See, a genuinely sad person can only pretend to be happy for so long. I'd rather murk in my sadness than strain myself even more to make everyone else perceive me as happy.

You can simply choose to have that state of mind, and add along with it simple body hacks like closing you eyes and smiling while breathing very deeply for 5 minutes, and you will indeed be able to feel happy. The reason you aren't happy is because you think the body and mind are separate, and you depend on external validation to feel happy, like you feel you don't deserve happiness, when in reality you can choose to just be happy for no reason other than being happy.

I'm a perfectionist but only about my art. It's sort of crazy but I let everything in my life turn to shit but I can't share art that I feel looks bad or sloppy.

Everything I've read about perfectionism says it comes from early praise in your teen years and not properly working your way up through incremental steps. Basically too much too fast.

Idk. It sucks because I've been fired from jobs over it and I've sought help before. Sometimes I can make progress for a few months, then stumble and start all my bad habits up again.
The problem is a lot of the professional help is "just stop caring" which I hate or take this medication that'll dull your attention so you don't care. I sometimes just think I don't have the tools to succeed in a world that moves fast.

There's a book called the pursuit of perfect that I think is great. I'd recommend it if you suffer from this. It was written by a perfectionist and he's the only author who seems to get it.
