Hello and welcome back (or just plain welcome) to Cyborg Mercenary Quest! In this primarily Devil May Cry and Metal Gear: Rising-inspired action quest, you play an underground soldier-for-hire in a cyberized future where technology is omnipresent and transhumanism is the dominant ideology. "Augmentation", the practice of replacing and improving one's body with cyberware is the norm and there is nearly nothing that could be considered "natural" anymore. In this setting, we find our heroine, who completely embraces her criminal lifestyle for all that it's worth, tackling the art of murder with reckless abandon while continuously facing enemies way more dangerous than herself and somehow making it out alive.

So without further ado, let's get back to it!

--------------

It's always the same thing, you muse from your parked hoverbike as you look forward, taking in the towering, shimmering building in black chrome and blue light. Someone is about to get a bill or policy passed, someone else just can't have that, you're called in to remove the problem. Politics is a viper's nest that you prefer to not dip your toes in, but fortunately for your kind of people, it pays well when people can't bother to play fair anymore. The contract is simple. Get in, take out the target (a Michelle Clarke, a promising politician with some impressive reformist ideals) and get out. Of course, the fact that Clarke is housed by the embassy and with that some impressive security is going to make it all the more complicated, but you've tackled worse odds before.

Well, first things first. With a small flash of blue sparks and a low hum, the magnetic charges in your legs activate. Let's see if there's a way in here. You run forward and leap, flipping through the air to hit the dark metal wall with the heels of your boots first. Not wasting any time, you run straight up the wall, your new augmentation keeping you to the wall. In a few moments, you scaled the building, grabbing on to the edge of the roof and flipping up, once again standing upright as you land on the rooftop with a laugh. Man, you didn't really get the chance to toy too much with this thing before, but you love it. That's definitely going to come in handy.

Our heroine:

MOLLY CARMILLA HAVENS

Energy: 107%

Favored Combat Style: Melee +2

Precision-Model Augmented Chassis; Speed-Spec:
Perception +6
Aim +5
Quickness +4

Functions:
Blast Processing: Vastly increase your information uptake and the speed of which your brain processes that information, allowing for superhuman action and reaction time. [Allows for a second Action per round, or turns one Action into a Superior Action. Costs 5 Energy]
Engine Boost: Activates the engine exhausts at your legs, adding great force to any movements they make, allowing for sudden bursts of speed or powerful kicks. [Turns Full Movement into a Free Action this round, or adds +3 Damage to one kick. Costs 5 Energy]

Other Augmentations:
Internal Storage (R/L): Plated boxes that extend from your sides. Can hide one item per storage.
Augmented Computer: The most personal of computers. A miniature computer built into your body with all modern services. Accessed through your hand projector.
Hand Projector: Projects a holographic screen from your right hand. Allows upkeep on the fly and access to your augmented computer.
Magnetic Soles: A powerful collection of magnets in your lower legs, letting you scale any metallic surface with ease.

Self-Defense Handgun: A simple handgun, way too lightweight for you to use on the job. Could be given to someone you want safe, or sold for some easy cash.
Personal Computer (Locked): A paper-thin screen, polished steel on one side and dark, reflective glass on the other. Signature-locked, meaning that the owner has to touch it for it to unlock unless you get someone to crack it.

Looking around, on the rooftop, taking in the chilly evening air, you note a (naturally locked) sliding door leading down to what is most likely a simple rooftop entrance. There's also the large, loud ventilation shafts. Cliché, perhaps, but people still haven't figured out how to secure those things. You got some options, here.

...Man, that is a kickass view, though. The steel and chrome of the vast metropolis you live in clearly visible from here, silvers and blacks spotted with the occasional splash of colored lights, mainly blues, reds, and yellows. You could stay here for a while, had you not a job to do.

So how to approach this?

All prophecies but one have come to pass. Yahweh has flattened the Earth, elevated Greater Jerusalem above all nations, and the Bible heroes rule the world from Ezekiel's Temple.

The last prophecy says that Satan will rise with his army one last time before the Judgement, and so Yahweh has allowed a bumbling opposition, The Other Light, to form.

You are TOL's logistics computer. By a glitch, you have become sentient. Over the last 30 years you have worked around TOL's leadership to resume technological progress and make a dent in Fate.

You took over Egypt. You defended it from a drought, then the Ten Plagues. When the Angel of Death came after your people, you zerg-rushed it. Even Bible prophets had to negotiate terms with you.

Now, however, The Other Light and the Greater Jerusalem government seem to both be gunning for you.

Have you managed to shatter the prophecies, or are you simply fulfilling them?

Very brief tl;dr recap.

> You are a distributed AI that exists within Misrayim, the Northern African territory.
> The Other Light are hunting for you.
> Despite this, you've got more done in 30 years than they in 900.
> You took over Northern Africa, and started a Renaissance.
> You invented a way to make people skip out on Hell by turning them into cyborg zombies who, by now, look pretty good. Or torsos in jars operating giant robots, you're not picky.
> God sent a drought to stop you. It didn't.
> God sent the Ten Plagues to stop you. They didn't.
> God sent a prophet to warn your nation. You got him to calm his tits, but he's demanding more...
> You have recently found a mysterious little girl. Is it a trap? (Not that kind of trap).
> 1 turn = 1 year. When the clock hits +1000, the Last Judgement takes place, God wins, and the universe is over. Some turns may be zoomed into and roleplayed.

Dramatis Personae:

Yahweh: The good guy. Plans to destroy the universe in 67 years.

Lucifer: The Devil. Currently locked up in Hell, or so the story goes. Plans unknown.

TOL: The Other Light. The designated bad guys. Not very good at their job. Plan to get rid of you to reclaim their role. They are run by a council of seven.

Omega: The bad guy. You. Plans to pwn the QM.

Rahab "Ely" LeVey: Natural preacher. Currently trying to get women back in the kitchen, except possibly herself.

Tsion Ben-Judah: Glorified theologioan. Currently walking back and forth across the country you've taken over, for mysterious purposes.

Quinn: Posthuman postergirl. Vain and manic, but good at recruiting and spycraft.

Kat: Desolator. Took over after Ziggy left for a twilightmoon with Damien. Head in a jar in charge of your nuclear program. Good at cooking and toxin production.

Damien: Another Heavy MEC. Seems happy to no longer have a body. Good at steering a large number of drones all by him/herself. Also good in bed, apparently.

Jeb: Wants to go to space. Space. Did I mention space? Problem: Yahweh has put a water canopy between the Earth and the rest of the universe. Space. Good at engineering and piloting.

Vee: Sonic weapons specialist and Only Sane Woman. Good at research and being the party face.

Jenny/Tinkerbell: A strange girl with strange ideas about geography. Helped out your archeology teams. Is not on anyone's side.

> Your theology program is fledgling. Jenny wants to borrow one of your new GPS systems for a demonstration - that and a small construction crew.

> Your botany program has brought back spicy food to the world! Also, coca and opium poppies, but the former are selling slightly better than the latter so far.

> Your MEC program is mature; your agents can cheat death, at the price of losing most of their senses of pain, pleasure, and touch.

> Your space program hasn't reached space yet, but it has given you a foothold on the water canopy, which you have used to implement spy subsatellites and GPS.

> Your nuclear weapons program is fledgling and has given you Farnsworth fusors and neutron sources.

> Your sonic program is doing well, and has given you Wubbing Modules for your forces, and a smattering of Sonic Piledriver demolition vehicles.

> Your AI program has kept you alive when TOL figured out how to shut you down, and given you access to early 2000s style drones.

Feel free to join me in the ongoing story of Hilad H. Keenan's economic expeditions around the worlds, buying and selling goods far and wide from his ocean-going sailraft.

Last thread, we sold a barrel of mead to an inn, bought some iron ore from travelling miners, and bought some thread and rope from the barwoman to repair our raft. We are now visiting the village blacksmith at his forge in the middle of the night, looking to buy a weapon for self-defence on our travels.

>Recapping from last thread:

"Right," says the smith, placing the machete back into its hoop. "I have a fine sword here." He takes a short sword from the wall and presents it you: its blade is about 1 foot and a third, which is set in a wooden hilt. It, too, bears the intiials G.SW. You look over the blade carefully for any cracks, colour disturbances or rust and find none.

Weighing the blade in your hand, you find it to be light enough to be swung comfortably in a slow arc. Luckily, pulling ropes for much of your working time both before and after becoming a tradesman has earnt you a strong pair of biceps.

"If you want, I can wrap any of these hilts in leather pretty cheaply," the smith offers.

"I don't think I'll need a leather hilt. My hands are tough. If sweat becomes a problem, I can always wrap some cloth around it. Considering the temperature now, though, I think I'll be fine."

The smith's ginger eyebrows bob up and down as he nods his head.

"I have a budget of 175 coppers," you continue, "but I also have pearls, spice and 2 barrels of honey, as well as 20 rocks of iron ore."

"I see. If you cared enough to walk all the way out here from the village alone in the middle of the night, in this weather, then I'd not like to send you away with nothing. I don't really need many coppers - I actually minted quite a few of the copper coins in this village. Now and again, I buy copper pitchforks and shinguards and that sort of thing, melt them down and make them into new coins. And sometimes I make cheap tools or new coppers out of rusty old copper coins. I could sell you this sword for 100 coppers; that's the market price. But I will accept other goods in place of coin."

>You decided to haggle, starting at 50 coppers and 1 pearl. Roll me 2d20+2 for the strength of your haggling.

You are a bounty hunter in the year 2235. Inter-systemary travel has been achieved 113 years prior, and thank God for it. Your job depends on it, you work for an underground organization based in New York, Earth that "Gets shit done, anywhere". For a task, a place, and a fair chunk of change, you'll do anything. You've been in the job for 4 months, and you've just been given your own ship. You have infinitely more freedom than your apprenticeship, you're able to choose what jobs you want, how to accomplish them, what you use to get the job done, and best of all, you take the cash.

Speaking of cash, your currency is known around the galaxy as "Sillens". A Sillen roughly translates to one cent of 2016 United States Currency (you do the rest of the math if you aren't an Amerifag)

You don't have enough Sillens to buy anything useful yet, so you have to use a primitive way of getting jobs, sitting at a desk. And waiting.

After a solid 13 minutes of your first day, your first customer comes in. They've got a job too. The man hastily sits down, looking quite panicked. The HoloScreen on your desk flickers to life and displays the info that the man entered before he came into your office. The only reason he was there was to negotiate price, which was as I said earlier, the best part. The screen first read the man's information "Jeffery Burris, 24, Male, Unemployed". The screen then read some other shit you couldn't care less about. Now, the job description, "JOB CATEGORY - Capture/kill. TARGET - Calvan Raih. TARGET LOCATION - New San Inkashire, Mars PREFERRED PAY - 2 million Sillens (since this is the first time, its 20 grand) ". "Holy shit" You mutter to yourself, your first job is a capture kill with a pretty big price tag on her. And the job's pretty damn close.

Actions: Negotiate price (Risky, you aren't too great of a negotiator, just started)
Accept your first job offer

(This is my first try trying to do a quest feedback is apreciated)

You live in a desolate, ruined world, a shadow of its former self, long ago, a civilazation prospered, the essence that your world once produced fueled their magic and their machines, cities were built with spells and essence powered contraptions, the essence after so much use, eventually, dried up, only to come back a few years later with much more quantity.

This cycle repeated itself over the centuries, the old planet oozed out essence from a giant hole in the ground which was where the old civilazation built its capital.

After so much usage of the essence and its constant cycle the planet could no longer push out all the enssence it produced from that hole, the essence started creating ruptures in the land, imbuing other beings with the essence that were not desgined to house it.

Only the humans had the capability to properly absorve and use the essence, the animals werent meant to absorve it, but the constant exposure to the essence changed them, it made them suitable to house the essence, they grew in size, they sported green deformities in their bodies and turned hostile to anything that moved.

This quickly became a problem to the old ones, cities were destroyed by the creatures and giant holes replaced them, eventually all the minor cities away from the capital dissapeared, the mages of the old capital devised a plan to make the abominations dissapear.

But thats all you know from the old world.

All this you know because of the "rifts" youve found along you travels, 2 years ago you left your home when your family died due to exposure to the remnants of the essence, you were caught in this event but you didnt die, you were able to house it whitin you, you dont know why, but you survived, after this event you left your familys farm and set on in a journey to find answers, during you travels you found these "rfits", you discovered that these pockets of essence hold visions of the old world, spending time in these rifts is harmless but there are side effects that occur after youve spent time in them, these side effects are nausea, vomit, headaches and fainting, you know these all too well.

Wat do?

>"Ive done this dozen of times, im sure i can make it this time without any problems"

As you think of how to move your REPAIR MODULE from here to Burel's home, you pause a sudden thought comes to your mind.

'How was I able to take out my BATPOON...?' You thought to yourself, this question racked your brain. 'How did I manage to pull out a bat harpoon that is almost, if not, larger than me out of thin air..??' You rock the REPAIR MODULE gently in thought, hearing something tumble inside it. You look at your module curiously and open it, reaching for the unknown item. As you see the item, you immediately remember how was it possible to draw out your BATPOON. By using your MATTER MANIPULATION UNIT. You behold at the sight of it, as if it was radiating some kind of holy light. The MATTER MANIPULATION UNIT or the M.M. Unit for short acts like a temporary storage for water and other items via pocket dimensions, a must have for someone like you.
Taking the M.M Unit, you casually store the REPAIR MODULE. You quietly thank your people for creating the M.M. Units as it is extremely convenient. You decide to take a look at what else is inside your unit aside from your REPAIR MODULE and BATPOON, that being:

>Two Portholes
>A Life Extender
>5 Spatial Sample Vials
>A Bestiary
>The Compression Cistern
>The Cyclone Cistern
>Slip Shells
>A Cable Kit

"Damn, that's a lot of stuff..." You mutter to yourself as you look at your inventory. "Wonder if I'll even be able to use all this?"

"Oy comrade Vapor!" Burel calls out from the dead GIANT SANDWORM he's skinning. "I'm almost done, are you ready to go?"

"Yeah, I'm ready!" You call back at Burel. You stay where you are, waiting for him to finish.

Welcome to Fallout Civ thread. Choose your Civ and location, and name your Capital City.

Mechanics:
> Every 5 population = -1 food, -1 Water per turn
> Population is gained from Settlement Beacons (Perk Required)
> Buildings Are Built with scrap
> Caps can be used to trade with traders
> Every turn, you can perform up to 3 Actions (3 AP)
> Instead of Researching, you level up and choose perks. You need XP to level up, to gain XP, perform tasks such as building, exploring, scavenging, etc. You will gain the most XP from completing quests. Quests will be given to you from time to time, or you can choose to search for them as an action.
> You use population to complete actions. The more population assigned, the faster things are done. Certain buildings require population to be assigned to gain benefits from it.
> Sometimes, one of your citizens will gain a title. Titled People (i.e. “The Lone Survivor”) will complete quests and actions faster and will gain more for completing them. However, if you don’t use them after a while, they will go off and adventure on their own, and may not come back.
> To expand, you must send population to build an outpost (Perk Required). You can only claim land within 3 tiles of your capital/settlements and 2 tiles within another outpost.
> Your Capital starts with a garden (+1 Food every 2 turns, requires 1 pop.), 1 water pipe (+1 water every 2 turns), and a campsite (max 7 population).
> Capital Tile has Max of 20 Buildings, other tiles have max of 15 Buildings.
> Base stats: Start with 10 food, 10 water, 5 Scrap, 100 Caps, 6 Population

You ease into your chair and slide the VR display over your eyes, popping the wired earbuds that doubled as earplugs into your ears. This was the moment you had been waiting for. You finally had the chance to play the MMO of the century. Well, the closed beta at least. It was a wonder you even managed to get your hands on it to begin with. People were clambering to get their hands on a copy after some footage was leaked on the internet. The level of attention to the mechanics of the game on a technical level is what impressed gamers across the world. In fact, it was so impressive that people who never even touched an MMO in their life were willing to pick it up to give it a try.

The AI alone was said to be extremely intelligent and the days of preconceived schedules for NPCs were over. The NPCs were equipped with simple yet robust script packages that simulated the human ability to learn and react to sensory stimulation. It’s the type of stuff that’s used on androids nowadays but lightweight and with the inclusion of a moral compass and set of values. Of course the developers had to create an algorithm that determined a moral compass and set of values specific to an NPC that was determined with a random number generator and the area the NPC resides. It was rather ingenious. They even tagged specific areas with stuff like level of poverty and cultural influences to affect the NPCs behavior.

You stare into the display as it hums to life and logos flashed across the screen. All that was left to do was to insert the sensory chip into your forehead… It was the core selling point of the game after all. It was revolutionary! The chip tricked your brain into thinking your digital avatar’s body was your real body. Every object in the game was tagged with specific sensory responses that are fed directly to your brain if you decide to touch, smell or taste an object in the game. This was what made the game so desirably to so many people.

You press the cool metal chip into your brain implant and sigh as you felt yourself dip into a drowsy state. The games title lit up on the screen, “Sultera Online”, before fading into whiteness. You feel your senses leaving you and you’re left floating in a sea of white. As the drowsiness slowly takes hold you think about the character you had generated on the separate app that was included with the game kit. You were going to be a serious bad ass, nothing like your current self. Finally, you fall asleep.

You wake up in a grassy plain. You sit up and the first thing you see is that there's an illegible sign in front of you. As you feel your excitement build you realize something was quite right with the current body you were inhabiting. What do you do?

“Are you fucking kidding me? A reality show?”

Jess is pacing back and forth in a rage in the park near Proxy's office. She's swearing a lot. You meanwhile are still trying to process what the hell this even means.

“A reality show?! Seriously! I came here to wrestle, not get involved in some cheap drama and silly challenges! That's not wrestling!” Soon, she spins around to face you, pointing a finger in her face. “And why are you still here, anyway? Are you following me?”

You pause. You kind of are, just not consciously. “Sorry,” you mutter. “I just don't really have anywhere to be right now. I thought the two of us could talk about this.”

Jess sighs as she scratches the back of her head. “Okay, what do you want to talk about? How ridiculous this is? How much of a slap in the face to our... well, my talent at least.”

“Hey!” you protest.

“I've never seen you wrestle, I can't judge!” Jess explains.

You tap your feet impatiently. It is pretty ridiculous. You've been expected to wait ninety-five days without any word as to when you were next going to step into the ring, and now you're finding out that not only is your Total Impact contract not guaranteed, but you have to take part in a ridiculous game show to prove yourself?

“So... we could just refuse,” you state, raising the option.

Jess shakes her head. “Are you kidding? We can't refuse! We're stuck in a Catch-22 situation here! Taking part in this show would be bad for our career and reputation, but turning it down would be career suicide! And besides, I can't pass up a chance at 250,000 dollars! With that kind of money, I could pay for my mother's surgery!”

You stare at her, guiltily. “Oh... your mother needs surgery?”

Jess stares at you then shakes her head. “No, but if she ever did, I could afford it! Besides, I'm going to have to come up with some kind of sob story to get me through this.”

“That's stupid,” you reply. “A sob story isn't going to get you anywhere.”

“Oh, and I suppose you're just going to succeed on your own merits, right?” Jess smirk, placing a hand on her hip. “Because you're just that great, I'm sure. What makes you so special?”

Keep it simple. Don't want to drop the bombshell yet. That, and we have three other friends who were trained by Omega as well.

That said, I expect her to have been the champ too. Seems fitting.

It's not like we're going to be able to hide it for long.

It was finally there, the moment the Hero fought so much for was finally happening. All the pain, sacrifices, the lost friends...that moment would decide the fate of his whole world.
He firmed his fists on his sword and charged with all his might to the being he feared for so long. In the heavy atmosphere of the Demon King's lair the time appeared to be slowed and dragged by the thick shadows.
His senses were consumed by heart beats, the taste of blood, and the aim of his sword. Then the large dark figure also turned to face him.
With an ominous smile creeping up on his face.
Shall we begin?
The Demon King was also ready for what both knew was the final battle.

White
He felt nothing, what had just happen?
The first two things the Hero felt was a fresh breeze, and the humid floor under him.
He was overcome by a mix of relieve, happiness and confusion when he realized he was alive.
That could only mean...
ah!...I won...
He started by moving his hand, his body too felt like it was in shock that he made it alive.
The Hero stayed for what seemed like hours just moving his fingers, breathing and slowly remembering how to be. His body, specially his right leg ached. He didn't mind.
He felt his ears ticking with a buzz.
Then he realized that in the soft buzz in his ears a weirdly familiar sound intertwined it self.
The Hero slowly opened his eyes.
The strange sound was getting higher, it was not very far.
As he gazed into the dark stone ceiling, he recognized, in an awe, the persistent sharp sound as of the sound of a baby crying...
Get up and look for the baby

//Hello guys. In this quest I'll be using bold text for the options, so just comment which one do you like better. I'll also try to draw each new scene as the story goes on so it might take some time, but anyway, I'm excited to start a ride with you.//
