The single biggest improvement that exhentai could implement would be an onsite history page.
Sometimes I read through doujinshi but don't add it to my favorites, since I can't add everything to my favorites, but it's something I want to find later.
For various reasons the on browser history page isn't reliable for exhentai - there's a bunch of non hentai to sort through, it's not sort able with the tags which you can use on exhentai.
On the coding end this would be fairly simple, the search function is already developed, there just needs to be a new value for each doujin for read or not read, which changes when you click the link
Having a searchable history page would add a huge amount of value to the site.

Gigabytes? No it would be like 200 mb for the entire exhentai library for every user max
It's literally just like one extra field
literally just a binary option
and it could even be opt-in so only people who wanted it could use it
