My anxiety has gotten pretty out of hand over the last couple of months. Every little ache or pain I get is some kind of symptom for a new horrible disease. At this point I'm convinced I hate an aneurysm building up in my brain, colon cancer, and congestive heart failure. If I have all three of these, I should probably buy a lottery ticket.

It wasn't until I was about 25 or 26 that I finally bought a sleeping mask.

While initially, the added pressure, and at times the increased heat retention, around my eyes was annoying. However, I've grown to enjoy them.

I had been consciously altering my sleeping position in order to avoid light sources, whether they be my TV/monitor that hadn't shut down after whatever media I fell asleep to had finished, or light shining in through certain spots in my blinds.

I considered the alternative, getting blackout curtains. However, my computer chair sits against the wall and I use the window sill to hold drinks, chap stick, and other odd things. That, and I think having blackout curtains is a formal surrender of any semblance of normal sleep/wake cycle.

I've worn out one sleep mask to the point where the mask part itself has become de-laminated and the elastic strap has begun fraying.

I actually have a new one on the way.

Only rarely do I use earplugs. I find them too quieting and thus allow my tinnitus to disrupt my sleep. Additionally, the pressure can be uncomfortable at times and there is a 100% loss rate throughout the night - I've not once woken up with my earplugs in place. The earplugs are nice for when neighbors have loud construction noises or lawn crews operating when I'm trying to sleep.
