As suggested in a previous thread I've asked my "ISTP" friend who has a seemingly very un-ISTP hobby (translating old French songs and poetry) about his reasons for doing it to gauge the depth of his ideas and interests.

He's mostly doing things like military or propaganda songs, e.g. mercenary marching songs, songs from the crusades, propaganda and so on.

He said it helps him see various events from the perspective of the people involved, understand their attitudes and even feel what it would be like to take part. He said that even when it's just propaganda it says a lot about what sort of incentives were considered appealing to the people at the time.

Thoughts? I thought ISTPs weren't particularly interested in empathy. Maybe he's mistyped?
