For me, it's for myself. So i can play and maybe even write some music i love

i've been seeing a weird rise in these kinds of threads the last month or so.
i'm learning so i can make some music and play my favorite songs.
started around december, was on/off until april
and i've been practicing almost every day since for atleast 30 min.
kinda wish i had started learning the piano first, cause i don't want to make regular rock music, but what are you gonna do.
>>
I learned how to play open chords and barre chords and 1 scale then stopped. Occasionally I'll pick it up again and dick around but I've never gotten serious with it again. Such is life.

>>
i got my first guitar 50 weeks ago but i've played on and off because i live with my parents and i can't play when they're home because anxiety and when they're at work i play video games because so they wouldn't judge me for playing video games

in some ways i'm quite advanced but in others i'm a complete novice like i can't play wonderwall and hurt because they have complicated picking because you don't pick full chords so i never even really tried learning and i mostly learned chords on the go when they sometimes appear between power chords in more fun songs but i have decent rhythm and muting and speed because i like faster music

if i had to have started with chords and acoustic guitar i wouldn't have stuck with guitar for this long

also post robot music, i was just learning this earlier today

>>
>>38146091
What do you find hard about learning guitar? I can't play piano but I think it would be harder to learn than guitar.
>>
>>38146137
differentfag

it depends on what's difficult for you
piano is simple in that you basically push a key and it makes a sound but in guitar you have to mute the other strings to make a clean sound and there's bending and tremolo and picking BUT in piano you have to make chords with both hands and play at different rhythms kind of like you would with drums

i lack the limb independence to even think about learning drums and piano, which is sad because i'd rather learn drums than guitar but i guess guitar is fun enough

Anyone who has trouble playing guitar, when you really want to learn, should try bass. It is a lot simpler than guitar, but the more advanced parts are arguably harder. There is a lot of freedom in the sounds you can make.

I fucking love bass, got it run through my PC so I don't need and amp, and got Rocksmith so that I can play with a band that doesn't have other people in it.
>>
>>38146183

There are plenty of songs that are just a couple of chords and are kinda fun, the songs that are your favourite won't be that easy, but there are some old songs you can play for the fun of playing.
>>
>>38149108

Real talk, I like it. Keep refining it and try and record it on a better mic if you get a chance. You have a youtube/soundcloud/etc.?
>>
>>38149102
I never learned the basics. I just looked up "beginer songs" on YouTube. You learn basic chord shapes while also being able to play the songs you want to play.

I learned different scales and really awkward chord shapes later when advancing into harder songs.
>>
>>38149154
Thank you anon

>>38149158
Thank you, and I have a fairly decent mic, it's a blue snowball. The reason it's shitty is because vocaroo pics up a tone unwanted sounds which I can easily remove on audacity or something like that. And yes I have a youtube, but I haven't posted any music on there, only shit posts on it.

bass and drums are the best ways to get into a band for less hardcore musicians. the thing about bass is that you're almost always playing a single line so you don't have to worry about chords or harmony.
>>
>>38150131
I think that bass is particularly good for getting into bands because usually they are just guitarists that had to play bass because another guitarist is better than them.

Basslines in a lot of popular songs are incredibly simple, which allows you to get into it and still have fun.
I don't want to make it sound like a retard instrument, bass can make a band great. Take Mike Dirnt in pre 2000s Green Day, made that band great. Mark Stoermer from The Killers made their first 2 ambums some of my favourites. There are many more bassists in other genres like jazz which are so sick.

If you want to hear some fantastic modern bass, Joe Dart in Vulfpeck is your man

it takes a long time to become exposed to enough theory and retain some of that to understand jazz beyond playing the basic voicings. this channel has been godlike in helping me wrap together some concepts not just limited to jazz theory but other compositional techniques. learn the order that interests you slowly, and methodically. it's not an easy hike, the people you know have been dedicating most of their life to this.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5SmcH11kUk

Even in something as low level as this that I knew most of the chords in, I learned a lot like a with a real teacher. There's a nice bit about basic walking basslines around 20 minutes.

just keep learning simple songs you like with tabs and videos. keep your guitar close to your computer so you can always grab it and play whenever.
don't worry too much about practicing or learning music theory, that comes later.

also that shit's not bad.
>>
>>38153373
get an actual instrument if you can. a shitty instrument is only holding you back until you can get one that actually sounds fine. your neck is probably really warped and hard to intonate to get proper notes. electric guitar and amplification is a different instrument than acoustic. listened to some of that, none of it is too hard. biggest skill you can have is audiating what you hear in your head and singing it while making that sound come out of your guitar. i wish i would have worked on that sooner.

Depends on how you use the amp. The dynamics are there without it, you just need the amp for it to be loud enough for you to hear them.

If you crank the gain, your amp will likely also compress your sound and kill the dynamics.

if you lose interest in playing the guitar that's fine, but i think that most people tend to play guitar casually and then over the years they gradually start to get good. that's what happened to me atleast. i didn't really start to take it seriously until after about 2 years.

>>38153655
not sure what you mean by not learning anything. have you learned to play some simple, beginner songs or riffs? or do you meant you want to get more musical?

Sounds pleasant but I think virtuoso is bit of a stretch.
>>
>>38154936
virtuosity came later but I was too stupid to keep making recordings anon

the trick is to do fingerstyle you can make a full song by goin over chords (with some variations) if you use all fingers and hit the strings concious of angles and do mathy kinda patterns u can have percussion + bass + chords + melody

im a beginner. i like to play classical because its mostly fingerstyle, strumming feels weird for me. i bought pic related yesterday because it was pretty cheap.

Is the floyd a pain in the ass or is it alright?
>>
>>38155021
well i made recordings but on a phone that got stolen :(

>>38155168
nice how much was it? have you considered getin a guitar to usb plug and getting free infinite 'pedals' aka effects
>>
>>38155259
There's something about having a physical pedal to fiddle with that seems really valuable to me. I've got tons of VSTs for effects that I never use. Maybe I've got too many options.

Speaking of VSTs, does anyone know one that can emulate a Q-Tron or something similar?
>>
>>38155363
true pedals also have no latency its too expensive tho imo
>>
>>38155257
i've only played it for a tiny bit because i got home late and i didnt use the tremolo so i cant really say. feels a bit weird having it there when coming from a classical.

>>38155259
$280 AUD brand new, ESP MH-53. i already have an audio interface. i'm going to focus on trying to get better first before worrying about effects.

Ask Tony Iommi for advice
>>
>>38155764
Iommi lost his at the first joint (from the fingertip).
>>
>>38145249
How long ago was it? How has it changed your life? So sorry anon. But sometimes these things can be blessings in disguise which is why I ask how it's changed your life

Literally jumping in front of a train/truck/etc, overdose, slit wrists
I'm sure he's learned to live without fingers he'd figure it out
>>
>>38145249

You're very welcome my friend. Use it well!
>>

Dude, you still have your thumb so you probably can hold a pick and strum with that hand. I'm left handed but I play the guitar right handedly, you could buy a left handed guitar.
>>

>tommy iommi from sabbath lost a few fingers and still learned to play

It's Tony, you numale cunt. And he lost the very tips of a couple of fingers and could already play proficiently when the accident happened.

Don't post if you can't even get entry level stories right.

I have played guitar for 15 years. I just ordered a new one pretty excited

For those interested I got the Charvel Pro Mod So Cal style, pic related. I'm a lefty and Canadian so I basically has 2 options with the bridge I wanted and decent pickups for my 1200-1300 price range.

Other one was a Jackson Dinky but it has the same pickups as one of my guitars so I figured I'd add variety.

Nice. I picked up a Kramer Pacer classic recently that's really similar, though obviously not on par with a Charvel.
