As a person who's lived in the caribbean where I never saw a depressed person I agree there is far more causal/situational depression in developed countries I perceive it to be the treadmill people get on pretty much as soon as they start school. All the hoop jumping and box jumping to make sure you fulfill the target to go onto another exercise in bureaucracy, get in a load of debt, buy a house and find a job you likely won't enjoy and spend the rest of your life paying your debts off while battling petty state interference now and again.
