I watch anime the same way I watch regular shows and western cartoons - because some of it interests me. Don't get me wrong, I agree that most anime is trash, and to be honest being exposed to it at too young of an age can seriously warp kids' minds into seeing the world in a false light, but that doesn't mean the medium as a whole is worthless.

On the whole, I found that the best anime comes from the more "grounded" series; i.e. not shit like a group of school girls fighting the forces of quasi-Lucifer in their spare time. If you keep an eye out for quality, there's some really good stuff out there.

I rarely watch anime because i find it extremely boring and repetitive. I have to force myself to actually watch a 20-minute episode till the end.
