Pretty much. I live in Poland and we don't squat in here anymore but i remember that 20 years ago it was a thing. Communism destroyed our country and there was literally nothing to do. Can some people really not squat? I thought that was just a /fit/ meme. It's a natural position, it doesn't require any special flexibility or training. The only thing I can think of that might cause trouble is some kind of deformity like >>37910067 describes.

Real answer:back in the 20s-30s, it was a common practice in Soviet prisons to force prisoners to walk while squatting (don't know how this walk is called in English, but it looks like pic related). Then, squatting became associated with being a former prisoner, which in turn signals that you're a tough guy.
