I had a really early 4:3 LCD monitor and the sun was mostly blocked out by my window AC unit, but everything else is pretty spot on. I was also 17 and fresh out of high school with unlimited time on my hands. WoW is what made me the NEET I am today.

I never played vanilla, but i started playing when WOTLK was announced (call me a wrathbaby and shit but that's still fucking 10 years ago) Tried out Nostalrius/elysium and desu it's an easy 8.5/10 comparison to how wow was when i started playing, but no matter what, you can't bring back the community, the people are there but they're not the same type of people, and if they are, they changed with time like anyone else.

I played RuneScape back when it was still 2d sprites and you had to pick a class when you started the game. I got butthurt when RuneScape 2 came out, but I learned to love it. I stopped playing in early 2005 after getting combat level 100 to play vanille WoW.

Back then internet was so interesting and new still. It felt like an unexplored new planet. Now the internet feels too familiar, there is nothing that will really be a big shock.

You can do the same thing only for so long before you start to get sick of it. I did notice that eventually over the years me and my friends started focusing more on our hobbies, gravitating towards boards that discuss said hobbies and kind of started ignoring flash stuff, gifs and youtube. Occasionally checking in on those sites, but mostly doing stuff outside of consuming entertainment.

I still enjoy hearing about raids, I still enjoy witnessing shitposting on various boards and I do enjoy hearing about /a/ having long stream nights where they re-watch classics from the yesteryears. I miss feeling immortal. I'm a NEET these days, have all the time in the world but every action I take which isn't towards self improvement just hurts. The birds are tweeting outside though, its the start of spring and remembering those days is making me smile.

I agree with this as well. I never felt like I should be doing something else at a younger age because there was nothing else.

The rest of my town was shitty people and there was nothing else I could do.

Nowadays there is ALWAYS something I should be working on instead of messing around ruining my life.

this is such a painful feel. I dont enjoy the gym, uni, my part time job, the thought of my future career prospects (all 5 days/week, 8 hours/day), or much else.

i like spending my time gardening, reading and playing video games, but i have such limited time that i dont get to do it super often, and when i do, my mind is 50% focused on how quickly ill need to stop

WoW private servers with crossed chat between the two factions are pretty much like EvE online.

EvE online is pretty much the 4chan version of videogames. I've been there. I've seen it all. Its a single player game with "advanced NPC AI" where anytime you walk out of the station you should assume the possible loss of your ship, no matter the activities you do. Its funny in the beginning but it gets boring after a while (its a fucking grind).

I spent my youth reading fundamentalist traditional Catholic and Eastern Orthodox forums, even though for most of that period I never even participated in a real life church. I ended up finally going to an Orthodox church for a few years sporadically but in the end I fell away from it.

I was never a normal kid with friends. I wasn't even a normal loser playing vidya. I was the ultimate outsider to everyone.
