What you see there is despite much 'scholarship' men are largely unaffected by unrealistic expectations, they think most women are OK. They just actually prefer hot chicks and are prepared to play a numbers game of heavy rejection. If you look at some of their other data this is completely rational, you aren't much less likely to get rejected by an unattractive woman.

The reason feminists bang on about this is actually projection, as usual. They are easily susceptible to media messaging.

What you're seeing on the other side is the effect that one night stands with chad and social media has on women. The messaging pattern is because they are terrified of rejection but always think they could do better than whoever they are with. Its also on much, much smaller numbers anyway.
