Yeah, I did a little speedrunning back when I was a teenager and I just assumed people liked to speedrun as a result of boredom. Now that I've seen the amount of effort it takes when people try doing it professionally, it just makes me feel pity. Have you tried encouraging him to work out. You could try going to the gym with him if you aren't in the best shape to avoid hypocrisy.
