I am curious on how the r9 feels about the new Gorillaz Album. I have been waiting for months and got it day of release.
Personally I think it is a good album and I think it adds an interesting twist to the Gorillaz Phase 4 'lore' or story (if you follow that stuff). If you don't care, then what is your favorite song?
I don't feel like there is enough of THEM(Gorillaz) actually in it though, I like collabs as much as the next guy, But don't really get a whole lot to choose from when it comes to the OGs. Which is not necessarily a bad thing but almost all of my old classic favorites are usually just them. A whole lot of underground artists I never heard of, and most of them are pretty good. Not to mention De La Soul makes a comeback
I am pretty torn between Saturnz Barz, The Apprentice, and Let Me Out. being my favorite from the new album
that my 2 cents, thoughts?
why gorillaz so popular?

Cause good music.
why don't you talk about this on/mu/?

>I am curious on how the r9 feels about the new Gorillaz Album.
obvious cashgrab album, that doesnt mean its necessarily bad though
I like Submission, Charger, She's My Collar, and Busted and Blue
Plastic Beach just feels like a vastly better version of this

DECENT 5

I think they passed me by to be honest.
>Gorillaz was the first album I bought when I was 10 after seeing the video premiere for Clint Eastwood on TV. Ended up loving the whole album.
>A few years later Demon Days comes along and blows my mind. Played it to death.
>Then Plastic Beach is released and I'm so excited... then I listen to it and it leaves me pretty cold. I think I just over hyped it. I keep going back to it though and eventually It grows on me.
>Then Humanz. Meh, Most of it is the kind of stuff I wouldn't even go near if it didn't have the Gorillaz name on it. The older albums had a good mix of styles on them, this just feels like a rap mixtape. Haven't even given more than couple of tracks a second listen.
>>36811303
It's garbage. I liked Gorillaz when it was an electro-pop band. This is just noise and black people shouting
>>36811474
Gorillaz is clearly a band that is not happy sitting in One SPOT.
They have changed DRASTICALLY with each album release almost to new complete styles each time. I feel like this album is not a waste of time and I understand why people dont like it.
But some flags should be sorta obvious and sign of this were well seen if you look. They are a team who is changing with time, the same way the characters do. (For those that follow the lore, new HQ, new sound. new style.)
But gorillaz is not a band
>>36811443
And it's only because he didn't want people shit all over comment section. In reality it's a strong 3.
>everyone forgot about The Fall
what did he mean by this?
>>36811359
No, it's cause of nostalgia goggles.
>>36813077
we dont talk about the fall
>>36811303
>Buy the original Gorillaz album when I was 11
>Dad makes fun of me "What are you listening to that for? Haha"
>Put it away and dont listen to it for years
>>36813120
I only started listening to them a year or two ago. You just have bad taste.
terrible album, really really bad shit and is basically Albarn coming out as a BBC addict and signalling that he is ready and willing to be BLACKED any time. such a bad departure from previous releases it's shocking. fantano was too generous, way too generous
>>36811303
i think it's pretty bad, they fell for some musical memes that i really dont like and i think its a shame
i always liked their lore but this album isnt good enough for me to want to learn more desu
>>36814135
Your dad was stuck in jimi Hendrix and steely dan.
> muh Woodstock

I didn't like plastic beach and I didn't like this
>>36811303
Not my favorite but a lot of my friends listen to them. Ascension is really good though
>>36811303
It's an incoherent mess. Shit sucks.
why does everyone love saturn barz so much?
>>36815906
music video, can't imagine that shitfest autotune garbage attracting people otherwise.
It has too much modern rap. Modern rap is very lyrics heavy. Instead of having good music, modern rap has some shitty best with a snare drum. Compare 90s rap to now and notice how much more musical it used to be.
Also I agree, there's barely and actual Gorillaz members. Also Damon is a liberal cuck and legit thinks that hallelujah money is matching response to Trump winning the election despite the fact that it would be much more appropriate had Hillary won.
They already did a 4 panel cover art though. Why are they doing it again?
i stopped listening to it 3 tracks in. fucking horrible meme rap. i like their other albums but i dont know what the fuck damon was thinking with this
It's alright but, demon days is still best. I really enjoy all the remixes they got though
>>36817740
Cause Damon didn't try or care. I immediately knew Humanz was gonna be shit as soon as I saw the cover. Songs like Hallelujah Money, We Got the Power, Ascension made me believe it even more.
it's fucking shit
ascension is the best one and it's not even good
>>36817868
That's how I felt, I just tried it and gave up. RIP Gorillaz.
>>36811462
>Most of it is the kind of stuff I wouldn't even go near if it didn't have the Gorillaz name on it.
Holy fuck, that's exactly how I feel about this album. This time around, it seems like Damon wanted to make "2017: The Album" instead of trying to be ahead of the curve.
Damon has said in recent interviews that he is willing to pass on Gorillaz to other musicians, and I honestly hope he does. It's obvious his heart is not in it anymore.
