It's a valid question. How could a board with no other defining characteristic than that each post be original become a refuge for wizards, their apprentices, and Nature's other mistakes?

Before this board existed, /b/ was the place virgins discussed the pain that comes with being left behind. Sadly, the random board did no favors for this site. It made the posters look stupider than they actually were. Human beings are lazy and all too happy to indulge that vice if left unchecked. So this board was created to encourage original content, to redeem the potential this site offered from the cesspool it was sinking into.

So we found ourselves with a board that demanded original words. Required to be novel, people have the tendency to draw upon their own experiences. The dictate that one should write about what he knows exists for a reason. This place inevitably became one where people discussed what they knew best: their own feelings.

Well, what did the denizens of 4chan feel during those early days? The repulsive virgins found a place they could discuss their experiences without being drowned out by an endless torrent of pornography and forced memes.

However, things do change and the pendulum is swinging back the other way. The late bloomers who grew up on this board are finally beginning to flower. However, this place was their nursery and it's hard for even happy men to leave childish things behind. And why should they want to? What was once a graveyard that served as a home for ghouls is slowly becoming a garden.

So, take heart. This place will someday be entirely yours. Well, almost. The beauty of the garden will always be marred by the ugly reality of the nettles and briars that are incapable of flowering. Ugly though they are, weeds are very difficult to root out. Spend enough time here and, like it or not, eventually one of their thorns will prick you.
