You are just an average guy. You have just woken up from your eight hours of sleep, and you're ready to start your day! What will you do?

You're stuck in a large tank, and you don't remember anything before getting here. You've heard voices say that believe that the sedatives they have been pumping into you are keeping you asleep. They're wrong. However, for the time being, you'll keep on feinting being unconscious.

You're aware that the left side of your body feels very strange. It's a "blob" of a sort. In the last few days, they have been "feeding" it, by giving it live animals. During the few spare moments you have when nobody seems to be around, you have discovered that you can voluntarily transform this "blob" into body parts of the animals it has absorbed.

You want to escape. You want freedom. When an opportunity comes, you will try to make a break for it. Until then, you practiced "morphing" your blob half.

Echoes sound across the caverns of the Upperdark reach across the ruins of a great kingdom. The once great kobold empire of Drakka has been razed to the ground, leaving nothing left but the empty husk of a dragon that housed its numerous people. The caverns are dark and treacherous for the small kobolds that skitter around them trying to carve out a living; hunted out by spiders and strange beings that shift in the dark.

One small cave is the only hope the kobolds have left for rebuilding their home, led by a tinkerer and toymaker by the name of Criproghad. Recently the kobolds have united with another group of refugees held up in a loamy cave by a fishing pond, and have formed an alliance with the only other survivors they’ve found. Voices sound through the tunnels as a hymnal is sung, symbolizing the agreement of the two settlements in mutual protection. For the first time, hope is gleaming in the eyes of the kobolds, as they sing in harmony:

Light our friend, we trust the light
Light keeps the dark away, dark consumes us all
Trust in light, light comes back for us
Light leave us not to be consumed by dark

You are working a shitty job, just out of college and it's a Friday night. You go home to your pet dog, your parents allowed you to take it with you your freshman year and now it lives with you. After grabbing a beer from the fridge you settle down onto your bed and turn on the computer, TV and your video game system, and your dog lies down at your feet and curls up as always.

One of those adventure games, with tons of weapons, lots of inter-character dialogue and quests to carry out. Without knowing too many people being new at the office, there's not much else to do anyway. After you finish the tutorial, it's time to pick a side, one of three. The first and most obvious choice is a renegade group tackling a big boogie that seems to be harming their way of life, ideals. It's apparent some of the members are only there for the money, but there are others like in any organization who genuinely care about the outcome of their actions therein.

There is another option, though it largely infers to be mostly you working alone for your own benefit, but after browsing around on the game's wiki you decide that since that faction allows the most leeway and gear possible, you choose them. With your dog now asleep at the foot of your bed you trudge off in the doldrums of single life, and into the fantasy world.

You are, suffice to a say, a complete NEET. Your life for the past nine years, since you entered high school, has more or less been shitposting on 4chan. You scraped by, graduating high school at the bottom of your class, and you were about to enter the work force when the winds of fortune smiled upon you. Your grandfather died and you received a sizable sum of money from his passing. You rented a cheap apartment, set up a computer and internet access, and then stayed inside for weeks at a time surfing 4chan and ordering supplies from Amazon. You never paid attention to your spending as you were assured that the money was being invested well and that you were only using the profits. This was your first mistake. Your second was not noticing that all of the investments had hit rock bottom and that you were burning through the last of your cash. After this, you failed to pay all of your bills without noticing, and your computer has shut off on you, the only thing left on being a battery-powered light hanging from the ceiling. You possess no practical skills besides those acquired from nine years of shitposting on your favorite boards, and no way to earn money.
