It was more that Sato was on an island with other depressives who were about to kill themselves only to find out even there he is truly alone. In the episode after all the other people have family to come and reaffirm how much they're loved and they all regret trying to commit suicide over trivial things. Except Sato. It's really stark.

I watched this near the end of highschool, but today I truly get it. I'm a khv with no prospects who was cheated out of so much and now I'm rotting in front of this computer screen. Everyday it feels like family or acquaintances are saying "it'll get better just be yourself" or "You won't be alone forever you'll find someone you love". How can they be so goddamn oblivious. I've tried and tried and tried to do better and have been taken advantage of for it. I feel at this point I'm just living for others sakes. The life of a robot is truly misery. This sceneis just too relatable for me. Even I keep trying to tell myself it'll get better, but I know it won't. I've sat up late at night thinking if I get a girlfriend will it really change anything? I'll just be the same person I am now . How long until the feeling wears off and I become disillusioned? I just thing the problem lies with me. I thinking of suicide so often now. Only porn and music distract me. I wasn't expecting to type out something like this. Everytime he wants to change something or has a little hope about the future it always crashes and burns and he ends up right back at square one. I remember the episode with the fireworks where him and yamazaki were yelling that they didn't need girls or something then yamazaki goes with a girl(it's been a while I may not remember it clearly.) and Satou's left sitting in his room alone saying "I hope you all get hit by fireworks and die". He doesn't have it the worse and he could probably mend things, but he won't and nobody can make him help himself. I found it relatable.

I wish this anime focused more on the neet and shut in way of life. I know an entire anime on it would be probably be boring as fuck but at least talk about it for more than 1 episode before introducting irrealistic cute girl who wants to help you and high school friend who happens to be your neighbor. Kaiji is similar only in the sense that the MC is a gigantic fucking loser who has no control over his life and keeps making shitty decisions and blaming everyone and everything other than himself for the shit he ends up in, but it's way better because it's about crazy gambling adventures.

There's a manga author called Takahashi Tsutomu and all of his stories are depressing and somewhat grounded in reality. Don't think any of his stuff has been adapted to anime though.
