(non-redditors) how did you first discover 4chan?
Originally from a shock site (moid.org in particular if anyone remembers it) back around 05/06 It had a forum and I remember someone linking to the site in one of the threads. Been here since.
I'm think it was some magazine article about porn on youtube. I spend months just lurking and was super anxious when I made my first posts and took ages before I dared to start my first thread.
My friend told me about it, he used this site for furry porn. I was a Tumblr user (I wasn't an SJW) and used this site more frequently after the raid
I just decided to come here out of random interest, never stopped browsing since 2008.
friend of mine introduced me to /b/ when I was in middleschool. I didn't get the appeal at the time eventhough I was near the top of the potential school shooters list of the school. A few years later I came back and started browsing other, more interesting, boards. I'm 22 now
>>37170627
One of my friends mentioned it a few years ago, wish he never had desu
been here since i started high school last year, it's been a long time but i like the fellow sirs here and we have chuckles and such
I came here because of the fappening in 2014 lmao xD
>>37170772
This is pretty much me here except im 23.
Somebody on omegle told me he is from 4chan and called me a faggot once I mentioned I am from 9gag so I came here to check it out. That must have happened around 2009.

Intradesting
>>37170627
Pretty sure some guy in high school told me about it. Either that or I found it from whatever meme aggregator was popular at the time.
I interested where did a word "normies" originated from. That's how I found 4chan and released I was robot/cyborg without knowing it.
2010 funnyjunk 4chan posts, been lurking since
>>37171031
From normalfag
>>37171031
I don't know the specifics, but /a/ and /b/ have been calling people normalfags since at least 2007 when I started browsing.
"Gaiafag" was still the main insult.
>>37170627
I googled a meme I didn't understand like 5 years ago and severely regret it
I was looking for a particular type of pornography
Soon after it was created, it was a huge buzz on irc channels and such. Didn't bother checking it out until a year after hearing about it.
I now mostly stick to slower, comfier non-normie boards (/r9k/ is ironically the most normie board right after /soc/ and /b/), but still like randomly clicking on boards to see what the HECK is going on around here.
>>37170627
When I was 13 in 2007, a friend told me about it, went on /b/ few times, got scared because I don't want to get doxxed. So I only browse 4chan through screencaps on KYM until around 2014 when my life start going downhill. Now I can't get out.
it was 2010 or 2009 idk. i was 17 my friend told me about these scary hackers anonymoose. i looked em up. i found they came form here. been here ever since. im 24 now.

Man, I haven't heard gaiafag in ages. Some boards still use it I'm sure as there are places here that still use greentexting as it was mean to. To quote someone and when someone uses greentext to tell stories and such they get the "who are you quoting?" treatment.
used to go to somethingawful forums. I transitioned to /b/ and never left. Can't even visit other forums because they are too tame and restricting
>>37170627
About when I was 12 my friend used to tell me all the latest new memes and would link me to /b/ a lot.
I always had to close it down instantly because my pc was in the living room.
Once I got my first laptop it all began.
heard about how it created all internet memes ever on 9gag. went here to try to make a new meme, stayed cause it was cool
>>37170627
I joined in early 2012 I believe, Jesus Chatline brought me here
I remembered hearing about it somewhere and decided to look it up back in 9th grade and i liked it better than the time my friends showed me reddit
(Im 18 now dont ban me mods)
>>37170627
Friend showed it to me when I was a sophmore in high school. That was about 10 years ago. I didn't start frequenting he until a couple of years later so I guess I'm technically still cancer
Honestly forgot. Was early high school, thought it was cool, then left. Came back now that all other places on the internet have been overrun from the normie invasion.

Used to regular on the Flood on Bungie.net, 4chan links occasionally got posted there.
Only properly moved over once Bungie announced they weren't making any more halo games and the forums died.
Around 2008-2009 I was on Phish message board and we had a 4chan thread full of all the most absurd and disgusting maymays. I eventually just decided to come here since I spent all my time in that thread
>>37171091
Yeah, me too. Which is probably bad since I'm only 18 now.
>>37170814
I was about to call you a lying faggot because 9gag couldn't possibly have been around for 8 years but holy shit.
I actually don't remember. I think just browsing random sites and found a /b/ screenshot. Was probably 12-13 so like 06-07?
>tfw it's been a fucking decade
>>37171396
I am not lying. At the time 4chan was actually raiding the new section of 9gag with all kinds of pictures. Its how I first heard of it.
>>37170627
Around 2004 my IRC friends kept posting some anime pictures from here, visited few times and these days I'm the only one still browsing this hellhole. I really dislike the modern social network stuff where you have to use your name and pictures, or you get good boy points if you post stuff that other people like (lebbit), anonymity makes people more likely to give their honest opinion. that's why I still like this place
>>37171433
I just feel so fucking old. I remember raiding 9gag and thought for sure that was at the most 3 years ago.
>>37171433
>People said that raiding 9gag would make them come here and stay
>We ignored them
Fucking hell, I've wasted so much of my life here, but still managed to impact people in some way. This is a weird feel
found it for sure in 2006 through early runescape
i think i found it after finding SA after they raided cokemusic in 2004, but left
I was at the mall in a knife/blade shop when the guy at the counter called me over to look at something on his laptop.
This was around the end of 2004 i think. I wonder if he still comes here.
>>37171468

This can't be. My oldest picture of my second collection folder is from /x/ 2012. I wish I had my folder from before that.
>>37171470
I was actually a ethical newfag and lurked 1-2 years before submitting my first post.
I swear I remember 4chan having only 2 boards, but it wasn't until 2005 or 2006 that I started actually browsing, mainly /b/ at the time. A guildmate in an MMO I had been playing back then mentioned 4chan and I checked it again and it was very fast paced and striving, been hooked ever since. Yes, I'm old.
I don't remember very well, but it was like 2013. I remember hearing the term 4chan but I didn't know what it was so I Googled it and I found it. started using /vg/ at first, quickly moved onto/b/. found r9k and told my friend it was "better" /b/.
I started browsing around the wtsnacks era when I heard some faggots on a tf2 server talking about /b/
I was introduced to the whole Internet subculture in general through ED in 2008. 4chan was always mentioned there but I never really got around regularly browsing until 2012.

I heard about 4chan in 2008 from memeing losers that were in a video game club back in my first year of college. They were talking about how great /b/ is. I googled "b," literally just the letter and nothing came up. Felt like an idiot. Eventually found /b/ and immediately left that shithole for /v/.
Finding out about 4chan solidified my virginity and my descent into robothood. Probably most affected my life because I used to have friends and could have probably gotten a gf but those things are impossible now.

While ago when Anonymous was a lot in the news. They would say, hacker group bla bla origanted from 4chan. At first thought it was some deep web site. A quick google search told me otherwise.
I think it was some funnyjunk screencap. I dont remember what year because my entire life is just a blur and all my childhood blends together. the earliest thing I can remember witnessing on 4chin was the robot unicorn theme playing.
I was way to young to be on this site, but I remember finding fetish porn so I stayed :^)
This is where I came from.
>>37171772

/v/ was and still is better than /b/.
I had a friend in middle school tell me about it. Got addicted to /b/ for a long time, then I stopped coming for awhile. Got back in at the start of election season and now I visit a wider range of boards.

This BBS I used to frequent would occasionally refer to it, calling it the "asshole of the internet"
around 2008 I came here out of curiosity and I haven't been able to leave ever since.

Boy that lurk rule is stupid.
reddit is shit. Run by a gang of leftists and SJWs. No thanks.
Heard about it as the typical "scariest place on the internet" shit in 07, tried to use it as a personal army back then.
Didn't come back until /vp/ was created, a friend let me know a Pokemon board was made. A couple weeks later my video card crapped out and I had nothing better to do since I just had an old ass desktop.
Been here since then.

Now I've grown out of pokemon but I'm still here because I liked some of the other boards. . I guess that for all practical purposes I'm a turbo newfag

In 2009 (after channology) some newfag broke rules 1 and 2 but 4chan.
Then in 2012 (when SOPA was a thing) the same newfag broke rules 1 and 2 on the same forum again.
Yea, well that's when I began going on /b/ + I've read all 4chan screencaps and all articles on ED.
Then I went to other boards like /pol/ /a/ and /g/.
Exploring this site was fun.
I honestly don't remember where I first heard of it. I started using it in college around 2010, left in 2011, and came back again this year because I have no life.
Friend of mine introduced me to Encyclopedia Dramatica in 2009. I lurked on and off but didn't become a regular poster until 2013, been here every day since then though.

I still consider myself a newfag honestly

fast-forward now I pretty much only go to /r9k/, /v/, and /pol/. sometime along the way I dropped /a/ because anime seasons were getting boring as fuck and /x/ is pretty bad now. I still check /vr/ once in a while and since /pol/ has flags now I don't really feel like going to /int/,

also another thing to note when I was on /int/ I found 4+4chan, this was before GG so there was only like one active board which was an /int/ clone and only had like 10 posts a day or some shit. it's weird knowing how big it is now. and also I browse the /v/ board on there too

i spent my downtime in high school reading news articles on their computer
Found an article about anonymous sometime in late 2011, found the site. Started on /b/ like everyone else, but migrated to /a/ and /jp/ since i already had a bit of interest in animu
I was looking for cute anime pictures. /c/ was the only board I went to for like six months because the rest of the site seemed too scary. I ended up going on /a/ and then eventually the rest of the site. This was back in the good old days when people would lurk for a year or more before posting.
A lot of /b/ memes made there way to gamefaqs like 10 years ago. And here I am
Well, in 2007 I was looking for exotic porn and found gurochan. Someone mentioned 4chan there, so I checked it out.
>>37170627
In 2008 I gave in to curiosity on the
>DON'T GO TO /B/
Meme. I didn't really browse until a few years later since I didn't "get it" when I was younger, the whole image board concept.
Older sister told me about it when I was11and I started lurking /b/. A lot of my earliest faps were to shit like Firecracker and Mega Milk.
I've been browsing ever since, though mainly /v/, /co/, /g/, /sp/, and a sprinkling of /r9k/ and /pol/.I'm 20 now.

Normie on 4chan is a relatively new thing (2013+), though the use of the word is old as fuck, even the original Fallout used it (though I doubt it originated from there).
>>37170627
OP, WHERE DID YOU DISCOVER THAT PIC?
I came in 2006 to watch a show called Code Geass. I stayed in 2007 to watch a show called Gurren Lagann. I made it my own during Geass R2 2008. That's when I knew for sure I could never leave here.
One of the rare anons who came in from /a/ first, not /b/ back then.
mfw its been nearly 10 years
I was playing runescape in 2009 and some idiot tried greentexting in runescape. Everyone gave him a ton of shit for it and told him to keep it to 4chan. Hearing 4chan I went looking and found it. Here I am, all these years later.
I knew about the site's existence already. I decided to start visiting it after I opened up 9gag like 6 years ago and saw people complaining at 4chan. 'They are so sick, disgusting and twisted!' because 4chan raided 9gag with gore and dead babies. I wanted to check the pictures out, so I went to gore threads on /b/. Build a collection of gore/rekt pictures and videos first year on this website and showed it to my brother who made me delete it.
I stil remember my first post: 'HAHAHA look at his head'. I also found the OP is a faggot meme very funny at the time and spammed it in a lot of threads with the same picture of a guy saying study finds that OP loves sucking cock.
r9k got really popular last months. I prefer not visiting this board anymore. I only visit /tg/ board now and talk about warhammer.
>>37171772

From the now defunct halflife2.net. A thread came up and I remember one user saying that "/b/ was dead" back in 2005. I never started using in until a few years later where it was 90% of the time just for porn.
Ended up on /s/ a few times when i was searching for porn on Google. I had no idea how the site worked but i guess i eventually got curious about what all the other letters on the bottom of the page were, and realized there was more to it. I came to /b/ around 2010 because a weird kid I was roomed with lurked here. Then I lurked /pol/ (remember when you could pick your flag),/a/, /m/ & /r9k/ (the first one). I don't really browse /b/ anymore because it's just a porn dump, while losing absurdity and bizarreness. The threads on /b/ used to be entertaining and lacking any sort of morality.
