Actually that's wrong, aging is a very complex process. Think about, we were genetically encoded to die at some point. An immortal organism is not very fit, because it would directly compete with its offspring, and then eventually you end up with the Highlander

No. There is always an actual specific cause of death, even for the elderly. Top of the list is heart disease and cancer. A ways back from those two are lower respiratory disease and stroke. Now of course with the elderly there is often a combination of things in play but that doesn't mean there wasn't one specific thing that caused them to kick the bucket at that particular moment in time.
