The weeks following the strike against the heretics are quiet, with only some minor grumbling from the populace regarding the new rationing system....

That is finally broken when a Inquisition
shuttle carrying a pictgraph recording arrives in the system, providing a message from Corean for you and your trusted leadership....

You have the command room cleared of all but Captain Felix, Sergeant Zachias. Colonel Detorio, Captain Masson and a number of other important officers and planetary administration officials....

The video plays, Lord Inquisitor Corean dressed in a more regal manner than his regular armored tunic....

He announces that Asteria III has fallen to rebels, and has declared for the separatist force.....

He also announces that Sector Lord Andreas Kennedy has been executed for extreme negligence and incompetence amounting to treason......

He then declares himself Lord Regent of the Icara sector and that all loyal Governors and Imperial Governors are to join him at Jotun II, a fortress world near the northern border and western border of the Sector

He is forming a war council, and has begun formally gathering forces from all non-engaged loyalist forces for a massive push back at the Separatist forces.....
>>
>>1792799
oh great. We can't get to Jotun 2, can we?
>>
>>1792812
What makes you think that...?
>>
>>1792825
that big ol' warpstorm mentioned last thread. We're cut off from the Imperium.
>>
>>1792799
With the message, is another more personalized message, where he greets you and orders you to come to Council but have your troops and ships hold your corner of the Sector, with the Lord Inquisitor hoping to use Tarkon IV as a loyalist anchorage and staging point....

You immediately make preparations to leave, but order your ships to aggressivelly patrol the area, and your ground forces to continue intense war games and military exercises in preparation for the battles to come.....

In the days before you leave, you find yourself reviewing some documents, you find questionable trends and spikes in production at one of your main mines, immediately raising your suspicions, you have some of your people look into it, and it seems the mines have been consisting underperforming expectations for the last several months....

A secret police operation is launched to monitor the Administrator of the mines and several of leaders there....

It takes almost a week, but the monitoring reveals a highly sophisticated smuggling operation, where the mining leaders fabricate records about their production figures, while diverting small amounts of every mining yield to a small hidden cave, apparently once a week, an unmarked Arvus Lighter comes to pick up the hidden stash of raw materials and delivers them to a small freighter hidden in orbit, which was only discovered by changing the patterns of our ships patrols and auspex scanning sweeps, the original of which were apparently leaked to the smugglers by an inside man within our space forces.....

Our forces have not yet moved to detain the freighter and the smugglers, but has kept them under strict observation....

A. Strike now and eliminate them
B. Wait and see if the traitor reveals themselves

The western Segmentum Pacificus is relatively free of warpstorms, although they do dot the region, and disrupt traffic and slow down warp travel

See pic related, we are trapped on the left side of the bright green line, which is a solid approximation of where the great warp-storm is....

Whats also bad is that there are unsubstantiated rumors, from some freighter captains that the light of the astronomician is dimming out on the western border of the Imperium, and several border worlds have been struggling to maintain contact.....

You have your forces wait another week, when a discernible pattern is found, with the smuggler shuttle run always seeming to be around the exact same time, you have the traitor deduced down to two suspects, either the Augur Officer who is doctoring his findings, and intentionally doing a poor job scanning the area the freighter is hiding in, or the lieutenant that is on watch at that time of night, who is likely scrubbing sensor records to cover up the activity, and directing scans and patrols away from the area.....

Both men are brought in by the Secret police for questioning, and after a day using the soft approach, simply asking them, your police resort to more brutal measures, extracting a confession from one of the men after several hours of torture and interrogation, revealing ties to a smuggler ring operating in the region....

He has offered to become a mole, spying for us on the smugglers in exchange for amnesty for his crimes......

A. Take him into service as a mole, and let him know we are watching him, if he even makes an inkling of a move to betray us, the secret police will be by to pick him up shortly
B. Have him jailed or executed for his crimes

The two men, artfully removed from their posts for a few days in ways that will not produce suspicion, are placed back on the late night watch, the innocent augur officer, sworn to silence and granted a fair sum of thrones as compensation as well as the threat of a permanent disappearance if he talks about what happened to him.....

The smuggling operation has continued during the investigation, with almost half a full shipment of quality iron and gold being smuggled off world where its price and value have tripled as practically every world on this side of the warpstorms is building up their defense forces at the same time....

A. Shut them down, we need those resources for us

The mole gives the all-clear signal to the freighter, where the smugglers deploy their arvus lighter shuttle and send it to the surface to pick up the stolen ore.

The whole operation takes about an hour, where the arvus lighter lands in the bay of the old freighter, before travelling a few hours beyond the edge of system into open space before warping away, escaping detection.

A week passes and your people have come up with a cunning plan....

The Redline is placed near the exit warp point of the freighter, running silent, with only passive sensors and communications equipment.....

As the freighter begins to activate its warp drive and gellar fields the Redline powers on, collecting tracking information before immediately warping after the freighter.....

Unfortunately you must go to Jotun II for the war council and cannot wait the amount of time for the Redline to return with information, which could potentially take over a month.....

You have the Edge of Tomorrow readied as you go on a run with Tarquin around the system, the massive Tarkonian War Hound, pulling you along, as you have started getting out of shape and are unused to the fast pace and strong tug of Tarquin as his powerful legs push him forward.....

You pet him as he nuzzles you, when you are informed by your staff that the ship is ready and its time to go....

Somewhat reluctantly you board the Edge of Tomorrow and set off for Jotun II....
>>
>>1792956
alright, good session.
>>
>>1792956

The 2 week journey is uneventful as the ship jerks out of the warp back into real space....

You find a beautiful blue orb, and a smaller white orb revolving around it, as you view Jotun II and its moon from the edge of the system, your cruiser's auspex scans picking up dozens of Imperial vessels around the Massive fortress world, home to large navy base and Munisitorum Fortress and staging point, where whole armies can be garrisoned here at the same time, making it a good place to start a large-scale campaign...

It is also revolved around by Jotun III, its large moon, while the climate is harsh and frigid, the atmospheric content and conditions leave the planet barely habitable for human colonization without any kind of terraforming. The endless amounts of coal and other fossil fuels burned, making it so you can barely see through the atmosphere to see the surface below, the massive quantities of cerramite and other valuable mineral sitting beneath the surface, providing fuel for manufacturing, along with the gas Giant Jotun 1....

You are quickly intercepted by a powerful squadron of warships, led by the Battlecruiser Pride of Belcara, marked with that world's PDF insignia, along with 2 cruisers and half a dozen escort craft, who after demanding identification and the intent of your visit, escort you to the berths of the port before returning to patrol the outer parts of the system....

It being late by Tarkonian time, you go to your room for the night, and try to get a good night's sleep before joining the slowly war council, as more and more Imperial leaders arrive in the system....
>>
>>1793001
You wake up and eat a quick breakfast before reporting to Inquisitor Lord Corean, who shakes your hand with a smile on his place...

"Good to see you Maximilian, I heard about what you did on Asteria III...."

He expresses a great deal of interest and seems genuinely pleased to hear about my efforts in saving the loyalists on the planet...

Telling you that was one of the factors in trusting you to do your own independent operations away from the main loyalist forces, at least for this stage of the campaign anyway.....

He also talks to you about wanting to grant you a special Planetary Governor designation, that of a Marcher Lord, a special designation dating to the decades following the Macharian Crusade, and the revolts and instability that followed it, where your tithes are reduced and often your demesne is expanded in exchange for an oath, higher than that of a normal Planetary Governor, expecting to provide a higher number of troops and ships to the defence of the Imperium which you will be asked to take a more active role in.

You will likely be given some territory to control/protect, with the marches covering the edges of the Imperium, where you will be expected to hold without support for years possibly from the horrors residing beyond the halo stars....

You will also almost immediately come under Inquisitorial scrutiny if you act suspiciously....
>>
>>1793038
This is the guy that is a radical big I right?
>>
>>1793038
This is a write-in, you may accept the offer for the special title, with the additional resources and responsibilities that come along with it, or politely decline, for at least and possibly risk your forces being absorbed into a larger loyalist unit....

You may also try to ask Corean any questions about the goings on and how the war is going so far with the Separatists, as well as dealing with the string of raids in the sector by Chaos forces...
>>
>>1793048
Yes, he is a radical Lord Inquisitor from the Ordos Xenos, who has been seen wielding xenotech as well as possibly some archeotech as well
>>
>>1793038
this sounds like a good deal. The downside is increased scrutiny, but there will be some level of tolerance for unorthodoxy if we are to operate without support for so long.
>>
I think we should accept. What do my fellow anon's think?
>>
>>1793038
Graciously accept the title and ask to what lengths beyond the norm (ie how much tech heresy he'd condone) he wishes us to go in order to keep the separatists at bay and chaos under heel. Let him know about our operations that have led to crushing cultists successfully on our own planet and that we are in the midst of coming down on a smuggling operation which should further enhance imperial stability in the region.

Ask him about the war efforts and where things need to be strengthened and what we specifically can do to help.
>>
>>1793059
I think we should go ahead and do it. I can't see any downside as of yet, at least comparing to the amount of heresy we're already committing.
>>
>>1793068
I don't think we should ask how much heresy we can get away with. That's deliberately left vague, because as soon as he says how much we'll immediately move to that amount.
>>
>>1793073
I dont mean ask directly, I' just looking to get an unspoken agreement that we can push the limits "Do what is necessary to ensure victory" so it limits our exposure in the future
>>
>>1793076
That unspoken agreement will not favor him. Just because he's a radical doesn't mean he wants to encourage heresy. I think we should judge how much we can get away with on our own.
>>
>>1793038
Accept it but tell him we'd need to..actually get shit up and running beyond us at the moment. We didn't expect such a soon reward
>>
>>1793076
What rules are there governing the use of atomics, if any?

>>1793082

We really need that battleship now
>>
>>1793090
IIRC:

The imperium won't take action on what you get up to on your own territory, as long as
a. It's not heresy
b. You pay your tithe on time.

Certain activities, such as destroying your own populace without extenuating circumstances or failing to suppress a revolt will result in you getting removed from command.
>>
>>1793076
Do not do that. even Radicals have limits.
>>
>>1793104

You accept the new title, being granted overlordship of the Rorscha system(at your request) as well as a sparsely Primitive world Iban Secundus, according to legends, once a human colony in the Dark Age of Technology, its inhabitants literally bombed back to the stone age, a condition that the Imperium has done little to change during its half millenia rule of the planet, with a population numbering less than 3 million. Sitting on the Imperial border, it is a critical outpost on the edge Imperial space, providing a staging location for expeditions into the unknown regions beyond the halo stars....

The small space station orbiting the world, is more of an observation post than a true fully functioning space station, its small secluded crew glad to speak to any outsider humans that happen by.....

You also gain control of dozen uninhabited systems, with mineral and gas resources available to be harvested and a planet ripe for colonization, the system loosely patching your demesne together, with several oddly shaped borders with your northern neigbhor, which will likely cause tensions over control, with your northern neighbor the Belcaran Governor and also newly minted Marcher Lord Ronson Alpharius deftly rising to power a few decades before your arrival on Tarkon IV, taking a medium sized Imperial World, and turning it into a minor power in its own right, with a powerful defense fleet, consisting of a fully fledged squadron,Led by an upgraded Battlecruiser, including almost a dozen light and heavy cruisers, along with over 30 escorts...

Alpharius has also dramatically improved the manufacturing capabilities of the world, drawing ire of Local Forge World as they have begun exporting significant quantities of military equipment to neighboring Governors, building relations and having an extremely well equipped ground force...

They can field a dozen armored and mechanized regiments, and a large number of atmospheric craft and support vehicles like mobile artillery, and vehicles for logistical support.....

>>
>>1793183
Pretty good run but we really need to find a way to beef up our entire Fleet now and triple our military size.
>>
Well first things first, we need to see about what the conditions are like on the ground in our domain, what we need for more throne gelt (to be applied to more ships and other things), and what our neighbors are doing. Large fleets are a sign of a disharmonious location; we should have a meeting and a drink with our fellow marcher lords.
>>
>>1793186
We need the battleship frame, that just got a hell of a lot more important
>>
We should really meet with our Sister again soon, make sure she ain't falling to Chaos.
>>
>>1793090
Not really any rules.
The reason why atomics generally speaking aren't used is because fission is considered extremely wasteful seeing that fusion energy is literally everywhere.

Also because atomics are pretty niche tools in contrast to everything else.
You can achieve same effect by bombarding with regular macrocannon fire, except that Macrocannon fire doesn't leave the area irradiated.
They are better than standard macrocannon shells in terms of ship to ship combat though, where the radiation doesn't really matter either because, you know, if you're dicking around the wreckage, the voidsuits will block that shit anyhow.

Imperium generally speaking doesn't care for nukes generally speaking, seeing that if you need something to do the job of the nuke, they generally speaking got something better, such as Plasma batteries, Plasma bombs, Nova cannons and shit, which sort of make your nuke macrocannons look pretty pathetic by comparison.
Still, if you need to lull someone into a false sense of security, such as a Chaos fleet, nukes are a great way to send a big fuck you with just macro batteries.

Considering the amount of shit hive worlders and forge worlders deal with in terms of waste, dealing with radiation isn't that much of a difficult task anymore either.
It's enough trouble though that Admech doesn't hand them out like candy tho.
>>
>Imperial borderworld serving as a staging ground to the halo stars.
Oh hello!
Seems like a future Rogue Trader truckstop for me.
Selling regiments, equipment and ship repairs in exchange for lucrative business deals.

We might be able to turn that into a Major Trading Hub, meaning that instead of selling natural resources, we might be able to start to actually buy that shit, seeing that there's plenty of developing Rogue Trader settlements that need gear.
>>

100% agree.
>>
>>1793152
Yea! More tribal girl to tribal girl harem
>>
>>1793210
Meh. That battleshit will takes years and years to build, and soak up resources that could be going to other efforts. Never mind having to undertake military action in order to attempt recovering it, and then trying to tow it through the warp.

That thing was a scam, and it's best forgotten.
>>
>>1793152
You attend the war council, despite not committing any forces to the campaign at this time. They plan on hopping from world to world, taking them back from the separatists.....

The only major separatist forces in the first stage of the campaign are the PDF of Varna Secundus, and their powerful ships.

Varna has declared for their self proclaimed revolution and joined the people's republic....

You sit in on some of the plans and depart a few days later as you are not involved in this stage of the campaign....

You leave, new title in hand, and head back to the Tarkon system, you are already drawing up plans in your head.

What do you want to focus on first?

A. Securing the Iban system, sitting on the edge of the imperium
B. Rebuild the Rorscha system
C. Industrializing Tarkon IV

Also:

>SECURE FINANCING! We want to hit the ground running on this shit.
>SECURE PEOPLE! We need more for the manufactories and PDF.
>Get some plans from the mechanicus. We want to build high end shit.

Lastly,

>Direct secret police to expand. We want a battalion, if not a full regiment on Rorcha V to keep an eye on shit. Give them a regiment suited for riot control as assistance.

>>1794500
>>
>>1794716
We're cut off from the rest of the imperium right? Or is it possible to have more hive refugees sent here by our family? We could also see if there's any refugees in sector that would be willing to settle on a few of our new worlds, or even some of the populace on Tarkon IV.
>>
>>1794644
>>1794514
You quickly organize an assistance mission for the rorscha system, bringing a number of administration officials and bring humanitarian and construction supplies. After an orbital bombardment during a dark elder raid, most cities and infrastructure have been destroyed, although some rural areas were left virtually untouched. The once large population reduced to 10 million survivors by the slaver ships or obliterated in the following orbital bombardment, leaving the planet a ruin....

However before you get a chance to leave, the redline returns with news of the smugglers freighter, the merchant smuggler was selling to belcara, and to your rival alpharius, who may not be aware of the source of the raw materials, but this is still a political scandal that could be used against him for favor, although there is still a chance that he could still prevail in a dispute, since he has more political influence due to the size of his forces....

A. Use this scandal against him now
B. Drop the issue
C. Sit on it for now

Unfortunately we are cut off from the greater imperium and a warp journey would be highly risky, making it unlikely
>>

I think the best we could do is trying to bring in refugees fleeing the commies for now, perhaps settling them on some uninhabited planets.

As far as the admech goes, we really should look to expanding our relations with the local forge world. We're in need of their services, and they are pissy about our rival not going through them right? Securing plans from them may not be that easy, doing business with them should be though.

You decide to sit on the scandal for now, saving it for later. You set off for rorscha and find your sister has mostly focused on humanitarian efforts for the time...

The population has been clustered around several farming towns and a major city, your sister has been ruling from the ruins of the capital, slowly rebuilding the ruins while trying to keep the people fed....

The planet had decent mining before the attack, mostly undamaged but understaffed

The farms lie fallow, most of the people that tended them killed or taken by the dark eldar

Finally there are no fortifications on the planet and the small defense force is under equipped and disorganized....

Keep in mind that such a vessel could very well serve as our base of operations, much like their ship does to many a rogue trader.
There is no shame in altering our modus operandi as our realm grows.

Especially since such a ship can house a manufactorum, essentially turning it into a mobile arms factory when necessary.

By the way, as we hold multiple regions under our command, we probably need some form of regencies within these worlds, which we supervise very closely.
>>
>>1795012
Ok I plan on running tonight stay tuned for updates
>>
>>1795012
Unfortunately manning the farms is all you have the people for right now, the rest of the population involved in other essential functions or too weak to work the fields....

They currently have a decent food surplus with their badly depleted population and could sustain another few million people without too much trouble, however with the rate of refugees coming in, you will likely need to find a new food source for your demesne in the next few months if you want to keep taking in people....

With wave after wave of refugees seeming to arrive at Tarkon IV, you could redirect some of them to Rorscha to help bring the population back up and rebuild the planet.....

A. Do it

After a brief ceremony in front of the surviving upper class of Rorscha, you name your sister, Governor Regent, using your new powers as Marcher Lord to designate her as such until you decide otherwise....

You privately meet with her afterwards and discuss your refugee policy as well as a general plan to rebuild the planet...

She agrees to receive a large number of refugees, who will be subjected to a screening process to look for separatist and heretic spies as well as to find out the skills and inclinations of the new arrivals, so that they may be used most effectively.

With that in place, and the farms now being worked again, you must decide the overall focus of the efforts for the next year...

Most of the people live in bombed out homes or humanitarian shelters and are still surviving off emergency survival meals, due to the lack of ability to move food across the planet with most of the infrastructure destroyed....

However there are also some bombed out manufactorums, that could repaired in fairly short order and start producing war material, which is badly needed to crush the separatists and other threats in the sector

As far as undesirable refugees go, how about penal battalions and serfdom/forced labor? Perhaps expanding our secret police to something akin to a local commissariat.

Also, so we have two populated worlds? Going to need to raise some local PDF forces on them. I'd suggest drop troopers considering how small and sparse the populations are.

You choose butter over guns, deciding it would be better to focus on rebuilding the planet than manufacturing more weapons....

You and your sister develop a 1 year plan to rebuild the critical parts of the capital city, bringing back electricity, water and other necessities, along with restoring several key roads, reconnecting the planet and making it more livable with supplies and people easily making their way across the surface....

You also have some private talks to your sister, who while having been a decent caring leader, has had to work with limited resources as well as chronic head pains, due to her uncontrolled pysker powers, which have led to mood swings and other unpleasant side affects, resulting in Lyra opting to stay in her room, rather than making many public appearances.....

We really need to find her a teacher.....

You make sure she is safe and well taken care of, and everything else seems relatively well to you when you head back home, the brisk daylong journey giving you time to collect your thoughts.....

You arrive uneventfully, and find that the astropath has news from the campaign, a series of great victories are announced against the separatists, with half a dozen systems being retaken from the rebels....

Its good to see that the campaign is going well at least....

You bed down for the night and are wracked by nightmares of being killed by the chaos space marines terminators that boarded the space station and wounded you before, you instinctively rubbing the scar even in your sleeping state....

You wake up with a mind to check on the status of our secret projects...

The geneseed has been stabilized and stored succesfully, and is ready to be implanted as soon as suitable candidates are selected and put through the first few years of Astartes training....

Meanwhile the Genetic modifications are still taking some time, being complicated despite the addition of the Solar Auxilias genes as a base to model off of, the Emperor's early gene therapy doing fine work, making the merely human warriors the best they can be, with increased strength, speed and intelligence compared to a baseline human.....

Obviously short of an Astartes warrior but still a valuable advantage to have over our enemies.....

Finally the manufacture of Tzavara's rifles has stagnated without expanding the facility, Xeroth's efforts hampered by the lack of cerramite an ultralight, strong material used in the creation of powerarmor, powerweapons, spaceship construction and weapons as well Tzavara's rifles and is quite rare and expensive.....

What should we do first? You find out that a Inquisition courier ship also arrived in your absence with a recorded message from Corean, ordering you to continue to hold the area with most of your forces but contributing Edge of Tomorrow to a combined squadron from Belcara and other PDF fleets and to join the main fleet, where they will attempt to draw the Separatist alliance into a decisive battle....

You give orders for the ship to be readied for a long campaign and are alerted by alarms, and run to the command center....

You arrive and sit down in your chair, where the Augur Officer says"Hold on it's one of ours, well they're back early" as the Absolution finishes its jump into the edge of the system from a patrolling the area, its powerful sensors and strike craft making it excellent for the task.....

They report they have found dozens of minor warp rifts including an extremely peculiar one, with a huge space hulk sitting across the planes of both warpspace and realspace with a massive part of it sticking out into realspace, where a group of space drifters and refugees have taken up residence, offering to sell salvage to passing ships....

They clear underestimate the danger they are in, and have apparently sent exploration parties in regular voidsuits into the warpside of the hulk, where they claim there are many items of interest including several derelict vessels and what looks to be a small planet in the distance....

Seeing the size of our ship, they even spoke to your Captain about a business opportunity, as a derelict battleship within the warp near the hulk appears to have an intact nova cannon mounting its prow, which with some trained engineers could possibly be removed and towed back to realspace to mount on our ship....

Of course they are asking for a large sum of thrones and some basic weapons to protect their explorers in exchange for the salvage rights to the Nova cannon

A. Have the hulk destroyed immediately, who knows what could be lurking aboard, and what they could draw
B. Take an interest in the nova cannon and see what else they have for sale

You send the Absolution back to confer with them about the Nova Cannon and see what else they have to offer....

They return a day and a half later with the 2 potential trade deals we could make....

The rifters are hard up and in need of food and medical supplies and are willing to trade salvaged cerramite and components for them

In addition for 100,000 thrones they are willing to sell you the salvage rights for the Nova Cannon and even provide a few men to help retrieve it, but it will require specialists and our own crew to salvage it....

The rifters also tell you that no party to go into the open has returned.....

The Battleship is a floating a few miles from the edge of the spacehulk, and will acquire a short spacewalk(or warpwalk we could call it) over to the derelict battleship hull with unknown horrors inside....

You decide to trade them for the cerramite and components but pass on the Nova Cannon for now....

You get the shipment organized in short order, and one of your men notices during the meeting that several of the rifters have signs of mutation, likely the reason they are drifters living outside the formal rule of the Imperium. The people living on the hulk seeming to be growing in number, with lost refugees taking refuge in the hulk....

They could prove a recruiting ground for spacers for our ships....

You could also always come back and destroy the hulk settlement, as mutants are severely frowned upon in the Imperium, with even the most tolerant and progressive worlds often keeping them as a permanent underclass, consigned to menial labor and other unpleasant tasks, while less tolerant worlds often purge them altogether....

You give Xeroth the go-ahead to upgrade the shipyard, temporarily halting all construction, with the defense monitor already completed, albeit under equipped, and the Battlecruiser hulk towed out of drydock....

The project is expected to take at least 6 months, and use up most of our steel resources that have been stocked up for trade...

Meanwhile you hear rumors of a rebel victory from passing freighter captains, apparently a small Inquisition squadron was sent to Asteria III to enact exterminatus on the rebels in an effort to break their spirits and make an example out of the population of Asteria III, which is currently embroiled in a civil war between communalist rebels and republic rebels.....

Apparently a People's Republic fleet emerged from the warp and engaged the Inquisition fleet, sending it to flight, with one of their cruisers destroyed and their mission uncompleted....

This has lead to revolts on several more planets, as well as a Communalist victory in the Asterian civil war, while small, the battle has been propagandized into a great victory of the revolution....

You walking Tarquin for a walk around the station when you are notified of a message by the Astropath, you quickly wrap up the walk and head over to the astropathic chamber, where you are told that he has received two distress signals from the same world, Ryazin V, a small but valuable agri-world a dozen systems away west of you, in a subsector where rebels have seized control of several worlds....

Along with Basilisk artillery support and our aircraft, you must decide the make up of the force

A. Combined Arms force(1 Mechanized Regiment, 1 Airborne Regiment and 1 Solar Auxilia Regiment)

Your Military commanders believe a combined arms regiment would be best, with a well rounded ability to fight in the planet, primarily a land of fertile river valleys, with mountains and large hills dividing the valleys....

The Mechanized troops will be great for offenses in the open ground of the valleys, while the Solar Auxilia troops can hold the narrow passes dividing the planet, while the Airborne can quickly move about the valleys, flying over mountains and holding positions as well....

Who should lead this force

A. Colonel Detorio, his specialty in mechanized combat will be an asset rushing across the valleys and streams strewn across the world. A unit lead him will do better vehicle maintenance and be able to traverse tough terrain faster and much easier due to better use of maps, paths and roads
B. Captain Masson, his airborne specialty as asset in better leading airborne operations taking remotely held objectives, a unit he leads will organize its airborne infantry better, and be able to regroup quickly after aerial insertions
C. Sergeant Zachias, his heavy infantry specialty will be critical of use to holding key objectives and digging in on the planet, Auxilia infantry will be more resilient and inspired to fight by Sergeant Zachias, who occasionally leads from the front, slaying all that stand before him with his archeotech pistol and power sword....

Captain Masson, former leader of the 854th Elysian regiment, has since turned mercenary, and after taking a contract with you he has been recruited into your service as your Chief Airborne officer, he and the remainder of his regiment, which was summarily retired on the far side of the galaxy from their homes have stuck around to assist your army and help train your own homegrown airborne units, which have come together nicely....

His mastery of surprise and ambush will be useful for all regiments, but he will benefit the airborne the most, keeping close and organized during jumps

You forces enter the system and are quickly greeted by a message, hailing you from the loyalist forces, Indentifying themselves as the leader of the loyalist forces , a Captain Reinz Vakarian, of the Veldstatan 24th Panzer Regiment regiment, leading what remains of it the Veldstatan 39th Mechanized regiment and a few regiments of the poorly equipped Ryazin Defense Force, who fight as light infantry

The separatist forces consist of large elements of the Veldstatan regiments sent to secure the the world and its valuable food stores against the rebels, along with roughly 60% of the PDF and immediately engaged loyalist forces in concert, after Veldstat declared independence when the news of a separatist victory against the Imperial fleet, and saving Asteria III from exterminatus emboldened a dozen more worlds to declare independence or join the growing folds of the Communalist and Republic factions of the rebel worlds....

Captain Vakarian has stayed loyal to the Imperium along with his men and both sides have been decimated in several months of combat, in the Vepyr river valley, which is still contested between the Loyalists and the Separatists....

Unfortunately the situation has become exacerbated by the arrival of Torgoth the Defiler, a Nurglite sorceror, who supported by a small warband of 50 Nurglite Plaguemarines have landed near the artic region of the planet, converting a small horde of plague zombies from its population before heading south primarily towards the separatist forces, although loyalist forces have engaged the Nurglite horde on several occasions....

Their is currently an undeclared truce between the Separatists and Loyalists on the planet as both human forces have resorted to the occasional mortar attack being the most potent attacks on each other, while facing most of their forces north, towards the Nurglites....

All right guys thats all I got for tonight, next time we will get into the Battle of Ryazin V and the aftermath. Have a good night, and as always feel free to discuss or ask questions

Despite his position as an Captain in the Imperial Guard, Vakarian defers to Captain Masson's veteran leadership....

The surviving loyalist forces on the ground are inferior in numbers and equipment to the separatists and are currently dug in throughout the south west quadrant of the planet.....

A large portion of their forces along with separatists are set up near the Vepyr river valley, a massive valley, only accesible through a few mountain passes and divided north and south by the mighty Vepyr river, which runs east to west....

The fertile soil now littered with corpses, spent shell casings and wrecks of dead vehicles.....

Captain Masson in quick to reinforce the loyalists and take command of the loyalists.....

The separatist positions to the east are dug into some foothills on both banks of the Vepyr river, covering one of the few natural crossings, with the bridges long destroyed by previous fighting, they have taken the brunt of the Nurglite attacks and may be willing to come to some sort of official armistice, at least until the Nurglites are defeated....

They still possess several tank and chimera companies, along with a squadron of vendetta gunships and some anti-aircraft and artillery support....

What should we do first

A. Attempt to gain an armistice with the separatists
B. Launch a quick strike on the separatists
C. Respond to the Nurglite hordes

You send an emmissary under a whiteflag across the no mans land, where the separatist commander, former Colonel Ludwig Von Dunstedt agrees to a temporary ceasefire until the defeat of the Nurglites and a tacit agreement to join in a large scale artillery attack on all Nurglite positions, with Torgoth himself and a squad of plague marine bodyguards covering in an abandoned bunker in the neighboring valley to north their only access to the Vepyr river valley being a narrow pass, that could be taken and held by droptroopers until reinforcements arrive to aid them......

The rest of forces are hiding in near the rocky edge of the valley, covering from artillery and air attacks as they marshall their army for a massive attack wave, with tens of thousands of zombies making up the horde, from the formerly living and recently deceased dead...

Based on observations of their behavior, it is believed they will take soon, in the next few days most likely....

They are led by Plague marines who have already led a massive attack against the separatist lines, observation aircraft report that the fragmentation and kinetic killing qualities of artillery making them ineffective against the zombie hordes, with flame weapons and sheer firepower the only way of truly stopping them...

Captain Vakarian, tells you that he and a company of Leman Russes led an armored sortie against the Nurglites, to disrupt them and push them back, in order to give the infantry time to dig in fortified positions....

He claims that the only direct hits from tank shells being truly effective, with some crews switching from high explosive to solid shot penetrator rounds, while Vakarian claims that he used his superior scopes on his Vanquisher tank, Siegfried's Fury, named for a legendary hero from their homeworld, to strike down one of the terrifyingly dangerous plague marines, using a high-velocity penetrator round, kinetically obliterating the plague marine in a single shot, unfortunately his actions resulted in one Leman Russ standard battle tank being lost to the enemy, drawing the horde and the tank subsequently being disabled by a missile launcher attack, from a plague marine squad equipped with heavy weapons, frustrating vehicle attacks on their forces....

It was viewed that the tank was swarmed by zombies, the crew opting to intentionally detonate the ammunition compartment, destroying the tank and zombies crawling on top of it at the tiime, its heavy bolter sponsons simply overwhelmed by the tide of necrotic flesh.....

Vakarian believes that a full fledged combined arms attack could destroy the horde, using mobile forces to lure the nurglites in a killzone and direct maximum firepower against them....
>>
>>1805312
Captain Masson believes the best move is have the Droptroopers secure the pass and assemble a crack company to attempt to assasinate Torgoth in his bunker, armed with plasma guns, melta guns and flames while enclosed in full carapace armor and given some air support, he believes that it would be a high-risk, high-reward mission, with the kill company being doomed if the horde were to rush to Torgoths defense, and the Plague-marines are extremely dangerous in close combat, their plague blades they carry, effortless rending through armor, despite being unpowered and infecting the vulnerable flesh inside with a warp plague, that rots the infected flesh, spreading across the body, causing agonizing pain before killing the infected and raising them back as a zombie.....

How should we strike the Nurglites? Or perhaps we should wait for them to attack us?(this is a write-in)
>>
>>1805321
Could we make such a strike happen during an 'armored' push for infantry to advance? This way they are unable to react effectively?

Also can't we just shell the position from orbit?
>>
>>1805328
Yes

Orbital strikes can work, but are inaccurate and required to be guided by a targeting beacon or helmet mounted targeting laser, that is linked into our squad leader and officer's helmets....

However the laser can work from only a few thousand feet away....
>>
>>1805321
>>1805353
Can we have a ship come closer to the target to fire so its less inaccurate?
>>
>>1805410
Also, burn all the dead in mass graves and bury the rest.
>>
>>1805410
Unfortunately its the nature of planetary bombardment weapons to be somewhat innaccurate, the passage through the atmosphere, gravity and wind conditions all playing a role, the ships are already in prime bombardment position over the valley, the two cobra escorts serving to protect the Wrath as she supports ground efforts.....

Fortunately the Wrath of Manachea,as a vessel in the Great Crusade, was expected to frequently provide orbital fire support for ground forces, being equipped with 1 medium sized and 2 small orbital bombardment batteries, capable of destroying troop concentrations and hardened positions alike

Leaving significant farming areas intact afterwards, so it may be worth it to try to eliminate the threat quickly and contain their spread to a small area....

It is also believe that they came to this world to poison the sectors food supply, killing millions and weakening the survivors through hunger and unrest, as billions of people suddenly realize their entire food supply is bad....

Every astropath in the Imperium heard the Cadia distress call and the descriptions of the chaos force approaching, you know that the heretics have proven capable of massive excusrsions and are likely attempting to weaken and divide the Imperial worlds in the cutoff Region in preparation for a large scale attack.....

Captain Masson watches through his highpowered binoculars from the command Valkyrie as the orbital strikes land, roughly on target at least.....

The 3 salvos land amongst several large groups of zombies, taking out most of their number along with their plaguemarine leaders as well.....

The horde has now been reduced to around 50% of its starting strength, although more zombies are getting back up from the blast than expected.....

You gather up your droptroopers to secure the pass into the Vepyr valley, and prepare the kill-company for their gruesome task

A strong success

The separatists deploy several mechanized and armored units, moving them to join up in holding the pass and deploying a company of Veldstatan fallschirmjägers(droptroopers) in their last remaining Valkyrie squadron to assist....

There is rumbling thunder in the distance as artillery bombard the Nurglites, the voxwaves buzzing with activity as an observation Valkyrie reports that the horde is on the move towards the pass....

With less than 2 hours reorganize and dig-in, the droptroopers giving solemn prayers to the emperor, as besides some rough hills and stones, there is little to stop the overwhelming tide of necrotic flesh....

It doesnt take long for Valkyries and a squadron of Separatist Vendettas to start making attack runs on the Nurglite hordes as it makes it way south, dropping several prometheum bombs, burning the hordes, as well as 100LB bombs favored by the Veldstatans, additionally some craft launch traditional gun runs, using lascannons and autocannons against the horde, although the fear effects have no impact against the undead....

Men begin to vomit as the foulest smell imaginable, that of the burning of necrotic flesh begins to waft through the air.....

As our main forces bombard the Nurglite horde, a squadron of Valkries approaches the Nurglite bunker, carring a company of volunteers attempting to slay the chaos sorcerer and end the raising of the undead.....

Please roll a d100, I will take the average of the first 4, dropping the worst

average of 74 a decent success.....

The Kill-Company, under command of a young Lieutenant, lands in a clearing near the old bunker complex, and begins making their way to the complex....

Back at the pass, the lead elements of our mobile forces have arrived and are helping to dig in, with several Leman Russes effectively serving as mobile gun turrets....

The horde slowly moves forward trudging along towards your line, where tanks begin firing at them from afar, with Captain Vakarian's vanquisher able to slay another plague marine....

The zombies are lead by plaguemarines, who often group into small squads, helping to lead breakthroughs for the horde behind them to exploit.....

As the horde finally comes into range of the first line of troops, lasguns are completely ineffective against the plague marines, who seem to keep on coming regardless of the wounds and damage they take, as they approach they fire with often unerring dicipline, with short accurate bursts of bolter fire, cutting down men by the dozens.....

They also throw plague grenades, some sort of sorcerous weapon made from a severed head, which explodes into a foul fluid that melts through armor and infects the vulnerable flesh inside, killing and turning the infected....

From the obersvation Valkyrie, Masson sees a squad of soldiers die as a plague grenade is thrown in their trench section, their screams of dying agony, overwhelming the vox channels for a few moments, followed by a wave of zombies jumping into their trench section and attempting to overwhelming neighboring areas...

It does not take long however, for mechanized infantry reinforcements to rush to the front line, and push the undead out of the trench....

Finally the horde is pushed back by strong coordination from Captain Vakarian, and the Separatist armor support, the plague marines are cut down, slowly but surely by accurate tank cannon fire.....

Meanwhile the kill company has reached the bunker entrance, and has found the main entrance already breached....

Entering with caution the company fans out, looking for where the Sorceror is hiding in the complex

You see a squad leader checking his corners through the pictfeed, before you see a slight movement down a long hallway, immediately followed by a hail of heavy bolter fire, badly wounding a man, and pinning down the rest of the squad.....

You see the squad leader quickly motion for 2 men to make a distraction on one side of the hall, while 2 others with a melta gun and plasma gun open up on the Plague marine, striking him several times to no avail, finally after getting another droptrooper badly wounded, that strike down the plague marine with a shot to the head, destroying the corrupted Astartes brain
>>
>>1792747
2 dozen men are killed overall in combat with the plaguemarine body guards, and most of their expected number have now been fought and killed, but Torgoth and the last few plague marines are still undiscovered in the complex....

After several more minutes, a squad reports the bunker connecting to an underground river system, that connects with the wider sewer system of the planet, including several of the major cities in the southern part of the planet.....

Alright unfortunately I have to stop here, im not sure when I will next be able to run but I will do my best to let you guys know at least a full day ahead of time. As always thanks for playing, and feel free to ask questions or discuss the thread
>>
>>1806876
wait, how the fuck did that remain connected from orbital bombardment? And why the fuck is a bunker of all things, connected to an underground river system that LEADS to the sewer system?
>>
Our PDF is great.
There are planets who have problems dealing with a single Astartes, though in all fairness, the Astartes too are a rather varied bunch in terms of their competence and plot armor.

Makes for great report for the Inquisition though.

Wh40k fortified are stronk. They generally can withstand orbital bombardment to some degree, either due to Void shields and shit.

Also, we need to develope a system to deal with sewers. Sewers seem to manifest scum out of thin air for seemingly no reason at all.

If it's not mutants, it's chaos. If it's not chaos, it's gene-stealers. If it's not gene-stealers, it's orks. If none of the above can be found, it's probably Tau stealth suits or something.

Either way, Sewers are a security risk.

>Sewers seem to manifest scum out of thin air for seemingly no reason at all.

He's right we should keep our eyes open for orks.
>>
>>1808670
We need to create a sewer system that tanks can move through and make them do regular cleaning runs.

Alternatively, we could try to get bunch of Ogryns tribes to go handle that shit. They go into sewers and beat up any scum they find for the Emperor and the thankful girlscouts send them free boxes of cookies.

Fun fact about abhumans, they have ridiculously low rates of chaos corruption statistically. Ogryns especially.

Several squads are quickly sent to search the tunnels and the sewer system, with large defensive posts being set up and key junctions in the sewer system, preventing Torgoth from infiltrating the cities and tainting the large stockpiles of food there, enough to feed multiple subsectors for several years....

The squads are taken from the Solar Auxilia, who wish to contribute after feeling left out of the fight at the pass, they also cite their experience in fighting in subterranean environments from the great crusade, where they brought a mining world into compliance as well as a race of underground dwelling xenos....

As they descend several squads encounter small groups of mutated humans, who seem to be primitive and fearful of your troops, their threat level minimal, it seems that they have been living down here for some time, mutated by the chemicals and growth hormones used to grow the worlds massive yields of crops....

They seem to have hollowed out several warrens and would be relatively easily to eradicate with a few flamer teams.....

A. Attempt to communicate with the mutants
B. Burn them alive, such scum do not belong in our Imperium
C. Ignore them for now and focus on hunting down Torgoth
D. Other(Write-in)

Your men attempt to communicate with the mutants and find that they speak a debased pidgin language with heavy influences of Ryazizian and common low gothic....

They describe to your men an evil man and his large warriors came through the tunnels recently and offer several of their people to serve as guides....

Within a few hours, your men slowly map the tunnels and cut off Torgoth from all avenues of escape cornering him a small section of the sewers...

Your men have him surrounded and are beginning to make their move....

Average of 66 a fair success

Sensing your men approaching, like a cornered rat, Torgoth and his plague marines decide to make a final stand in the sewers....

The fight is costly, with the wide underground tunnels providing little cover from the accurate hail of bolter fire coming from the Plague marines, your men are courageous though, as they press their advance, despite losing several man, taking down the plague marines with concentrated accurate fire from their advanced lasrifles, once again demonstrating how diciplined non-augmented human infantry that stand their ground can defeat even powerful foes, albeit at great cost with over 50 casualties, including several deaths when a Plague marine unexpectedly charged, and battled several Auxilia in melee combat, who like their Void hoplite forebearers of Saturn's were eventually able to use teamwork to overcome the foe....

Torgoth himself is slain by the massive Auxilia Primus Jarg Tarsonius, a well known veteran sharpshooter, who is large enough that he uses a modified lascannon as a sniper rifle....

Taking advantage of the distraction of his squads attack, he kneels down, over two thousand feet away down the tunnel, and after taking several moments to draw a bead on the sorceror, fires a single shot, striking the Sorceror in upper right shoulder, unfortunately , just before impact, the shot is blocked by some sort of shield, giving the Sorceror a moment to cast several arcane death bolts, striking down several more Auxilia, another dark incantation on his lips, as he sees a bright red flash in the distance, as his upper torso and head are obliterated by a second lascannon shot.....

With the dark Sorceror now slain, his remaining Plague Marines go down relatively easily to massed fire from Auxilia troops....

>>1813358
Now that the Nurglites threat has been eliminated there is a pressing issue matter to worry about....

The Separatists have reformed their battle lines, and seem poised to possibly rush our positions, but have yet to fire artillery or do anything to break our temporary ceasefire...

Your commanders believe we can defeat them, given our orbital supremacy and superior numbers, but they have a large number of elite troops and heavy equipment and such a battle will likely be costly for our men.....

A. Launch an unexpected lightning strike on the separatists
B. Sneak a force behind them through the sewer system and attempt to wipe them out
C. Attempt to negotiate with Separatists, perhaps we can convince them to leave home to their newly independent home in peace and avoid a fight
D. Other(Write-in)

Be advised that the knowledge that you made a deal with the Separatists, will negatively impact your relations with the Inquisition and loyalist forces, and put us a small step towards pursuing independence...
>>
>>1813440
Yeah, but we have like bonus to charisma or something right?

I was thinking of arguing that it would have costs mor lyalists lives, and negativly impacted food production in the sector causing millions to starve to death. A death toll far exceeding what it would cost in just military forces alone if we fought them on a separatist home world that we can bomb or ask for a exterminatus.

I'm willing to hear out the other anons thoughts on this.
>>
>>1813460
Plus we can argue that this way we secure the planet without indefinitely against any concerns for future uprisings or take overs from within, and ensures the planets population will stay firmly with the Imperium since all the traitors have been removed.
>>
>>1813368
>C

Be honorable about this. Pull our forces back and state the local bugle forces were dealt with and then give a heads up to resume fighting. Then strike from the sewaers

Don't trust a traitor and we don't have the food or supplies
>>
>>1813368

D. Other(Write-in)
How about for now, we tell them lay down their arms and rejoin the Imperium, with their help in battling chaos forces as penance for their disloyalty. Also offer that afterwards, soldiers that get discharged are free to leave to wherever the want to go.

This way it gives them a wink wink nudge nudge "out" if they want to run off somewhere and join a separatists movement without us getting in as much trouble for it...
>>
>>1813480
>Don't trust a traitor and we don't have the food or supplies

I had to read this a few times. Are you saying a we need to trust them to strike a deal, so we get the food production and supplies this planet would offer? Or are you saying don't trust them at all and wipe them out so we gain the food supplies of the planet, because we can't trust them to make good on striking a deal with them?
>>
>>1813368
Adding to this >>1813480 offer them to return before the fight. They know we are chill and if they don't well we gave them there 1 chance at surrender

>>1813494
Normally once a traitor always a traitor. If they are willing to throw up arms now then they might be later on. That's a major issue in the current setting/sitting.
>>
>>1813499
>That's a major issue in the current setting/sitting.

Along with things like free will and self determination. Most of the guys probably fight on since they don't really have any choice, or won't be given any chances not to, in no small part due to guilt by mere presence or association.

also did you mean to put D for write in here>>1813480? If not I guess we are doing a hybrid of C+D write in?
>>
>>1813508
Yup and hey, we gave them a chance go surrender. If they refuse so be it
>>
Do we know who's the ruler of the plant? Or is it going to fall under our domain?

We should make sure to burn any and all corpses for the next decade, and slash and burn all fields that were fought over against nurgle forces. Flush the sewers afterwards when the separatists are dealt with.

>>1813440
shmeh, can we have some interactions with our brother? I want to try and make him useful like our sister is, hopefully hes shaped up and improved enough to manage a planet.
>>
>>1813568
The rule was slain during the uprising when Local Ryazinian defense forces killed him with an assassin inside his command center, one of the main planetary officers, pulled out his pistol and shot the governor in the back of the head, disorganizing the governments response to the popular arising, supported by the rebel Veldstatan forces

Yea we can check up on him, once the situation on Ryazin has been resolved
>>
>>1813481
>>1813499
>>1813460
You have allow the detached Separatists to return to their lines and give them demanding their unconditional surrender, with the possibility of seeing amnesty due to their fight against the nurglite horde(unlikely, even with a pragmatic radical Inquisitor Lord in charge, their likely best sentence will be life in the labor camps or death in the penal legions at least until the Separatists are defeated, if they aren't summarily executed for their betrayal of course....)

The Separatists make a suprisingly bold counter offer, a temporary armistice, for 1 month, along with safe passage offworld for the Veldstatan rebel forces and any Ryazinian separatists and civilians that decide to join them...

They also demand to keep all weapons, equipment and supplies but 20% of the worlds foodstocks, a massive surplus for the Moderately populated former Imperial world.....

They claim a mighty battlegroup is coming with ships from Veldstatan and several warships from the Federated States of Man, to relieve the beleagured forces of the Separatists....

A. The risk of losing our planetary defense ships is too high, we should take this deal, and spare our forces from being spent on a needless battle
B. The Separatists are lying! Crush them!
C. Give them one last chance to surrender, perhaps they can be spared...
D. Renegotiate the offer from the Separatists....
E. Other(Write-in)

>20% of the food but none of the weapons and armor.

Or

>0% of the food and the weapons and armor they can keep.

Both go with safe passage. Also send out a message to high command a possible battleship of the enemy is coming. Might be great to hit them via bait
