I don't live there now but I was born in Budapest, I moved to the US when I was 2 years old. I still go back to visit family every so often. It is indeed a very beautiful city. I personally think that from an architectural and topographical perspective, it can easily give the best cities in the world some competition. The city can be a bit run down by western standards but if it had the kind of money that say Paris has it would put Paris to shame imo.

Hungarians can be extremely pessimistic though, it's kind of a national pastime, and from what I've heard the language is quite difficult to pick up for non-native speakers.
