Star Trek thread

I love Star Trek and you all should too. It is THE stereotypical robot show, it's obviously just cheap entertainment but it's also filled with deep philosophical and scientific questions, all answered with highly optimistic predictions of the future of humanity. It is a truly beautiful show and a bright light in this dim world. I feel like many great episodes should be mandatory watches for some of our politicians...

Anyone else love Star Trek?

I used to love Star Wars more than Star Trek. But then the new episodes came out and shit up the Star Wars universe forever.

Star Trek however, remains strong (we won't talk about the shitty JJ Abrahams reboots). TNG and DSP were easily some of the best Sci Fi we'll ever have.

I loved watching TOS (I haven't watched subsequent ones yet) but this description seems more apt when describing The Twilight Zone.

I fucking love Star Trek.
I'm a neet and all I do is re-re-re-re-rrerererewatch sci fi. Usually do Star Trek either in the order it came out or just a little different, chronologically (so ENT first), but currently watching Babylon 5. Hate to say it, but B5's the best drama sci-fi there is; Star Trek is the best for that fluff I love so much though.

have so many webms to dump but the fucking imagesize limit on boards than aren't gif for fuck sakes.

oh and Kes ruined Voyager. The moment she leaves the show gets so much fucking better, and most the characters improve.
fucking Neelix is a beta whiney bitch til she fucks off, then he becomes the good comic relief.

oh yeah the whole muh sister muh genocide i couldn't be there shtick was boring, but at least it wasn't very long. I like that he just came the cheerful comic relief for a good 80-90% of the remaining screen time he got, or he got badass and did some cool shit. But with Kes gone, he was easily a far better character. Okay maybe except those episodes with the kids holodeck program.
it was no chakotay and his fucking animal people JESUS
>>
>>36811898
He never becomes good comic relief. I have no idea why they didn't just transport him off the ship into space. He was irritating and annoying as fuck. Between him and Fair Haven, Voyager was significantly worse than TNG or DS9.

Also Harry Kim was the biggest beta in all of space. He crushed hard on Seven of Nine, she flat out asked him if he wished to copulate, and he sperged out and said no.

Star Trek is pretty great. TOS is my favorite, TNG is great, ENT is very appealing to me but I can understand why people don't like it that much, I could not stand DS9 and I haven't given VOY a chance.

Kirk > Picard
I enjoyed the foil of Spock vs. McCoy (logic vs. empathy), and in general I love the way McCoy interacts with Spock. Data was given much more characterization and is a good character, but in the end, I like the way Spock played into the series more than Data did. Maybe if TOS ran longer and they somehow made Spock a cuck or something, I'd say otherwise.

The Corbomite Maneuver because it shows off how magnificently huge Kirk's balls are.

The original movies were plenty watchable, some not to great, but all enjoyable in some form or another.

The new movies are meh, just entertaining. As I said above, McCoy is my favorite character out of the entire series and he didn't really get shit in the new movies. They fucked up the timeline a bit and they're basically remakes because J.J. "Jar Jar" Abrams is a fucking hack, but they're entertaining.

Tbh, though, Stargate is a better series. Better writing, production values, acting, story, etc... But most importantly, they're not socialist cucks that aren't afraid to blow up a sun or kill aliens (this is mostly an issue for the later chronological bits of Star Trek, Archer and Kirk gave no shits and fucked/killed aliens all they wanted).

Eh, I found him funny at times. The character they used to throw the joke when everything was getting serious to lighten the mood which just got glares, I don't know, he was a much better character that way.

But yeah Harry Kim is a beta. Least he died and the one that got back to earth has to live for the rest of his life knowing he's not the real Harry Kim. Fucking Harry.

Stargate got real boring the later it went. The basically just recycled entire story arcs and just changed up the characters. They might've added in a few things that they had to escalate save the show getting completely boring (the ships, Asgards, etc) but otherwise by the time the Farscape actors got into it the show was shit.
Good concept and everything though, will always remain one of my favourites for very that. But hell, Farscape was better than Stargate.

I could never really get into TOS, but all the movies, except The Motion Picture which I've never seen were great for the most part. My favorite is The Voyage Home, no question.

TNG is a great series, Riker being my favorite character and Geordi and Data being tied for second.

I prefer Babylon 5 over DS9, which wouldn't even exist if Paramount hadn't met with, taken notes, story ideas, and a series bible, from J. Michael Stracynski, who went on to create Babylon 5.

Voyager was alright, didn't care for Kes too much but I loved all the Borg episodes and Janeway wasn't too bad. Chakotay used to be my favorite when I was younger but he became boring and annoying as I got older.

I still need to rewatch Enterprise from the beginning.

The TNG movies were great too, with the exception of Nemesis. First Contact is my favorite TNG movie with Generations being an extraordinarily close second. Generations is true 90's sci-fi kino in my opinion.

You're completely right.

I'm re-watching SG-1 (been nearly a decade since I have), and I'm awaiting season 8 or 9 where they almost wholly replace the cast.

By 7 it gets both kinda threadbare and absurd at the same time. But, I mean, for a sci-fi show with over 200 hour long episodes, I think they tried their best and mostly succeeded.

Atlantis was a breath of fresh air and I think they learned their lesson by only letting it run for 5 seasons.

I tried watching Universe when it came out, but it just didn't enthrall me the way SG1 and Atlantis did, and I'm not going to lie, I was pretty burnt out on sci-fi from watching SG-1 and Atlantis back-to-back in anticipation of Universe. I'll probably give it another try.

Also, I will say Richard Dean Anderson is a gun-hating fag and his beliefs seep into the show (just look at the shit with Charlie)

On the matter of ST games, the Armada 3 mod for Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion is the apex of what's currently available, and it is bretty fun too.

I really enjoyed Atlantis. Rodney was great, and the whole thing was pretty good. Didn't like Universe too much, only watched a new episodes. Seemed really out of place.

I just wish Sins was optimised for multicore CPU's. The game gets too laggy and the frame rate drops the longer it goes on.

Absolutely. They do not make such great scifi anymore, it's only about killing the aliens and exploding the planets. I was excited about it when I was a teen, and I am still excited, couple of decades later. I wish I could move to live on USS Enterprise, practicing my profession there.
