my professors and colleagues were the result of me botting this game. I owe quite a bit to it.
