>you get a decent job and start moving up the ranks
>it's replaced by a robot and you're let go

What will you do?
>>
>study WARNS

nigga we should be excited for this
robots should do all of the shitty stuff we don't want to and we should be left to become the race of NEETS who do whatever they want we deserve to be
>>
>>36727209
you mean you expect someone else to keep paying for your lifestyle after all the jobs go? like corporations who specifically made robots to spend less money on hiring people will suddenly be okay with paying you for doing nothing?
>>
The existential ennui is already palpable in society, I'll just kill myself like thousands of others will do when they realize they're superfluous
>>
>>36727271
The government should continue to pay for my lifestyle
>>
>>36727209
>effective allocation of resources
Nigga are you a fucking commie? People who don't work won't eat.
Fucking russian shits ruined socialism for everyone forever.
Now robots won't be our liberators, they will be our slavemasters.
>>
Get a skilled job and this won't happen to you
>>
>>36726995
Good. It'll boost productivity and lower costs of goods.
>>
>>36727910
This is probably gonna be more or less true in the next 20 years
America absolutely hates the idea of income without labor (so much so that we deluded ourselves to thinking the elite rich are all hard-laborers or very lucky, when most to all are just smart investors)

So robots are employed by companies, who will privately make a higher supply with a low demand in America cause no one has a job to buy shit anymore
Companies leaves the American market to sell to a nation that will buy their stuff, which they have already moved a ton of production off-shore anyways; imagine how cheap the shipping would be to sell to the country that produces your stuff
So with no demand and no supply, America dies impoverished and ignorant

Hope not at least but that seems our current trajectory...
>>
>>36727547
you know the government gets money from working people right

it doesn't turn up out of thin air
>>
Try and find another job.
If not, I destroy all of the robots the company has.
>>
>>36726995
>even robots have to fucking explain everything to women
No escape.
>>
>>36728051
Better lower them to zero because there's not going be a basic income ever.
>>
>>36726995
Get a job that is so decent that it requires more intellectual capacity than a gibbon could offer.
>>
>>36728051

>Cost of goods stays the same
>Executive bonuses through the roof

What then motherfucker?
>>
>>36728001
This is exactly why robots are going to kill the economy. Everyone will have to get a skilled job, so then everyone will have to go to college and go into huge debt, but there are only so many "skilled job" to go around even right now. I'm not even a commie, but we need to have a revolution to stop the richfags from doing this.
>>
>>36729733
It only needs to be so skilled that a robot couldn't do it. High school education is perfectly sufficient for this.
>>
>>36729733
>stop the richfags from doing this
Why tho? We need a reset, let it burn.
>>
>>36729422

>you know the government gets money from working people right

>it doesn't turn up out of thin air

It actually literally does, we use a fiat currency, the government along side a central bank prints as much money as it needs, taxation is simply a way of taking money out of the system. And that isn't even taking into consideration fractional reserve banking where private banks literally loan money they never had in the first place - essentially creating even more money independent of the central bank (until an economic downturn results in mass defaulting turning their balance sheet into a pile of bullshit). Read up on new monetary theory.

How's that accounting degree treating you? What's that? You can't find work anymore because it's fucking useless now?
>>
all those poor wagies. They're always saying they have no agency and would be so bored without work and just sit at home doing nothing all day. PErhaps I'll come out of NEETdom to serve as a life coach and give them menial tasks and criticize them like they crave. I'm not sure what I'd accept as payment htough. What do you pay the man who already has everything? I guess they could suck my dick or something, maybe use them for maidservice and give ma' a break.
>>
>>36729422
No, it comes from working robots, that is the whole point
>>
they do articles like this all the time, they're designed to scare you. it's a load of bullshit and we'll all be dead before the robots take over
>>
>>36730005
It just scares retards who don't know how many NP problems there are in robotics or what this implies.
>>
>>36729816
there is a human element to detecting fraud. there will always be auditors. you engineers on the other hand....
>>
>>36729780

Skilled? No, not necessarily. Jobs that won't be automated either need to be human relationship focused (i.e. nursing, counseling or support work) where people will be repulsed by an automated service or it needs to be both difficult to automate and also not cost effective to implement.

Things like gardening or landscaping won't be automated for a long time because it requires a lot of creative problem solving, complex movements, terrain navigation AND it's a relatively low paid field any way, so it's essentially not worth automating.

Computer related things will be automated first, particularly accountancy and finance related fields, white collar shit, because they're jobs that simply require analysis of data and bring the biggest cost related benefits. Any other non-creative computer focused field with a high salary rate will also be automated. Large areas of medicine will be automated quickly as well, despite being highly specialised and difficult to implement, simply because of cost effectiveness.

So essentially, either go into human related service sector or manual grunt work.

>>36730079
Wrong. That's what they said about musical instruments.

no you're wrong robots are going to gain sentience in 5 years take over the world and turns into slaves for corporations trust me I watch science videos on youtube and read wikipedia and browse r/science.

>tfw have to deal with this level of retardation in any discussion even slightly technical

What robot would still be using a desktop
>>
>>36730446
retarded argument. we are in the post-industrial era so most new jobs have come from the tertiary sector, which is generally less productive and lower paying. but now there is no new sector to move to once tertiary sector jobs are gone. sure you could say there is another sector for research, design and maintenance, but it is a very small one which will take a long time to grow and may never become more than a small fraction of the workforce. so you can't just say "hurr durr people were panicking before!" when we are at a whole different level now.
>>
>tfw programmer
GET FUCKED NORMIES
>>
>>36730783
That research sector might grow once we build fucking tens of billions of droids. When robo-workers outnumber humans 5:1, at least, then everyone can move over in the research, design and maintenance sector.

We'll need more planets, of course. Or a global war that shreds the human population to about .5% of what it is today.
>>
>>36730783

As great as self driving cars sound people are too stubborn. That shit won't happen because people think people can drive better than computers. Medical is safe too. People are sad when they're dying and shit and want the human touch. Doctors are fucking retarded but people trust them more than a computer. Shit, look at self checkouts. Faster and better in every way yet you still see long ass lines at the regular tills and only a few autists standing by the self checkout.

Robots are great but I don't see them doing much outside of industry for the next few decades. How many jobs are there in the UK anyway? 10 million sounds like a lot, but how many of those jobs are powder coating wheels or sorting mail for the bong version of the post office? I'd like to see what percentage of jobs that is but I'm too lazy to ask a computer.
>>
>>36730986
>bong version of the post office
It's the ROYAL MAIL.

Sort of. Privatised now. Not doing a fraction as well as it was doing when it was nationalised.

>Shit, look at self checkouts. Faster and better in every way yet you still see long ass lines at the regular tills and only a few autists standing by the self checkout.
I live in a mostly student area and it's the other way round here
It's probably a generational thing
>>
>>36731743
It is a generation thing. You see more younger people going for self-checkout than older people.

There's a bit of luddism in there. But maybe older people prefer to be able to look down on the serving classes. It's hard to feel superior to a machine, especially when you can't figure out how to work it and have to call one of those serving classers over to help you.
