The thing is, 07/08 was the height of the 'lulz' phase, people starting posting those shit cartoons (around blacks never relax) etc in you laugh you lose threads, and they became really popular and reposted a lot because it was shock humour and still relatively fresh.

The thing is, people started to lose the 'its just a joke' point relatively soon after. The same meme-spouting autistic faggots who walked around in guy fawkes masks in real life started to believe it, I think. I also remember there were a few threads on stormfront that were dedicated to creating a right wing discourse on 4chan to encourage the trend but I dont know how much influence it had.

It used to be confined to /new/ but it got deleted because things had gone too far, eventually moot realised he fucked up and needed a containment board but the damage was done. Since then you have /pol/ wastes of space in every thread thinking they're the vanguard of a white revolution for posting racial slurs in every thread.

Because that's their company portraying that and their administration have clear biases.

I looked into this a few years ago when there was thus scandal. Mods on subreddits on that site are kept in strict hierarchy and are struggling for GBP basically.
Back then it was about gawker and censoring mainly.

If I were to answer its probably that the US has two very weird political parties. The dems are clearly right wing they're not the most right wing but only a madman would place them on the left without an asterisk saying its only covering the political range of the US. The reps are just corporate puppets really. It's difficult to argue just where they sit because it's largely dependant on other actors.

So when that's your perspective. And you throw just random slightly above average IQ world citizens out there you might see it as leaning left because the viewfinder is off. It's also very easy to change their minds. They don't have solidly founded opinions (like most). So when you put an up vote system on that you're gonna push people towards the cluster. Which is on the left.

Reddit is liberal at an institutional level. The owners of the site make sure that all conservative voices are drowned out, or not allowed to be pushed to the top. Otherwise, conservative subreddits do exist, it's just that if anyone tries to post on the "neutral" or "standard" subreddits with an opinion that even agrees with one thing that a conservative states, the mods censor and ban you.
