Has anyone tried meditating to fix their problems? I've tried it on and off, my longest for three weeks, but I might have to try again after reading so much about the benefits. Apparently it's one of the few things known to cure Anhedonia (loss of pleasure), so I pretty much have no choice. I usually give up because my bad posture screws with me too much.
How about you? Ever give it a shot?
I'm trying meditating.
It makes me calm down at least for a little bit, but I still have some issues finding quiet times and also finding the best way to sit crosslegged without getting tired
Bumparoo, I really want to know more about this, I'm a noob
You can just sit in a chair.
Yes, I meditate. I've been doing it infrequently lately and been feeling more fucked up as of late. When I was doing it every day I felt way more calm and relaxed and not as anxious or depressed. It's not just a meme, it is really helpful.

I only have concave chairs with little back support, and for what I've read it's not optimal to do it that way, so I try to use the ground with my back to a wall.
How do you do it?

You don't even have to sit. I like to meditate lying down. As long as you can focus on your breathing and not fall asleep, you're good.
Also a timer is a must. That way you won't break concentration by constantly looking up at the clock.

Everywhere I've read advice against lying down, but I will try the alarm thing

What's your actual advice for doing it? I just try focusing on the air as it passes through my nose, but it doesn't seem like it's working. After three weeks, I didn't notice much of a change, and I felt like I was doing something wrong.
I've done it the Buddhist way. It does calm me down at first, but I lose focus quickly and all my life's problems start pouring in and disrupting my peace.
If you're like me and too lazy you can try acid or mushrooms for a similar effect

>take a few deep breaths
>scan body
>breath and focus on the up/down feeling your lungs do when inhaling/exhaling
>mind inevitably wanders
>keep bringing attention to breath
>stay in present as long as I can

Those videos are really effective? I always assumed they were like the pop version of meditation, and wouldn't actually work or help for the long run.

The headspace meditations are pretty good. Just don't pay for it. I did the free trial, then downloaded the torrent of the rest of the meditations and they are just subtle variations of the Take 10 meditations (that are free). They are good for getting you in the habit. Also the free meditations on the Calm app.

Thanks man, I'll give it a shot.
What's the goal of meditation?
