I want to make action to get it out of my system, but really I kinda want to just do a lot of midnight movies. I've always looked up to John Carpenter, nigga literally never gave a single fuck (up until he did and he started making shit like Ghosts Of Mars).

I don't know how I'm gonna get there if I keep putting things off. Life gets in the way and when I'm not thinking about movies I'm watching or trying to write them. Getting around to actually shooting, even though I'm relatively competent in the realm of photography, is a whole different ball game.

I'm a huge movie fan so I get you. I've always wanted to make movies too. But it's not practical for me since I already have a job and music as my hobby.

There must be loads of people doing this on youtube already. Like all you really need is 5 actors, a good idea/script, and one or two decent cameras (eg. Black Magic Production), some lighting boxes, and get to it.

If it were me, I'd start by trying to save up money and pick up a decent rig. Then get decent at shooting with it.

Or alternatively, start with the scripting and then just hire a film student who has a camera to shoot when it's time.

You could just start with shorts too. I love compliation movies and anthologies. Southbound was pretty good for horror.

Action would be too hard for a starting movie. You're better off going for a suspense or drama/spooky kind of set up. Can be done with low budget. eg. Devil (2010).

Those are my random thoughts.

I do think that shooting action is a challenge but I've learned so much about filmmaking from action and video essays about action that I feel like I can figure it out. It's a dream of mine.

This one was made by me and my friends before we knew what the fuck we were doing. Ironically it's the most complete one I've ever done. There's so many issues with sound, focus, acting, editing, it's a fucking mess but I'm still proud of it. Also I get my ass handed to me in it, so that was painful.

Like I said I tried to rework the script best I could. It's my fault for not polishing it further. We originally had a voiceover but never got around to recording it since trying to do ADR for the dialogue literally made me fucking cry. Never again.

I've been working on something new though. Script of my own, shooting it is a pipe dream right now but I'm genuinely loving what I've built.
