They're obviously saying that so brown-eyed people don't feel as bad for having the most banal eye colour (I say that as someone with borderline black eyes). Also looking at the majority of Africans and Asians they all have dark-brown eyes so its not exactly rare.

Blue/ green/ hazel etc. are all largely superior as they express a degree of colour not found anywhere else on the human body let alone in a large degree of the environment (that includes the numerous animals we see in day-to-day life), this in itself differentiates us from many other species and the fact that such genetic variation is being gradually worn away is considerably saddening. That being said when the age of genetic modification and designer children comes into play this issue should be one of the past, and hopefully settle racial tensions once and for all.
