I trim my music folder religiously, removing individual songs I don't want. I rarely get a new album in, probably one every six months, and all the actual organizing is done automatically by Winamp's media library.

When I hear an album/song I might like, I put it in a "maybe" folder and listen to it every once per week or so, it'll often spend a good three months in the maybe folder until I've decided to admit it to the music folder. People with millions of songs in their music folders baffle me, there's no way you listen to every song regularly.

My whole folder is 12 days of continuous play, so even with such a "small" folder of 3400 songs total, it's not like I hear the same songs every day like the fucking radio. That shit triggers me more than /k/ and clips.

I actually respect your method, knowing what it is. I started doing the same but mostly out of necessity because my 160GB ipod broke and my toaster laptop is running out of space.

Whatever I truely didn't listened to anymore I moved from my computer to an external hard drive. Then since my ipod was kill I had to settle on about 8 free gigs of memory on my phone. A far cry from the 160GB I once had. I placed only the most favorite and the very newest albums I had. Then I started cutting individual songs from albums, or uploading just one or two songs from an album onto my phone, I'd also take one album out and place a new one in, etc.

Less is more when it comes to music. When I had 160GB of music I would be bored and skipping 9/10 songs but now I don't skip a single one.

I would still make subfolder for each genre, even if it's just for two or three albums, because I have OCD

The artist folders have album subfolders, that's more than enough sorting since tags are easy to edit and Winamp ML is the single most perfect beast to have every graced this earth when it comes to browsing, organizing, sorting, playlist creation/playlist shuffling, dealing with tags of different kinds, dealing with foreign characters (rarely do I see any other media player handle japonski moon squiggles) and whatever else you would ever want to in a music doing thing program. You can even take SPC format files from a SNES emulator and have Winamp output them to mp3 perfectly, or just play them as SPCs natively.
