28. My goal is to retire by 35. Shit happens though so I won't be crushed if I miss it. 40 is probably more realistic since I'm kind of spoiled and want a certain level of comfort. I had a pretty late start to my career so that fucked things up a lot for me.

I need $500k at the minimum but that would mean being careful with budgeting. $1m will allow me to live without concern for budget, so long as the market doesn't assrape my dreams too hard. Most likely I will hit the $500k and switch to weekender position and just live off that while allowing nest egg to grow. I can continue in my position and see ~$70k, or go to school for 3 years and start at ~$90k that quickly climbs to $160k. Considering my retirement need is low it seems like my pride is creating a trap. What good is prestige when you are retired? Having pride in your title is silly, but I still want it all the same. Either way it means money. The question is how much of my life is worth throwing away for a day that may never come? I could die in a wreck tomorrow or I could see 100 years. the uncertainty makes me anxious because there is no perfect answer.

I'm eventually going for a higher position. Manager, director, advanced practice, anything but a floor nurse. I've gone entire shifts without taking a single piss. I miss lunch more often than not. The doctors are sometimes an asshole when you politely remind them to not kill the patient. When they realize you saved their ass by preventing a mistake from being carried out you rarely get a thank you. I understand 18 hour shifts suck and they don't want to be awakened during the 5 hours of sleep, but at least say thanks. Even if you don't care about the patient both our licenses are at risk here.

I'm a partner but i do almost nothing now other than add my money to the firm for funding purposes and some occasionally required meetings.

All partners put a certain percentage as determined for that quarter into a fund for venture funding, used to be quite variable but we're established and stable now, and your cut from whatever contracts were made during that quarter is determined by this.
Want to pull back and start investing elsewhere? Tell your partners you're pulling back your usual amount for this coming quarter by 15% at the meeting. Want to try and up your profit? Tell them you're thinking of increasing your share by 15%. Obviously both need to be talked over and reviewed because both could end up screwing over others.
