Also there are plenty of franchises that change drastically between iterations, and completely new franchises from Nintendo. Xenoblade changes completely between versions, and while I still hate X, it was experimental and tried new things. Arms is a new game from them, as was Splatoon a few years ago.

I think this is next level fuckery though. Releasing the same game twice every generation was already a scumbag move by Pokemon. But doing that TWICE in one generation is ridiculous. Pretty obvious that this was the original game and SU/MO was the stripped down version they released or else they would have just released the Ultras in the first place
