You are me pretty much I was 250. Changed eating habits and became a bit more active without knowing/trying and lost 40 pounds over the span of a year.

Like I said I unknowingly lost 40 pounds. If you actually put in the effort unlike I did, change eating habits, work out (even an hour of just walking on the treadmill a day will do good) you will probably lose more than I did in a year.

If you haven't exercised in anyway in quite a while I would just start out with lengthily walks and ease into running.
Also I can't really recommend any diets because I haven't tried any. By changing eating habits all I really meant was that I cut out sugary drinks (soda/juice/tea) and only drank water, milk every now and then. Also dropped fast food entirely, and stopped eating sugary/salty snacks.

2. Subtract 100-300 cals and eat that every day
3. Run 30 min a day
4. Find a beginners lifting program
5. Don't listen to /fit/ until you know what you are doing
