Holy shit I fucking loved those things. You were supposed stand them up and flick them to try and knock other ones down. If you played with a friend you could, for example, make bets to see who could knock one down first and trade them. They were called gogo's, my friends and I all had them.
>>
>>23980375
You play against another person. Both of you line up your things on opposite sides of an arena, and takes turns flicking them with your finger at the oppenents things. Whoever has the most remaining ones wins. At least that's how I played it with my brother.

I didn't play with these in the traditional way. My brother and I would wage wars with them. Each type of piece was a different race or part of a different faction or something, and the long rod pieces were their weapons. When one died, we would break the weapon piece off to show that they had dropped it. We had hundreds of these things and the battles were huge. We did the same thing with Lego, those toy army guys, stuffed animals, even marbles. I wish I could go back, man.

I remember, my father used to get this big thousand page catalog from a hobby outlet that had everything in it, from tools to electronic components to wires and all sorts of shit.

I would spend so much time reading through all of it, looking at all the components, trying to comprehend what they did. I circled the ones that really interested me, it greatly calmed my nerves. My parents thought i might have been autistic, but came out relatively normal.

One day my father bought me an electronics starter toy box set that had a breadboard and all sorts of components in it with instructions, and i had a whale of a time with it.

I made contraptions that would trigger a lamp when a plant needed water, i made a light that would turn on when it got dark, i made an alarm that would activate when a contact was opened, etc.

Ever since i have been more interested in the theoretical and scientific realm, as the emotional world always greatly confused me.

Anyone else have this? I can't find a picture of the actual toy but there were a bunch of soldiers with various weapons, a castle with removable parts to simulate destruction, and all the artillery would shoot marble-sized plastic balls to break the castle. There were also siege towers that had destruction bits too.

Holy shit was it fun. My dad and I would have large battles with this.

At the time, there was no other gaming experience like it, save for the arcade.

When the N64 and PS1 rolled out, they delivered a gaming experience that was pretty much only found in the realm of high end super expensive computer hardware.

When i played my first PS1 game (Running Wild it was called or somethin) with my friend, it was mind blowing awesome how good it looked, and how much fun it was.

Today, every smartphone can deliver a gaming experience that rivals a PS3. We have become so accustomed to it that it no longer holds a special place in our minds.

High school, my parents couldn't keep it up financially and didn't have degrees anyways so I was basically learning everything independently by then. I had trouble socially (what board are we on?) but the academic system wasn't much of a problem, first test I ever took passed me out of algebra and geometry. That's when I got full freedom with video games and computer time.

How was farm life? Despite all the naturalism I've always been a city boy.

There was only Unreal, Unreal Tournament, Unreal Tournament 2004 and the newer garbage.

UT2004 is where it was at. Tons of mods, Ballistics Mod one of my faves. I used to be really good at making levels with the map editor, so i build an oversized replica of my bedroom, and me and all of my friends would play against each other on it, after every session there would be some comments, and i would add more stuff to it. The scale was like ants, everything was fucking huge, you could go into my computer, vents in the ceiling, awesome stuff.

I am so sad games don't allow you to be creative anymore. Now it's like this, you're given 10 maps by the company, and if you want 4 more you gotta wait a year and pay 20$.

I so desperately wish the Battlefield series would include a level editor.

I never got into map making but there are definitely some awesome ones out there. May I'll check it out. Just don't have anywhere near the amount of time I had back then. I actually really liked a lot of the stock maps and wish more servers cycled them. Well, I guess I mean I wish there we ppl to play with on those maps still. Now it's either people running the demo map Torlan or mods.
