Sydney is nothing like New York or LA, the outer suburbs far more dangerous to live in than the inner city, though that said, I lived in an apartment block out near redfern an we had a break in 4-5 times a month there, half the time the police wouldn't even show either. Best advice is, the most expensive a suburb is here the safer it will be.

Australia is a very empty Country, only the city's are worth living in because there's on employment out in the smaller towns unless you're a famer, or wanna work in the mines, the guys that do have their shit together in the country spend their weekend in a bar getting drunk with the same people that they've known for the past 20 years, though 90% of our population her lives within 10kms of the coast, so we also have a massive surfing culture here, almost every guy you meet that didnt grow up in the city knows how to surf no matter what age they are. Even in the city's we're about 10 years behind the world technolicly (fuck how do spell it) and socially. Its always hot here compared to Europe, but I've been told culturally we're identical to the UK only with more conservative values as a whole. Also compared to most of the world that I've seen, Australia is mostly on par with the US in terms of "bigger is better" we build massive houses, drive big cars, an eat like shit because space will never be an issue here. Is that what you wanted to know? I tried to be as unbiased as i could. Take it or leave it, I've been to most of Europe an Asia so I've got a bit of an idea about what I'm talking about.
