My time here in this living hell has almost come to a close. The moment I stepped foot on this campus on move-in day, I knew I wasn't meant to be here. But I powered through the mental strain and agony because I thought I could defy the odds and come out successful. But I'm not depressed or scared anymore, I've accepted the life I have to live. At least I didn't take the full four years to realize my mistakes and only lost one year of my life.

I just finished freshman year with a 4.0 at a pretty shitty private college.

I was thinking of transferring. Do good grades open the doors to the super-selective schools, like Columbia, Rice, Georgia Tech, Carnegie Mellon, etc.? My current school has an acceptance rate just over 50% to give a perspective, with average SATs in the low 1700 to low 1900 range. I imagine I have virtually no chance getting into these places because course-wise I'm way behind where their average freshman would start.
