As you follow Gerald back to your living quarters, you more closely examine your body and the changes that it has undergone. Your new "tail" seems to be moderately under your control, although it also seems fairly interested in surroundings as well. You wish you could be as naive. Your hair seems to have fallen out, your ears have become pointed like some sort of elf, and your teeth have become noticeably sharper. Gerald stops abruptly at your room. You open up the door, and through the doorway he notices that the broken lamp and shredded sheets.
"I'll send someone to replace those for you soon. Dinner will be in a few hours, it will be down the hall, to the right, and through the double doors on the the left." You grunt in response, and shut the door on him. You hear his foot steps as he walks away. Laying down on the bed, you consider your options.
>Take a nap (skip to dinnertime)
>Explore the manor
>Wait for someone to bring you the sheets and lamp
>Go to the bathroom and check yourself in a mirror

Scenario Five wasn’t supposed to happen. The Sovereign Colonies had taken every precaution with this expedition. They had double-checked and triple-checked containment procedures - nothing could get off this icy wasteland of a planet. But as you reread the message in the cold light of your RIG, reality starts to sink in.

F: CPT J. SUZUKI
T: CPL S. ACKERMAN, SPC B. LANGLEY
S: SCAF-ISC-31503 MACREADY STATION 01:32 [16 JUNE 2314]

SCENARIO FIVE HAS BEEN DECLARED. THIS IS NOT A DRILL.
INFORM DOCTOR CAIDEN AND HIS TEAM THAT THEIR RESEARCH DUTIES ARE TERMINATED AND ALL DATA MUST BE SCRUBBED IMMEDIATELY.
MAINTAIN PERIMETER SECURITY DETAIL. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CONTACT THE FLEET. A TEAM WILL ARRIVE AT 0700 TO RELIEVE YOU.

DEUS ENIM ET COLONIAE

Two weeks ago, you were transferred from your team to a skeleton security crew. Your orders were to oversee the protection of the Macready deep-research station and its personnel: Doctor Caiden and his two assistants, Mahad and Eliza. You’ve been isolated from the rest of the Tau Volantis excavation projects, but maybe that was for the better.

You know this much: something has happened at the Colony Dig Site. The radio-waves have gone dead silent, and nobody is responding to hails. Before today, you’d heard rumors of soldiers on their patrols turning up dead, and their casks sent back up to the orbiting flotilla for cremation. No explanation ever came then, other than regular bullshit about Tau Volantis' harsh environment. But this is different; this is real. Scenario Five is reserved for the unthinkable: a complete biological contamination of the Tau Volantis expedition.

You run down the hall to the locker rooms. You're going to need your Suit and weapon. But first, you need to open the locker door with your name on it.

Are you male (Corporal Sam Ackerman) or female (Specialist Barbara Langley)?
First five responses are considered. Similar choices chosen, some may be combined. No restriction on actions taken, rolls are highest of three with crits.

Renixizious awoke from his great slumber, with one his concubine beside him, Vilida, was her name. She laid beside you, her smooth red scales brushing up against you, the mighty draconic overlord of Sweden, Norway, and Finland. You are in fact, Renoxiezius. Draconic Emperor of Holy Sweden, devourer of bolsheviks, capitalist cronies, heretics, and traitors alike. Yesterday you slew the communist traitors who threatened the Empire's stability and took many of them prisoner, which await in your dungeon for... Science.
When you awake, you find yourself without any of you servants bothering you. It seems you have a free morning.

Congratulations on becoming a low-ranking officer in the war! Right now, you'll only be in charge of six people.

The enemy has command over the river line. We've got a small encampment on the west side of Novice Street, but there are likely many enemies already there. Take out their base at the start of the bridge, and await further orders.

Don't worry, you're safely commanding them via radio a mile away. You're not in real danger, but that also means you only have as much information as your people on the field can gather.

I'm sure you'll get the hang of it in no time. Good luck out there.

On your turn, you have 5 commands. You can tell a target to move, and to take one of their possible actions (at any time before, during, or after their movement). This will usually be shooting a target, grenading, or healing.

Units may shoot at any target they can see, but if the target is behind cover or outside the unit's listed threat range, they'll do so with a penalty. Multiple penalties do stack.

- Scouts have good motion and range, and they're trained well enough in their rifles to have high accuracy, and even sometimes headshot. Their damage is middling though.
To command them to fire their rifle, declare a target and roll 5d5.
They'll automatically begin single-shot interception fire against enemies who walk through their threat range, and will automatically counter when fired upon.

- Troopers have high offense and defense, but less mobility than scouts. They'll miss a little more often, but they're spraying so many bullets it doesn't much matter.
To command them to fire their machine-gun, declare a target and roll 10d4.
They'll automatically begin 2-shot interception fire to any enemy walking through their range, and will automatically counter when fired upon.

- Medics are weak overall, but have doubled healing, can freely give their grenades to Scouts and Troopers, and can restock nearby Snipers who are out of ammo.
To command them to fire their pistol, declare a target and roll 5d5.
They can neither intercept enemies nor counter.

- Snipers have long range, and may sometimes instantly kill targets who aren't behind cover. Their ammo is limited, though, and their defense is nil.
To command them to fire their rifle, declare a target and roll 1d5.
They won't intercept enemies who walk through their range, but will counter when fired upon.

Conditional statements are your friends:
>If you run into someone along the way, stop moving and focus on them.
>If your health goes below 5, stop everything and heal
>Etc.

You have two scouts, two troopers, a medic, and a sniper. Your current underlings and some information on them are as follows...

(First person to command them gives a name. Second person to command them can come up with their prior job before joining the military)

(Scout) Name: XXXX
Runner: +1 Movement when selected (up to max).
Coward: Refuses to enter enemy interception fire.

(Scout) Name: XXXX
Point blank: +1 to shots against targets within 1 space.
Sadist: When commanding this unit, roll 1d2. Failure: Refuses to headshot (crits become normal damage).

(Trooper): Name: XXXX
Protector: Takes damage in place of allies on the same space.

(Trooper) Name: XXXX
Jumpy: Immediately engages any new enemy he sees that is within range, ignoring other orders.

(Medic) Name: XXXX
Tenacious: Clings to life at 1HP on the first turn they would have been incapacitated (once per battle).
Asthmatic: When commanding this unit, roll 1d2. Failure: suffer -1 Movement.
*BEGINNING OF TURN 1*

>You hear some static over the radio, then a few voices quieting down.
"This is XXXX. Everyone's at the base, sir. What are your orders?"
Before you can say anything, another pipes up:
"I think I see an enemy medic just across the way. Yeah. In that little alley between the department stores."
You mark it down on your map, and begin giving issuing commands.
>>
>and the sniper arrived late because I forgot to copy-paste his traits with the others

- (Sniper) Name: XXXX
Vengeful: +1 to counterattacks.
Distracted: -1 to attacks if he shares the same space as an ally.

Units can go up to their listed "Move" in spaces with a single action. If the same unit is ordered to move again in the same turn, it is halved (rounding up).

e.g. You tell your medic to cover 5 spaces. If you give him/her a second order this turn, their max movement becomes 3 instead.

The year is 184. The golden age of the Han Dynasty has come in to decline after years of famine, plagues, and economic decline. With the Emperor considered weak and indulged in pleasure while corrupt officials take power in court, widespread rumors begin to stir that the Han has lost the mandate of heaven.

And so came the Yellow Turban Rebellion. Led by the mystical leader Zhang Jue and his brothers, revolts and rebellion broke across the land. Donning yellow scarves and attires, countless rose up like a tidal wave crashing over the land. In a panic the government called for troops and volunteers to suppress the rebellion. A time of civil war comes, with heroes across the land rising up.

You are Zheng Li, eighteen years of age. The story we follow is the course you took in this part of history. Before we start, your background:

Your clan comes from a line of... (choose one)
>peasant farmers, tilling the land under the supervision of lords
>merchants that travel the land and sell wares
>a minor noble house, unrecognized in the grand scheme of things
>half-Han, half-steppe barbarian from the north

As a young boy you... (choose one)
>led a group of youths on daring adventures
>studied martial arts under the tutelage of a master
>read the books of history
>learned governmental affairs and politics
>woo'd women and stole the hearts of many

As a young man, you now dream of... (choose one)
>obtaining personal fame and glory
>amassing the greatest wealth possible
>establishing a great clan and furthering your family name
>nothing much, you just wish to enjoy life

This quest is an RPG-styled game following the Three Kingdoms period of China and the novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms by Luo Guangzhong. You play as a fictional character following through the events of the Three Kingdoms and hopefully rising to become an important player of with the famous figures. You will start off as a no-name, average character who can rise up through effort. Most of the characters and story will follow the events of the novel first, history second, the RoTK games third, and only a very small part will come from the Dynasty Warriors games (Mostly character personalities if suitable).

The goal of the game is to create an interesting story more so than win. While this game will not be harsh, mistakes and carelessness may result in the loss of your faction and even the death of your character. Sometimes circumstances may be unfair as not even Zhuge Liang could not save his kingdom after Shu lost Jing province. Still, thinking and common sense should get you through. Whatever the case, my goal is to hopefully see you create an interesting story more than conquering the entirety of China.

You are Subject 108, a.k.a. Whirlpool. You are equipped with state-of-the-art technologies from a reclusive civilization that has mastered spatial distortion. You tend to suffer occasional lapses in memory, emotion and judgement from shifting hormonal imbalances since birth. You have been sent to the feral planet known as Cymbio IV for a simple task: fetching water, but you are sidetracked by an adventure of your own making.

>Twitter: @guardtemp
>Notice: You can roll 1d6 to influence your current situation akin to Roll to Dodge. Use when necessary.

You return to the tribe you met earlier in the day and retrieve your PORTHOLE. Inside their settlement, you had a somewhat formal introduction with certain individuals and learn of their origins. They are apparently descendants of scientists who were exiled from their own laboratory complex by an unknown faction. You then attend a meeting by the tribe's leader about the group's next plan of action. After which you then test an unusued ability concerning your suit.

Pretty much so.

>>213098
Assuming that you might turn into a beefy mech, you tell Errai to walk with you outside. You stand still for a few moments, trying to actually get your suit to work. Suddenly SPATIAL DISTORTION or whatever technology you have kicks in and your suit transforms into something more armored. Errai is audibly impressed.

>"Gracious, that is some marvelous technology you have. You bear a faint resemblance to a squid though, a motif perhaps?"

You're pretty sure the mythological Kraken is an octopus and not a squid. Your three "fingers" are tendrils that can converge into a single, powerful drill. You're not sure if you look awesome or not but if you have a mirror you can admire your appearance or come up with revisions.

KRAKEN'S BEAK is taxing on the suit's power, this clearly isn't something to be used for extended periods of time. You turn back to normal and return your HARPOON back to your INVENTORY.

Using her statement as a tangent, you decide on simply giving her a compliment. You tell her that it isn't the technology that makes a person great, but the virtue and beauty of the person who bears it. It sounds cheesy but you're sure it will work on someone completely detached from pop culture.

It does.

The talks with the Han and Romans have begun.

They arrive in the Golden Halls of the imperial Palace.
The Romans are fascinated by such beauty and complexity.
The Han try to hide their surprise, unwilling to admit humility.

Both seem oddly fond of each other, the Han have dubbed the Romans Da Qin - as sort of anti Middle Kingdom, who are opoosites yet equals.
Though, they're not quite sure what to make of us.
Both Romans and Han are quick to express the lack of culture in our people, yet the Romans admire how much more civilized we are than them.

These mixed messages, make it unclear what exactly they think of us, which makes negotiations a little bit more complicated.

For weeks the Emperor and the Consul have done nothing but exchange pleasantries with the Sarsarrum and each other.

After a whole 4 months of negotiating however, the talks finally came to a conclusion.

The trade route that has been connecting our 3 great Empires for decades, is to be formalized.
Merchants are tasked with showing us where to set up supply camps , while each Empire has to guarantee the safety of Merchants in their respective section of the road.

Each of our Empires has 1 trading good the others don't - which makes the Silkroad valuable to everyone involved.

The Han offer Silk : a soft material of incredible value, used for clothing

The Romans offer Glass : a transparent but weak building material, used to let sunlight get into buildings

We offer Carpets : tapestry of wool and flax, with fancy ornaments, a unique sort of beauty

Additionally, we have convinced the Romans and Han to - at the very least - share their Historical records and cultural works with us, for us to gather them in our Great libraries.
They were not willing to share any other knowledge with us, as that would undermine their unique Advantages they have over us.

The Han and Romans return home, and we begin working on our part of the Silkroad immediately.

What are we to do next?

In terms of expansion, expand into Central Asia and the Caucasus, but I think we should rather focus on developing our army, culture, and technology. I think we should still be weary with Rome despite the agreement.

Resting a hand on your friend's shoulder, you offer a winning smile. “Now then, as for the terms of our agreement. Profectus, I have a very special request for you. I want you to get on your knees-”

He interrupts, taking a few steps back to separate himself from you and holding up his hands in mock surrender. “Hey now, Mik we've been over this already. I don't swing that way. I'm not here to judge you if that's what you're into, but I'm not going to be a part of it.”

You forge ahead, tone and expression equally serious. “-and beg Mortia to teach you what she knows of Nature magic. We're going into Elaudia, and I'll not have the two of you unprepared for what challenges lie ahead. I don't care what you have to do, so long as she agrees.”

Profectus sighs in obviously exaggerated relief, wiping a hand across his brow. “Thank the Gods, you had me worried there for a second Mik. Both task of somewhat tedious and demeaning, but at least I won't have to drown my shame in a skin of wine after meditating.”

You suppose now he'll be drowning himself in place of his shame. “Once you feel that you've made some headway, you should spend some time reading. I assume you still have unread books worth reading?”

He nods his head, scratching at his chin contemplatively. “Yeah, I've got books worth reading. I suppose I should probably finish off that Five Effects book stored in the archeota, or start reading that book on Water magic. Although, speaking of meditation there's something I've been meaning to ask. Achieving Grandmastery of an element requires that I perform some impossible final task, yeah? A grand meditation on the nature of the universe or what have you.”

“Do you feel that you're ready to undertake such a meditation?” Truthfully you were wondering when he'd ask about this, you knew he was growing close to perfecting his skill in Fire magic but weren't sure precisely how close he was.

Profectus runs a finger along the surface of his left arm. The black stone which covered it when you first pried him from that metallic pod has been stripped away to reveal the carved white marble beneath, and at the touch of his finger it splits apart to reveal the molten rock boiling just beneath the surface. “I think I'm as ready as I'll ever be. My recent meditations haven't really been making any headway, and I read about a pretty interesting technique in that Breaking the Ninth Barrier book you gave me. Weird book, incidentally.”

Profectus' Arm.jpg
193KB, 1000x874px
“It sounds really simply in theory.” The cracks on his arm seal themselves rapidly, the marble once again flawless. “The book talks a lot about how Fire magic is just harnessing the raw power of the soul and turning it towards either constructive or destructive purposes, and it really stresses that Fire magic isn't just for wanton destruction. So this method is sort of like a symphysis of those two ideas. Basically it ask that the practitioner channel Fire magic into their soul whilst deep within a meditative trance, but I tried doing so and I just ended up forgetting where I was for a while.”

“The book claims that when it's done properly one can temporarily elevate themselves to...” He waves a hand searchingly through the air. “Well, the word it used was daemotita, which I think was a word of the author's invention. If I'm not mistaken it derives from the Old Dwoveth word for a spirit, daemon, slapped together with the suffix for an abstract noun. Frankly, I'm not really sure how to define it in Rhynian. The description of it kinda reminds me of Fulvia's weird little pocket reality she can drag people into, but on a smaller scale.”

“Apparently it's a pretty dangerous process, you run the risk of destroying your soul completely. Seems like it might be a worthwhile meditation for when I eventually attempt Grandmastery. I thought to ask you about it, since I'm sure you're better versed in the nature of the soul than I am.”

You're a little caught off guard, this is probably the most you've heard Profectus talk about something substantive since you met him. Indeed, he's been acting a little odd lately in general. Perhaps his encounter with Spice had a greater effect upon his personality than you'd initially suspected.

>Suggest that he cease all experimentation for now, since it is so dangerous.
>Explain the layers of the soul, perhaps he ought to try channeling into his Shell or even into the Shard directly.
>Ask him to fetch that book for you, so you can read it before offering any sort of advice.
>Write-in

(Note: I've made some updates to the Companions pastebin. Generally seeking to quantify a lot of your companion's traits, gear, and the status on the books in their inventory. Not really finished, but good enough for now.)

You wake up to the sound of a car honking incessantly. You're lying in the middle of the road, and can't even remember your own name, let alone where you are or how you got here. You crawl off to the sidewalk and the cars drive off into the distance, only seeming mildly annoyed. Nobody around you seems especially shocked or concerned with you.

Your first thought is to find out where you are, who you are, and then to find some money and an airport to take you home.

What do you do?

You are Hank Dalton. Last time on The Last Grease Monkey you:
>picked up a couple sweet guns: a MAC-10 and an M97 Trench Gun modified to fire slugs
>met Zoe, Jim's backup driver, and went out with her in the wrecker to pick up the Shitwagon (77-79 Mercury Cougar station wagon)

----------

Zoe takes the offramp cautiously and idles into the lot, one hand on her Grease Gun. Someone has definitely been here. The wagon is still here, but all the windows on the driver side have been smashed. Looks like whoever was here was expecting a better prize than a shitty station wagon with a blown head gasket and got a little pissed off. She circles the gas station, you don't before pulling up in front of the Shitwagon.

“Get out and watch my back, I'm not dying over this shitheap.”

You nod and exit the truck, MAC-10 in hand, shotgun over your shoulder and alternately scan the offramps and the boarded up windows of the gas station as Zoe backs up and lowers the tow hook.

Suddenly through a hole in one of the gas station’s boarded up windows you make out something moving.
