Anons, why do civilizations collapse?
Because your life is a gay meme

Foreign invaders, either by immigration or outright war.

Republicans
Why do you even care? Original
For some reason after 256 years or so people stop having kids and the country never recovered economically or culturally and splits into several parts(or gets conquered).
>>36894206
Internal complacency. Good times make people lazy
>>36894206
When it gets too powerful and large it feels invincible. It starts serving the upper classes it owes it's power to, though this only causes it to focus on the plight of the upper people rather and the entire entity.
When it sees anyone as lesser, as the Romans did to the Slavs and the British did to its colonist, the people feel subjugated and would rather be free and suffer than be rich and enslaved.

praising the lower classes and understanding it as the origin of civilization is what conservatism is though
>>36894780
I'm not praising the Lower Class, I'm just saying that a society built to support the upper one isn't as stable as a society that care more for the average jack off. Name any empire in history and I can tell you how it correlates.
>>36894206
Because civilization is not natural and once a civ expands and grows it requires a vast amount of resources and administration which is far too much to handle also you must include
>Good times breed weak men
>Feminizing of young men
>Collapse of traditional value and morals
>An influx of foreign immigrants and invaders
>A focus on individualism and narcissism instead of the common people
> Destruction of religion in favor of atheistic nihilistic values
>Valuing greed and profits over family, kin and honor.
Why didn't you listen?
>>36894825
that's not what i was posting about. that's called corruption, not conservatism. just because our batch of conservative representatives are garbage doesnt mean it's the ideology that is flawed
Civilization, especially under Capitalism, is inherently unsustainable. Only a biocentric model is sustainable.
>>36894861
This. The main reason Israel is such a thriving country is because we held onto our Jewish identity and culture and didn't give into atheism and nihilism.
>>36894905
>The people holding this ideology are shit, but the ideology is great.
This is the literal rhetoric of Communist.
>>36894206
>Anons, why do civilizations collapse?
They don't.
>>36895015
NEETS are of course immune to collapse, true god kings.
>>36894206
>Anons, why do civilizations collapse?
Democrats
>>36894912
It's a really narrow point of view to say that holding onto a particular religious identity and abstaining from atheism/nihilism are the reasons a country is good. It's a tad bit more complicated than that.
>high population density
>constant fighting with Palestine
>security everywhere
>all sand nigger countries hate you with a passion
>per capita income is alright
>everything was cluttered, shambley, and fairly ugly
It's okay, but I wouldn't say it's great. I went there on a mission trip as a kid and it was dirty and there was checkpoints/security everywhere. Everything was super fucking cluttered. Plus the Jews are dicks and are slowly taking more and more land every year.
>>36894979
no it's not because conservatism falls back to what was once the (functional) standard. just because they're liars doesnt mean their ideology is wrong

>>36895343
Well, Truman inherited the post-war economic boom when the US profited off the war in Europe, and Clinton inherited the US victory in the Cold War and the neocolonisation of Russian natural resources (achieved by the Republicans).
Kennedy and Johnson really make the Democrats look good, I concede.
>>36895619
That doesn't explain away the poor performance of Republicans.

> Too much pleasure and fun, not enough work.
Not really.
People in a consumerist society work more than ever.
And there is hardly any real pleasure or fun; just an injunction to consume things which are only supposed to be pleasurable, in order to fit in and not feel guilty.
But anon, human civilisation never collapsed.
>inb4 /pol/ meme with counting states or empires as "civilisations"
>>36897584
They have and they will again
civilizations collapse when their ruling class loses confidence in itself and loses the will to rule
look at britain and how many colonies they gave up without a fight, or in the case of places like america after a fight they could easily have won
look at america now and how much WASPs are withdrawing from the levers of power, leaving catholics and jews to rise in prominence
eventually after decades or centuries of power, a dominant people stops drinking their own kool-aid about how they're oh so great, realizes that for all their time in power they haven't affected the fundamental human condition of endless struggle, and then they're unable to maintain their worldly position
>>36896425

my dad is a climate change denier. when I started crying the other week because we passed the threshold of 410 PPM (parts per million) in the atmosphere he said 'of course the globe will warm when all the pussies on earth are steaming up'. then he tried to make me eat a bonsai tree and pestered me for 4 days about eating leaves until eventually he bought me a big mac and hid leaves inside.

There are some that are a bit less trashy but actually it's just plain old:
All humans are trash and continue to treat other people, animals and nature like trash (for whatever reason).
>>36897915
climate change is vastly overblown
humanity WILL deploy sulfate aerosols en masse to cause global dimming - even if international consensus is paralyzed certain nations will do it because the only alternative is death - and then the only long-term effect of muh carbon dioxide greenhouse gases will be ocean acidification
people will die, farmland in some places will be ruined faster than it was previously being ruined, and maritime industries will take a huge hit. But civilization will adjust and be fine. We have way more capacity to feed and support people than we actually need, and also way more people than we actually need; having to tighten our belts due to climate change will be a complete non-issue
>>36898292
Diamond is a fucking hack and I don't need to look up the exact refutations of the arguments to Collapse in order to know that they're probably pseudoscience nonsense

>doesn't account for who controlled congress
>doesn't account for events outside the control of either party
>doesn't account for one party benefitting from the economic policies of the other party
typical libtard bs, present numbers without appropriate context and rely on audience assumptions and ignorance of the issue's complexity to garner support.
War and rebellion. Civilizations collapse when a bunch of people intentionally destroy it. No amount of culture, religion, or nationalism would have saved the Abbasid Caliphate from the Mongols or the Aztecs from the Spanish.
The United States is nowhere near collapse and realistically wont be in our lifetimes.
>>36898357
actually it will be calcite aerosols.
but how can you say that 'only' ocean acidification will be an impact?
that alone deprives huge portions of the planet their food supply. it RAVAGES the ecosystems for the entire planet. It creates toxic algae blooms that could create toxic gas.
And what happens when the oil runs out, or when a rogue actor shoots down a deployment jet? Then we get rapid warming of 2-4 degrees in a matter of months because we won't ever fucking reduce carbon emissions and C02 removal is a fucking pipe meme.
Also what of soil erosion and mineral depletion? Even without climate change we head for a Malthusian catastrophe.

How about actually proving that any of those complicating factors make Republicans look better instead of just cancelling each other out into noise? Oh right, you can't, because they don't. Sometimes things are what they look like, mate. You can't run this postmodern thought-terminating bullshit on everyone.
>>36898433
>Civilizations collapse when a bunch of people intentionally destroy it
That's retarded.
There's a quote, something to the effect of "when an empire is defeated by another force, it can be remade and revitalized. but when it collapses from within, it will never come back". Obviously there are possible exceptions to that but in general I think the principle is valid.
Also, it's fallacious to say that because the death blow to an empire was war/rebellion, that war or rebellion were the underlying cause of the collapse. Cortez certainly made use of inciting tribal rebellion against the Mexica ("Aztec"), but he was only able to do that because of the ethnic and tribal tensions that existed due to the nature of the empire itself, a confederation of conquered tribes under the rule of Tenochtitlan. That was the cause of the collapse. There are few cases where an empire is healthy and powerful but just gets annexed or partitioned by some much stronger power out of nowhere, it's always that there was some existing weakness in the empire that gave other powers or rebels an opening.
>>36898357
>way more people than we need
I'm happy you volunteered first to leave, I'll get my shotgun and do it quick.
We don't want your stupid ass genes pissing in the gene pool.
>>36898551
Improving soil quality is extremely straightforward and the only reason it's not done more is that governments don't currently give enough fucks to organize it and the vast majority of arable land is irrelevant and there's no reason to take pains to save it
The malthusians have been wrong every time before in history and if you're reading sources that can't grasp the basic logic of why that's the case, I don't have a very high opinion of your intelligence or the soundness of the conclusions you're reporting. Same thing with that stupid, stupid "what happens when the oil runs out" point.
The "huge portions" of the planet that would be deprived of their food supply can just start importing their food if they produce anything economically useful. Hell, even if they don't produce anything economically useful, given how much aid the international community currently pumps into Africa. And unless you know something I don't about runaway algal blooms fucking absolutely everything over, the core mechanisms of the ecosystem are very resilient; we might lose biodiversity but we will retain a similar distribution of biomass, albeit with different/fewer species.
>>36898640
What's retarded is implying
>ethnic and tribal tensions
were a bigger factor in the collapse of the Aztec civilization than a foreign army with technology 1000 years more advanced actually conquering them, converting them into Christianity, and making them speak Spanish.
An empire losing a war is not the same as a civilization being destroyed. They don't come back when that happens.
>>36898688
Is that supposed to be an argument? Whoa, wow, an /r9k/ poster is someone unnecessary to society who shouldn't reproduce, what a shocker. That doesn't change anything about climate change being nowhere near the catastrophe ecotards depict it as. There are simple if unpalatable political solutions. Humanity will endure.
>>36898431
At the very least, it is enough to refute the idea Democrats cause civilization to collapse. Also, Democrats had control of the house and Senate and the presidency 11 times since WW2 Republicans only had that level of control 4 times. So you can't really say Congress trying to override everything the president does is the reason for this.
>>36898594
How about you actually prove that it was Democrat policy that directly led to the data you presented?
You made a bold claim and provided one chart lacking the necessary context or information to prove that claim. The burden of proof lies with you.
>"nuance"
What I listed were not "complicating factors", they were some of the bare bones details I thought would be *necessary* to even begin to answer this question. All you've given is the average economic growth over 4-year periods and the party affiliation of the president who held office during those periods. For answering a question of this scope, that's fucking nothing.
>Sometimes things are what they look like, mate
And sometimes they aren't. This demonstrates nothing.
>asking for satisfactory evidence is postmodernism
what a world
>>36898914
>At the very least, it is enough to refute the idea Democrats cause civilization to collapse
I'm not actually claiming that they do, but to be completely fair it really doesn't. The factors that lead to the collapse of a society fester for a long time and themselves develop for their own complex reasons. The data he provided simply isn't enough to disprove or prove much of anything besides "during democratic control of the presidency, average gdp growth is higher than republican control of the presidency", which I'm not even denying.
>>36894440
Fuck that shit. Greed is beautiful. It causes men to build empires, not destroy them. Envy is what destroys them.
>>36899034
Why would you want to live in an empire other than for dick waving reasons? Modern social democracies have the highest living standards for the most number of people ever in history.
>>36899083
I feel as though you read the word "empire" and took it to mean a literal sovereign state under an emperor instead of the intended definition.
>>36894206
Lack of civic virtue and moral strength in the population.
>>36899175
My point still stands unless you define empire to be modern day social democracies.
>>36898178
like how the democrats defeated the republicans in the civil war? because they didn't, if they did we'd still have niggers in the fields till this day.
>>36899227
Well of course your point stands! Who the hell wants to live under a despot? All I'm saying is greed is the driving force behind civilization and envy is it's destruction. Why take from others when you can make for yourself?
>>36898790
The majority of the army that defeated the Aztecs was from Tlaxcala.
I was incorrect in saying the Aztec were brought down by tribes they ruled, but I think the record clearly shows the Aztec would've at least lasted much longer against the Spanish if not for the other Nahua cities trying to take them down, due to the Aztec repeatedly defeating and exacting tribute from them. Not how things were done in Europe or Asia, but this tributary system is what even leads to the Aztec being called an "empire" when you could just as easily call them one of many Nahua city-states.
>no one said it
Women obviously.
Anons saying
>Muh outsiders
