I'm from a small Swedish town close to the Norwegian border with a rich history, 500+ years as a city (traceable history as a trading post/village back to the 11th century but the area has been settled since the bronze age).

Swedish, Danish and Norwegian soldiers took turns to pillage and burn it, raping the locals for centuries upon centuries. The Swedish army has demolished it entirely five times. The town had the moniker "Raven's hole" for hundreds of years as it was known to be a sinful cesspool for sailors, whores, pirates, tricksters and thieves.

It's still a violent, drugfueled shithole by national standards... but it IS beautiful here in the summer.
