Why is it when somebody describes finding this guy unfunny, they tend to be nationalists?

They sometimes like other comedians such as Stewart and Classic Colbert. But it's just this particularly guy they describe as not laughing at. Even if their general attitude towards are nonchalant at worst.

/pol/ loves to obsess over the most meme worthy elements of the left like it discredits all of leftism and validates their world view. John Oliver is a mildly successful left of center comedian. Normies wouldn't care that much if he disappeared tomorrow. But /pol/ sees the [current year] meme and uses it for two years now to attack everyone on the left, not just John Oliver. Same with the two scoops shit. Most people saw that as a minor story about Trump's enormous insecurity that they forgot about in 15 minutes. /pol/ got assblasted that anyone dare imply the god emporer is insecure, and convinced themselves that Colbert & co are obsessed with the two scoops story because having two scoops of ice cream is ridiculous in any context.

Because there are degrees of being funny and degrees of being a liberal sycophant. Stewart is very liberal, but also very funny. Yes he scores easy points by shitting on conservatives, but he is also just genuinely a good comedian.

John Oliver is a LOT less funny, although its hard to tell since he spends more time just parroting democrat talking points instead of actually making jokes or saying anything creative.

I used to watch the Daily Show and Colbert Report a whole lot in high school and I thought this guy was funny then.

Now none of them seem funny. It's not even the content and that it's often about Trump or often anti-Conservative. It genuinely isn't funny. Sure, humor is in the eye of the beholder, but the execution is awful. They're beating a dead horse and doing it until it stops shitting money, and there's nothing funny about that.

I heard a tasteful Trump joke on the radio the other day when people were talking about that fired FBI director and how the guy thought "do you think that this thing happened because Trump finally realized that he COULD fire him like 'you mean I can actually do that?'" and it cracked me up. The execution was more nonchalant and done less of an attack and more just trying to be funny. It was also done amongst many other, unrelated jokes. That's how it should be, you know. Material needs to be kept diverse and wide. In my mind, jokes are funny when they are the least expected.

These talk show hosts aren't trying to be funny. They're being whiney little bitches who do nothing but complain and when push comes to shove, they don't do what is necessary to get their ideology the votes they need to do anything.

if you dont want to be colonized you are being a nationalist

>>37117238
Because of discriminatory practises and ideologies that are solely based on what the population believes is the correct and incorrect deserving of the land. As nationalism tends to eat away at the community it's trying to protect.

So the natives don't actually deserve the land that's being colonized from them. So colonization is neither good or bad?
>>37117381
>Wouldn't it be more productive for white nationalists to promote white fertility or slow down immigration?
That's most of what they do.

Sure I may be complaining, but this isn't my job, and I'm not doing it front of millions of people on a regular basis but still reserving the right to fall back on the "but I'm just a comedian!". Honestly, hold a lot of Liberal beliefs and the reason I'm upset is because after losing a huge election, liberals are showing no signs of doing anything about it beyond bitching. I feel misrepresented by these people to be completely honest.

If anything, I'm honestly butthurt to see Colbert degrading as I believe he is now. I'm willing to believe that Russia nonsense is all true and all that, but the fact of the matter is that it is not humor anymore. It's straight political commentary guised as humor. This would be great if, you know, he'd allow people with opposing ideas to come on and discuss their side, but he doesn't. It's petty mudslinging.

Sure, I'm willing to believe there is some entertainment value in telling other Liberals who are upset validation for their feelings, but it's ultimately unproductive and is a noticeable decline in quality if you aren't tuning in to hear what you want to hear.

Strawman and binary opposition.

>>37117433
>So why do natives have more of a right to the land if Nationalism is bad?
Because they were there first, and were often the sole claims on the land throughout their history. And the point of that isn't who's more deserving, it's the fact another power is invading them and booting them out of a land they've held dominion over throughout history; possibly with fatal results. And forcing themselves over a population that doesn't consent or give permission to do so.

Not at all; also strawman. Nationalism is the ideologue that a nation belongs solely to one group, usually a race. And is more close to notions like white supremacy than a populace being invaded by another nation or power. And has a history of steeping itself in discrimination and hate crimes, sometimes genocidal habits, in order to fight off what they feel is a threat to their nationality.

This is a good post. The Daily Show 5+ years ago was often pretty funny and sometimes it would be hilarious. Nowdays these shows have lost their magic. It's like they're so full of themselves they just expect people to laugh at anything they throw out there. Even John Stewart isn't very funny anymore - and mostly because he started to take himself too seriously. They had a 'reunion' type thing a week or two back and they were all just going on about how amazing they are and how The Daily Show and its spinoffs are "better than real journalism", which is such utter bullshit - but I think they actually believe this, and this is part of the reason they're too full of themselves to do anything funny anymore.

I'm not really political so I don't get offended over Trump being attacked, but several times I've seen Stephen Colbert make jokes that seemed like nothing more than petty insults over someone's physical appearance (he wasn't talking about Trump, just random people), and even if you agreed with him politically... nothing he says is really funny.

Oh and I hate how youtube has now merged with MSM to the point that these daily show spinoff clips are regularly on the front page.

I honestly can't understand this type of humor OP. It seems like he's really grasping at straws here, that's why I don't like him, it's because the actual comedic content is so scarce. Don't really like Stewart or Colbert either but I haven't seen any of their stuff.

Then again I probably wouldn't even know about current year man if it wasn't for his politics. Most late night normie "comedians" are really shitty, so it's not so much current year man who isn't funny, it's just normie comedians in general.

And then, it's not even normie comedy that's bad. It's normie culture in general. Their comedians are bland and don't provoke any thought, their movies are watered down copies of whatever book preceded them, their literature is simple. Everything the normie consumes is watered down non-thought-provoking gruel meant to appeal to the masses.

TLDR Current year man did nothing wrong, normies just have shit taste

Because like it or not, these comedians hold a large influence on public perception and are generally advocating a method of communication that is inefficient and ultimately damaging to both sides of the issue.

It's basically how you are now discussing at a low level of discourse. You refuse to actually have a discussion without falling back on insults and simplifications while completely ignoring a vast of what has been said. It's no wonder you defend them because you seem to be so far entrenched in the bullshit yourself.

Also at hand is the idea that their claim towards being a "comedian" is not only an insult to comedy, but a bullshit defense used when anyone cares to have any actual discussion. If that fails, you pretend that it's a non issue. It's cowardly and pathetic.

I'm a hardcore globalist libertarian but I still dislike john oliver

The problem is that he's just so damn arrogant. He's not right about everything, but he acts so fucking smug and like everything he says is beyond reproach

I don't support Trump but I hope he learned something from it like the rest of the mainstream media
>>
>>37116672
I don't understand how people can lump John Oliver's show in with news stations. His team does actually display journalistic integrity and he goes deep into things that normal viewers would never turn to a news channel for. The trade is off is he has to act like an inane cuck to keep his liberal monkeys entertained but idk how everyone here can be unempathetic about issues like voter reform, mass incarceration, and the fucked up state of our healthcare.
>>
>>37116253
Nationalist here. The guy actually is funny, and I loved his show before I became redpilled. Now that I know the truth, though, I recognize him as a propagandist.

It'll be two years come this September.
>>
>>37116553
Fox News doesn't force comedy into its news. It's only a bad source if you actually expect it to be nonpartisan. It's right-wing, sure, but that's only because everything else is left-wing. There is no nonpartisan source.

>>37116698
Yup, there's that smugness.
>>
>>37119465
Honestly it'd be fun to watch. The entire situation revolving Trump is the comedy. That the liberals shot themselves in the foot by being pompous, shit slinging pricks unable to hold a decent conversation. That the conservatives are showing so many signs of weakness that they lost their party to Trump and subsequently have completely destroyed its image. That Trump is the natural result of our culture's obsession with social media and the entertainment industry.

You reap as you sow. I can go on and tell you how to improve the situation. How to sit down and talk. Communicate. Debate. Understand. Improve. But you won't. You'll continue to add fuel to the fire and keep me entertained instead by never learning your lesson.
>>
His show is well produced and his research team does a good job of getting the facts out. Sadly this is painful for anyone who gets their ideology pounded on the show, particularly because people of different political bent will take the content and use it as ammo against you. Combine that with the fact that he's actually funny and became a massive surprise success and there you have it. Haters come out of the woodwork like slaters.

Tall poppy syndrome, opposed political views, and fear. That would mainly be it.

>people shitposting on 4chan is why people disagree with you!
Again, do you think I care? 4chan is not a place for serious intellectal debate. The culture revolves around being edgy and banter. There aren't even IDs to keep track of people during a debate. You don't know if I'm the same person you've been arguing with or if he left and I took over. I'm simply yelling you that a show that a few hundred thousand people watch out of 320,000,000 Americans watch is not something to get this triggered about.
>>
>>37119785
>implying 4chan isn't a microcosm for the personalities behind the masks

4chan is not a place for serious intellectual debate because "serious intellectual debate" doesn't exist in the first place. You think Newton ever tried to sit down and talk to Leibniz and work out their misunderstanding? Fuck that. You and I bloodly well know humans simply aren't capable of detaching themselves from being dumb apes and slinging shit, and our political process symbolizes this. And if you know anything about science and the road it's going down, you'd know it's no different anywhere else.

Sure, you can go on about being "triggered" or whatever nonsense you have to go on about. It in itself is a great example of how awful humans are at communicating anything.

The great part is at the end of it all, I'm not only going to be proven right, but I'll get to watch this entire world go up in flames without having to lift a finger.
>>

It's mostly because he's such a smug little beady eyed rat. Many people are completely unaware that the society welive in today has been formed by the entertainment industry and that entertainment industry has been silencing dissent for decades.

It's more obvious today because of social media and some of these people gain fans before going professional. Look at what happened to Sam Hyde.

Political correctness is a tool used to shut down contrary opinions. If most people believe a belief is so offensive and dangerous that it should be disregarded then they'll police themselves and their social group. BlackLivesMatter is a conspiracy theory but nobody will call it for what it is and people aren't condemned for believing it because it's hasn't been condemned by popular media as crazy and idiotic, in fact, most media furthers the bullshit propaganda because it benefits those with progressive beliefs.

Why do libs abuse the word "facts" so much? Giving a one-sided spiel is not stating the facts. It's stating misleading half truths and if not that then outright lying. His team showed us in the Drumpf episode that it doesn't even know basic accounting 101. Hell his mentor John Stewart didn't even know the difference between a debt and a deficit. Yet these glorified teleprompter readers are treated like prophets by many leftists. Whenever they get called out they play the "I'm just a comedian!" card even though they just keep repeating the same jokes over and over again with different political subjects every episode. It's propaganda. John Stewart even admitted that publicly after years of "I'm just a comedian!"

You're seriously stuck in the early to mid 2000's. Look around you. Libs are autists that make the angry church ladies who used to burn Harry Potter books look rational. >Hillary was a terrible candidate

She sort of wasn't, though. She was the wrong candidate at the wrong time considering the inertia of the pendulum swing at the time, especially with that whole email scandal, but she's a solid politician with tons of experience.

>not because the Democrats are inherently bad at getting minorites to vote for them

I disagree. I am completely dissatisfied with the entire party and its new approach to get new voters. The entire party has adopted this smug, passive-aggressiveness that is accomplishing nothing but polarizing the country more. The entire election strategy was "attack Trump" and it failed horribly. This is coming from a Liberal too.
>>
>>37135604
The fact that you think Hillary is a solid politician discredits everything else you said. She's a neocon with a (D) next to her name. She pushed to have Gadaffi overthrown because she thought it would have a positive outcome and she could brag about that on the campaign trail. She ignored the FBI after the DNC hack and had a private firm investigate to try and stop the FBI from seeing the emails. She doesn't have good judgement.
