I haven't bothered with space stations because I don't want to use up all the fuel trying to RV with something and then dock. Mostly I just get hung up on making planes though

getting on Minmus is much easier than the Mun, but you need a good rocket design to have enough fuel to go there and back. try asparagus staging? also have you grinded the science points from carting around KSC?
