Bizarre. I mean, I'm older now, and most of my coworkers are even older than I am. They're not hooking up, for the most part, they're married with kids or divorced and so on. So I suppose it makes sense at least in that respect.

However, I still find it bizarre that people have these conversations, even younger people. As I mentioned, even as a young man, coworkers never discussed these things. My friends rarely discussed these things. And even when the topic came up, no one ever turned to me and asked if I had yet to have a girlfriend or have sex.

Perhaps people only ask the question as a sort of initiatory process. A curious sort of litmus test to see if you're normal in an important respect. Are you man or monster? That sort of thing. In my case, I think that has to be the case. Sex is a very important aspect of the human experience, and it's no surprise people are interested in it and want to talk about it.

Again, what I do find surprising is that "are you a virgin?" question. Maybe it's a way to pull someone into a conversation that is important to the vast majority of people (virgin or otherwise) if that person is reluctant to join in. Perhaps it's, as I suggested previously, a way to gauge whether someone lives as other humans live. Perhaps it arises out of nothing but prurient interest; if the person in question is not a virgin, they can talk about their sexual experiences. If they are, well, freaks are always enjoyable to observe and abuse. Sideshows exist for a reason, after all.

However, for all of that, it always made me sort of sad that no one tried to engage me in that sort of discussion, It would have been nice to talk to someone about the topic.

I think that was one of the reasons that I was spared that question, given that the answer was a foregone conclusion. The most efficient and simple way I was able to rectify my situation was by hanging on a bar at work. Just trying to lift my body weight everyday. It took months, but I was finally able to do a few pull/chin ups. My friend that joined the military was shocked when he saw me after like 3 years. He said I 'squared up'.
