Welcome to Bunkerville.
It looks like The Commies really got us this time, guys. We've been shuffled off into a vault of exactly 300 individuals, and can now live out or lives underground as peacefully as one could imagine.
The only issue is that disaster has already struck.
Only a few years into Bunkerville's operation, The Mayor has wound up dead with no proper successor or any formal rules on how new mayors should be elected.
In this, Bunkervile has decided it will follow the old American Tradition of DEMOCRACY!

At the end of every third turn, a party will be selected as the new governing group and be given control of The Mayor's Office.

Turns:
Every turn a party may take up two actions, they can each be one of the following, but each action can only be taken once.

-Occupy Room: Each room takes 2 Party Members to occupy and operate. If a party occupies a room, they can control who gets its services, and who can pass through. If a Party doesn't have enough members, or can't reach the room from their department, they lose control of the room. A Party can occupy any room they can reach without passing through another Party's territory.
*The Mayor's Room requires no Occupation to own and operate.

-Move Department Room: Moves the base of operations for a party to another room. A Department Room can use all of its Party Members when defending, and is where all other occupied rooms must be able to reach.

-Room Sneaking: Parties can dedicate one of their turn actions to pass through one room occupied by another Party.

-Sabotage/Repair: Attempt to cease operation of a room that a Party has access to. This is a 1d100 Roll. The level of success will determine how many turns must be spent repairing for a room to function again.

-Party Recruitment: Attempt to increase a Party's numbers by recruiting members from The Public. This is a 1d100 roll.

-Propaganda: Attempt to increase Public Support for Mayor Elections. This is a 1d100 roll.

-Attack Room: A Party may try to attack an occupied room to return it to neutral territory. This is resolved by a who can get the higher out of 1d100+(Non-Occupying Party Members*Military Power)
OP will calculate the attacks and do rolls.
*If two Parties try to occupy the same room in the same turn, the winner will be determined in this same method.

-Write-In: If a Party has an idea that doesn't quite fit into one of the pre-detrmined actions, feel free to write in what you want to do and OP will do their best to make it a reality.

Why Be Mayor?:
Whoever owns The Mayor's Office can perform 3 actions instead of 2, and gain a +10 to any
1d100 roll for any action. This is representative of using The Public to assist in Party Actions.

These are the starting factions.
Jump on to any team you wish, there are no official limits to how many can be on one team, but please consider attempting to get at least one in every department.

Changing a Party's name is a free action, and can be done any turn.

Your name is Owen, a 20 year old guy and suspended student of THU. In the meantime you've gotten a job and apartment in the small coastal town of Diamond Shoals. Having been here a couple months, which as a popular tourist destination is already months more than most, you've gotten a rough feel for the town and its people.

Sunday is a day off for you, and while normally you'd head over to the community center to see about getting in on a game, this time you've got other potential obligations. A few days back you helped a local girl, Sarah, carrying a large number of groceries. You saw she lives in the service house for the lighthouse, you met one of the "women" she lives with, and to thank you for your help she invited you to help her collect sea shells for the coming sandcastle contest.

Having gotten breakfast and your morning routine out of the way, it's approaching noon and you're in your apartment above the bookstore in the closest thing to a downtown. You're wearing your usual track suit as well, just in case you want to go for a run. Without a car you'll probably be running anywhere anyway. What do you do?

>Get your shoes on and go for that run anyway, might as well get some exercise in before anything.
>Head on over to Sarah's house, see about helping with her request.
>Head down to the community center anyway, sea shells can wait and you'd have more fun playing dodge ball or something like that.

"Black Hearts. Cold Steel. Dark Deeds."

These are the words of the Black Company, the infamous band of mercenaries that has been on one side or the other of every major conflict on the continent since its founding.
The Company has seldom cared who they fight for or the cause so long as they are paid, and paid well, when the killing work is done. Though they may be considered by some to be little more than glorified brigands, it cannot be said that the Black Company is not good at what they do.

Recently the Company has taken up a contract with a new employer, one more powerful than any that have come before. An employer with endless ambition, as well as the means and lack of moral scruples needed to pursue it. An employer that pays well...

Eeey QM, I've been meaning to see ya on. Your quest seriously inspired me to get off my ass and run a quest after a year and a half off the radar. Since your quest wasn't as Black Company, I decided to run something a little closer to the books without actually being called Black Company. Being a massive 16th century fan, I couldn't help but lean more heavily towards that as well. It was a time of mercenaries after all. Anyways I hope to enjoy your game just like anyone else, here's a link to mine.

Well...actually...
Maybe it was vodka your mother gave to you...

You came home from school one day, weeks after the funeral. Of course you were in no means chipper, but between the two of you...

Your mother was beyond a wreck.

It was often that she would be laying about somewhere in the house, nursing a hangover back into inebriation. The routine would always be you would come home, go to your room, work on homework, get some food, and then stay in your room till morning.

One afternoon was different though. You were heading to your room when the half conscious voice of your mother called you back. You crept back to where she was, peering into the bedroom.

Photos of your father were surrounding where she sat on the floor, among the empty bottles. Many of the photos had ripped up, burnt, or just plain scribbled out. She hated him and missed him...

"'-lilah..." Her voice was wavering and she couldn't even form one whole word. Out stretched in her hand was a bottle...tall and clear. It was fancy looking, gold print up and down the side. The words looked foreign and you couldn't really tell what they said.

"Yes mom?" You didn't know what it was she wanted, but she gestured for you to take the bottle out of her hands. Maybe she had enough? It felt so heavy in your young hands, but the look your mother gave you confused you. She picked up another bottle at her side and raised it up.

"To my...-hic-...terrible...-hic-...beautiful...-hic-...de-ad....husband..." She put her bottle and began to drink away. You've seen toasts on TV before...she wanted you to drink...right?

You put the bottle to your lips and take the first drink like you would juice.

It burnt like fire. The taste overpowered everything, you dropped the bottle and threw up. Your mother took no attention so you ran back to your room.

She probably was trying to share a moment with you in her own messed up way...

...

You realize it has probably been enough time now. Letting Buttercup run off, you stand up, smoothing out your skirt. Bottle in hand, you go to the classroom.

Inside, you see that all the chairs are shoved against the wall...except for two. Lawrence isn't in there yet so you take one of the seats.

It's only a little bit of time before Lawrence comes in, his arms full. You watch as he sets down each thing.

There's one of the big lights, a metallic box that says something about colored pencils, a small radio, and a large drawing board with an equally as large white paper attached to it.

Is...is your picture really going to be that big?...

What do you talk to Lawrence about while he sets up?

THE THEFT OF LAUGHTER

The Mother Aruset fled from her husband's wrath into the wilderness, fearing for the lives of her three sons. To protect them, she hid each where the Creator's passing eye would not pass. Tyg, the mightiest, she hid beneath a great stone. Kor, the most cunning, she painted with mud and hid amongst the wild tribes. And Cael, the fairest, she placed in the darkness of a hole in the earth.

Tyg, as he held up the stone which would crush him, became strong. Kor, as he learned the hunt, became swift. But Cael was only alone, and only afraid.

As Cael lay in the darkness waiting for his mother to return, a voice came to his mind with the drawn hiss of the serpent.

"What is this broad creature which has crawled into my nest?" the serpent asked, because to her man was an absurdly broad creature. "I will bite, and my venom will kill you."

Cael, in his brilliance, spoke back to the darkness around him. "I have stumbled into your home unwelcome, and deserve to be bitten. But in place of my life, let me instead offer you my words, that you like man might have speech."

The serpent pondered Cael's offer, for his words were quick and like honey. "Your words for my nest. A deal is struck."

And so for two summers while Cael hid from his father, he spoke his words to the serpent, and taught her to speak as he. And in return, the serpent left her nest and found a new place for her eggs. Content, she spoke to herself as she sought prey on the plain.

"What are these sounds I hear, but the voice of man on the plain?" The painted dog had heard the serpent's soliloquy, and followed it. "How is it the serpent has taken the power of speech? Have you eaten a man?"

"No, dog," the serpent said proudly, drawing to her full height. "If I had eaten him, I would have only taken his last words. Instead, I have bartered all of his words for a mere hole in the earth. Now my eggs are laid, and my children also will have his speech. As the ages pass, they too shall have the power of men and their father."

"But serpent, if your children speak as men, will they not also be as broad?"

At this the serpent threw her head back in laughter, for to her men were absurdly broad creatures. Without warning the painted dog lunged, and bit her exposed neck before the serpent could strike. He ate her, and after so doing laughed as well...

>Voting

Most posts will be narrative, with the player and QM working together to create a worthy story. Every post will provide at least one might-based, nobility-based, and artifice-based avenue if applicable to the situation, and write-ins are both permitted and encouraged. Players vote for their preferred option, with majority determining the final choice. However, in the case of especially critical events, called “trials,” fate will be given its due through the roll of dice.

>Trials

During trials, after the majority have chosen a course of action, the QM will then roll 1d10, add the player’s relevant Aspect (Might, Nobility, or Artifice), and add any relevant bonuses from items or context. If the resulting sum meets the trial’s threshold, the player succeeds. If the sum falls short of the threshold, the player fails. For each margin of 3 the player exceeds or fails the threshold by, the outcome will be more severe (either positive or negative). Poor rolls by players in combat trials are assigned as enemy hits.

The thresholds for each trial are known only by the QM, and are different for every option. Depending on the situation, one option or another will probably be easier than the others. Sneaking past the elite palace guard will be easier than fighting all of them. Killing the feral tribe of cannibals is probably easier than talking them down diplomatically. This could change, of course, if the player is particularly proficient with one Aspect and deficient in another. Perhaps your Artifice is so bad that Might is the better option for getting past those palace guard, after all. Players should consider which approach is most likely to succeed given both the context of the trial and the character’s own skillset.

>Criticals

A trial roll of 10 that passes the threshold is a critical success, and reaps additional benefits. Conversely, a 1 that fails the threshold is a critical failure, and has additional consequences. A 10 that fails to beat the threshold still fails, but the player receives some accommodation, insight, or unforeseen benefit in the attempt. Likewise, a 1 that passes the threshold succeeds, but with a minor hiccup or unforeseen complication.

>Damage
Damage dealt by an enemy is equal to half its Might score (rounding down), and is applied to a character’s weapons and armor first. Once all weapons and armor are damaged, excess damage is assigned to a random Aspect (M, N, or A) by rolling 1d3. That Aspect is permanently reduced by this damage until it is repurchased with XP. Should any Aspect reach 0, the character is crippled and incapacitated until 1 week of medical attention restores the first dot of each Aspect. If any Aspect falls below 0, the character suffers death.

The fable pours from your memory like water from a burst dam. It is the first complete recollection you have had since awakening in the tomb, blessed hope that perhaps all of your memories are not lost to you forever. This woman and her three sons – their story had been imprinted in your memory so deeply that even the embrace of death was not enough to wipe them away completely. Your eyes linger on the statue’s eroded features, familiar to you even rendered in stone.

“Aruset,” you say her name.

“Yes, I remember, as well,” Kirari says beside you. “Kor, her second son – he was the father of our tribe.” She steps forward and places a hand on the stone woman’s cheek, almost reverent as she struggles to recall more.

Dorje seems less convinced. “I remember this fable, but I remembering it being just that: a fable. It does not help us learn why we were buried under that monastery, or who killed us, or why they did.”

Just a fable? Probably. Your eyes pass over Kirari and the statue opposite her, noting the similarities in their features. Your thoughts turn to the four-legged shadow.

--------------------

>Tell your kindred about the shadow you saw in the tomb and in the sand
>Keep that to yourself for now, you don’t know what that was
>Discuss something else (write-in)
>Stay a day or two, recuperate more before travelling again

>Divide the party. Let Dorje rest here with Kirari while you find medicine youself.

Dangan Ronpa Quest.jpg

Hello one and all, and welcome to Dangan Ronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc Quest. A quest inspired by the incredibly weeaboo series Dangan Ronpa. You like killing games like Battle Royale? You like Murder Mysteries? You just might enjoy this quest! (I make no guarantees though.) This quest is set at the prestigious Yggdrasil Academy International, where a mysterious set of circumstances unfold. This'll be the first session on /qst/.

Yggdrasil Academy is a prestigious boarding school catering to a specific set of secondary school students gathered from four countries: The United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and the United States. There are two main entry requirements for this academy. One, students must already be attending secondary school, and be at least 16 years of age. Two, students must be the absolute best at a specific talent out of the combined student body of the four countries listed above. There is no way to apply to Yggdrasil Academy. The only way in is for the school itself to scout you. Because all students attending the academy have something they specifically are the absolute best at, they are referred to by a specific title.

Omegas.

As they're the complete end-point when it comes to students in pursuit of that talent, it's only fitting to call these end-points of talent Omegas. After all, there's no surpassing an Omega.

Our Protagonist, Zachary Lineman, is the Omega Actor. Having spent the last three days together with his fellow class of Omegas under the watchful under the mysterious teddy bear known as Monokuma, Zachary has gotten to know his fellow students a bit better.

“ETA?”

“Four-point-six-ee minus nine,” Wei answers.

You lift your eyes from the plotting screen to glance at your XO without raising your head. He returns your look with a happy, contented smile, the very image of a competent, eager-to-please officer.

You clear your throat, and pick your words carefully. “The actual fuck?”

He gives you an innocent look. “You don't know scientific notation?”

You do, in fact, know scientific notation. What is lacking at this juncture is a single rusty fuck to give for your XO's antics. “Notating what?

“The heat death of the Sun,” he illustrates. “About four-point-six billion years. Roughly.”

You let your head dangle limply, leaning your weight on the old map table where your tablet computer is resting. “That bad?”

“It is,” he confirms. “Six hours at twelve knots, any way you dice it. Any faster and we're cavitating. May as well-”

“-blow an air-horn in an auditorium,” you sigh. “Yeah. And if we go deep-”

“Electrics last a little over an hour,” he says, “at flank.”

“And the combination-”

He taps his own tablet once, then hands it over to you for perusal. You glower at the faint glow of the LCD as you flick through several course profiles, combination shallow-snorkling with deep running on electrics, and either one has you several hours behind schedule, or lighting up every hydrophone in ten miles.

“Damn them to hell,” you mutter.

“Well, there is one option,” Wei says innocently.

You slide a sidelong squint at him, knowing what's coming, but curious despite yourself.

“We could surface and rig a sail-” He dances away as you swipe at him with the flat side of your tablet. “Go find something to sweep, you jackass.”

“Aye, Cap'n Ying!” he declares, snapping you a crisp, overdone salute to put any overzealous chick fresh out of OCS to shame. He spins on his heel and stork-walks out of the control room.

You sigh, rubbing your eyes, but smiling despite yourself. You envy Wei's sense of humor, or rather, its durability. It's a vital quality for anyone on a Ming G boat. They're old tubs, and not well built to begin with - number 361 killed her own crew. Your crew stays suspicious of their own boat, day in and out, eyeballing every rust spot and jittery gauge with a cautious eye. And it's all for nothing, or close to it - the Mings (and their skippers) are called “speed bumps” on the newer boats, and everyone knows it's true.

Or was.

But even if you score merit in this old tug, you'll still have to navigate Party politics, and right now you'd as soon torpedo the damned tender as meet it - because The Party wants you north of Sunda Straight to meet it in exactly four hours, and they want you to do it without notifying AESAN, or tipping your hand to them. The former rather mandates the latter, as they won't be shy about dumping depth charges on anything making noise underwater.
And Mings are noisy.

You kick the base of the periscope mast gently, grumbling to yourself. Wei's crack about rigging a sail is sounding better and better.

[ ] It's foggy as hell out there. Run on the surface, run as loud as you want, and simulate some radio traffic like you're a fishing boat or a merchant. Shave some time off the transit.
[ ] Just stick with the snorkel, and run just under cavitation speed. You'll probably be heard in the shallows anyways, and the sooner you surface to fire recognition flares, the sooner the AESAN patrols will take their fingers off the trigger.
[ ] Half is better than nothing. Run slow to avoid detection. The damn tender can wait.
