heresy you say.jpg

You take the role of the leader of a chaotic cult on an otherwise peaceful Imperial world. Your (for now) petty cultist may not realise it, but the gaze of the gods has turned this way, and the Emperor's tarot reads disaster and threat. Great things are about to happen, and perhaps you might be their fulcrum. Or perhaps you'll be caught and nailed to a stake and set on fire.

I'll be running this with a few different player characters active at once (cautiously going to say... err... five for now, and we'll see how it goes). Bear in mind that death will hang over every character at every moment. You're a cultist, leading a cult, and that's somewhat frowned upon by the Arbites, the Church and particularly the Inquisition. If you stay under the radar, committing just the odd little heresy you could get by, perhaps...

And that's without even factoring in who you'll be serving. Will playing it safe impress your gods? Do they look kindly on a boring servant who achieves little? Perhaps turning you into a spawn could spice things up?

You only live once. But eternal torture is possible after that.

>Some gameplay info:

It'll be a sort of bastard combination of quest and nation builder. Leaning more to the quest side. I'll (and if you have any sense you as well) will keep a rough track of the size of your cult and what resources you have at hand. I'll give a post, perhaps with some general world events, then you can decide what you're up to. Anything is allowed, unless I decide it isn't. It can be something relatively safe, or something more ambitious, entirely up to you. The more detail you go into about it, the more I'll have to work off, and some leeway will be given for making up a vaguely sensible plan.

For each activity or action you're going for, give it a roll, up to a max of three. A larger task can be undertaken using multiple rolls. If I think you've used too few for what you want to do, I'll just whack a big penalty on the roll. All rolls will be d100. Higher is generally better. But not always. And the chaos gods do have sacred numbers...

Once people have said what they'd like to do I'll give you all what happened based on your rolls and how retarded your idea was.

Your aim, of course, is to gain power. What exactly does that mean? You interpret it how you want. Potentially, there's a daemonhood at the end of the road for someone. Only one.

Once again, remember, player characters can die. I am planning to keep an honour roll though, should we get far enough for that.

>Some setting info:

Heresy Game is set upon the humble world of Charidan V, somewhere on the margins of the Segmentum Solar. Originally colonised for minerals and prometheum, it also eventually evolved into an important agri-world. Its position on trade lanes combined with huge production of the holy trinity of fuel, metal and food has led to a large population, it being home to many merchant and noble houses, and the construction of a single huge hive city, known as Char Spire. Only the fact that nothing nearby is of any real strategic importance has stopped Charidan from becoming one of the great worlds of the Imperium. It has two moons. One belongs to the Imperial Navy, the other to the Adeptus Mechanicus.

Your character can fit into this wherever you like. You can be a lowly miner or farmer all the way up to the head of a noble house or a senior military officer. You could be a ganger or you could be a priest. Pros and cons to all, some of which are obvious and some of which are hidden in the depths of my notes and malicious little mind.

Whatever the case, you will start with a small number of cultists following you. They could be an extended family, work colleagues, your gang, your squad, whatever. Your understanding of chaos and its gods, being a small time cultist, is very minimal.

As long as it doesn't contradict what's already there, you can add to the fluff how you please.

If you want to play, I'd suggest something along these lines to get us going:

>Name:

>Character:
Any appearance, gender, etc that you feel like letting us know. Things about the physical you.

>Imperial Life:
What your life is like as far as the general society is concerned. Your job, where you live, anything you think could be relevant. A few things are off limits. The planetary governor is one. Space marines are another. Inquisition is a third.

>Secret Life:
Everything about your cult. How did it form? Did you make it? If not, how did you end up in charge of it? Who is in it? What does it believe? What does it do? What are it's aims?

>Aptitudes:
What are you good at? What are you bad at? A notable thing here is the potential to be a psyker. Are you one? What are your abilities? Obviously, powerful psykers will quickly draw unwanted attention from things like Inquisitors and Black Ships.

Name: Nerud Blackmon
Character: most of his flesh has been replaced by mechanisms. Wears the red robe of the tech priests most of the time, his blond scalp remains, tied back in a pony tail.
Imperial life: He is a tech priest, and a good one at that. He is often hired on to repair the belonging of nobles and the military.
Secret life: His mechanical sensations and undetectable music being fed to himself and his cult make them one of the most difficult to track slaaneshi cults in the universe. There is only one imperial that knows of our existence, Inquisitor James Fitstane. As for our heretical activities, the immersion in mind melting amounts of synthetic sensation in secret alcoves pleases slaanesh, and in return, we can bend the minds of the high and mighty from the oil and engines where none would look.
Aptitudes: One of few beings that truly know how these machines function. Also a minor telepath, making small, undetectable suggestions in the minds of others. Finally, although rarely used, his mechanical body is capable of feats of great speed and dexterity.
Is this ok?

Ever since you where little you knew that life is hard for those who are different,
and you just happened to be very different, a mutant, ugly uggo they called you,
those evil kids, people disrespected you and even sometimes hurt you,
but untill lately you didnt even bother to stand up for yoruself, untill..

One day you are down at the destroyed sewers and you slip on some human doodoo,
you fall down a waterfall and hit your head prietty hard,
you swim out of the water, despite being an ugly mutant and having nothing to you,
only the rags on your skin, you get motivated.

That blow to the head triggered something within you, a new life goal than just survival,
what is that new goal?

To find love.

True love, no matter how far the journey takes us.
>>
>>344076

It is clear now, all the pain he has gone trough, none hurt more than the fact that he was alone,
alone is this vast, cruel, carcass of a world

but as long as his tumorous heart is beating, he will find his other half, he will find love

so he climed out of the sewers onto the sun-bleached street below, the sun is high and its
rays reflect on the few unbroken windows of empty skyscrapers all around the street, for
this was once a city, now a ruin, what's left of the standing buildings is only used as looting areas,
for the place you grew up in is located a few hours walk away, a junktown

Where do you start your search for love?
>>

>QUEST:
You awaken to find yourself alone in a dark cell with nothing but yourself and the ragged clothes you are wearing. You do not know how you got there, nor how these clothes got on your body. You can see a number of seemingly endless hallways through the cell door. Your goal is to either find your way out of the dungeon, find whoever did this to you and why, find and survive with as many players as you can, slaughter as many players as you can, or any combination of these.

>RULES FOR POSTING:
In order to post you must first have made a character and had it approved by me, the Dungeon Master, and you must post under your character's name.

Your character must have:
>Up to 1 starting weapon (fists do not count)
>Up to 2 Combat Abilities
>Up to 2 Passive abilities (meaning they can be used outside of combat)
>A description and/or picture of your character's appearance, race, maybe personality, etc
>Their stats

Your character can be anything and have any type of abilities or weapon that you can think of as long as it is a humanoid, is fair to the game, and does not overpower your character.

>STATS:
Your characters have 10 stat points each, which must be distributed between Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, and Charisma. These points will be added to your roll each time a stat roll appears, depending on what type of stat roll it is.

In the game, anything and everything is possible, but not everything is entirely probable, so be careful what you roll for.

You are a coalition of parties leading the Weimar republic, and have with adept diplomacy and awesome force gotten the entirety of Europe to hate you and unite against or with you, with the exception of your bretheren, Austria, Liechtenstein, and some Balkan nations, ehich love you. You have just declared the Versailles treaty null and void,
Your main job is to prevent Adolf Hitler from coming to power.

However, the Nazis have declared an uprising, fortifying in Bavaria. The Austrians and French have came to our assistance, but Italy is invading Austria after siding with the Nazis

What do you do now?

You are a normal person.
When people think "generic collage kid", you are what comes to mind.
You aren't very good at anything.
You don't really suck at anything.
You are normal, you are simple, you are sane.

That just makes the fact that you just woke up in an alleyway clutching a deck of yugioh cards (a game you have never played, though you did watch a few episodes of the anime a few years back.) all the more disturbing.
You have no clue whats happening.

You are Subject 108, a.k.a. Whirlpool. You are equipped with state-of-the-art technologies from a reclusive civilization that has mastered spatial distortion. You tend to suffer occasional lapses in memory, emotion and judgement from shifting hormonal imbalances due to a congenital anomaly. You have been sent to the feral planet known as Cymbio IV for a simple task: fetching water, but you are sidetracked by an adventure of your own making.

Errai and Caffeine rushed you to the hospital, the latter telling her story to the former along the way. Afterwards you were detoxified, cleaning you of your inebriation. With Caffeine in tow, you regrouped with Rigel at the Transport District. Unfortunately he still believed in the kidnapping plan and had Propane stowed in the back. A heated confrontation ensued but luckily Decrux arrived with the rest of the group to help alleviate the situation. You, Errai, Nicotine and Caffeine then had a walk towards Halon's destination. You had a bonding experience with the three before an interruption led to the encounter with an unaffiliated group.

The other two district heads are chatting with Aramid so you approach Errai who appears to be visibly depressed.

>"My apologies for being such a burden, I am in a melancholic state after realizing my worthless inadequacy. I do not have any extraordinary attributes, unlike the rest of you, and I am beginning to become a hindrance."

>If possible, verify the water claims of 4eyes
Judging from how desperate the tall woman sounded, perhaps her information is genuine. You can't be too careful however, maybe a fact check wouldn't hurt.

Let's play a GURPS sandbox campaign using a world generated from Dwarf Fortress. You'll all control and roll for 1 (or more) character through votes/suggestions. I'll be using all of the history, sites, civilizations, gods, monsters and people that the game generates, adjusting everything where necessary to have everything make sense.

First things first, character creation:

You have the standard 100 points. We'll be using GURPS lite for most stuff:: http://www.sjgames.com/gurps/lite/3e/gurpslite.pdf

But, if there's something you really want that's not in there, as long as it fits/is awesome, it's in. Whichever character gets highest votes will be the MC. But don't fear! Any character not chosen will be put into the game as a "special" NPC's which the MC might encounter later.

And now let's begin!

Pic related, is the current hamlet you are in, Emanicen "Birdssave". You may pick from 3 races: Human, Elf or Dwarf.

For many generations, clans roamed the lands, hunted and built tools of stone. We fought each other and occasionally the beastly races - goblins and ogres. One day a great hero arose - all the shamans could see that the elements had granted him great power. His name was Rog and he united a dozen human clans into a tribe. He taught us how to make copper, how to grow crops and tend herds. One day Rog was gone and the skies darkened, storms raged and winds howled. The hardest winter in memory passed and spring came, but the shamans found that they had lost their connection to the elements. Our tribe settled to the northwest and built a new village.
We've grown in numbers and prosperity these past 23 years. We slew a tyrannical Water Dragon and convinced a goblin mining village to join our tribe. Many mysteries remain to be solved - what happened to the elements and why are our shamans powerless? Perhaps we shall soon learn.

Resplendent Wave, a sea serpent nymph who joined after the slaying of the water dragon for her own protection, appears before the council of elders. She has in the past years been saving those who would otherwise drown and helping the fishermen.

"Soooo... You guys have lost your connections to the gods and abilities to perform magic, other than limited with dragonsblood assistance. I've got great news... Anyone who worships me can gain the old water magic you wanted back! Woooh! Show em!"

A shaman levitates a small ball of water into his hand.

"You got any other magic?" An elder asks.

"Um.. That's not important. Maaaaagiiiiiiic." Resplendent Wave sinks a little bit lower into the river.

But a fisherman standing nearby, a gruff stereotype with the bushy beard holds out a hand like the shaman did, only for a fish to leap into it.

Resplendent Wave glances at him "Uh, maaaaaaagiiiic?" With jazz hands.

"Anyway, I've got a little power left, and I wanted your input on what kind of magic I should learn next! I want to expand my portfolio of helping! My two ideas are large scale water purification, to prevent spread of disease and promote crop growth, and waters of youth to extend lifespans! Neither would be too amazingly powerful right now, probably only a few years of gain for the waters of youth, but with enough followers, I bet I could totally knock your hats off!"

"I've heard rumors as well that you'd prefer to have shark cavalry! Which, is cool, and would totally help me explore for and help my kin, so I'd be down with that too, even though it's a little more fighty than I like."

>> Go for water purification, our most valuable resource is the people as a whole.
>> Go for waters of youth, our most valuable resource is our greatest leaders, craftsmen, and warriors.
>> Go for shark cavalry, because shark cavalry.
>> Wow, I like all of those, can we build you a temple or throw a festival or something to get more than one?

>Player Question
>Dice: Do you like them? If so, how much is too much, as far as their use is concerned?
I prefer dice because nothing but success can get pretty boring. Added tension through dice can really make a quest fun.

>Bonus Question
>Preferred setting? Tone? Bright, happy fantasy? Dark, gritty sci-fi? Brutal, visceral realism? What settings and tones really strike a chord with you?
I prefer Darker fantasy settings but nothing gritty or brutal. I would like to see a quest based in the Night Angel Trilogy setting.

>QM Question
I just finished with /qst/ quest, and I want to do a Ace Attorney style quest but I'm still coming up with the cases. I don't know if to use classic AA characters or to make up OCs. Case ideas are welcome.

>Play Question
Dice is fine, just don't use it so much it slows the quest down. That's one of the problems I had when QMing for /qst/ quest, the dice rolls slowed down the quest dramatically.

>Bonus Question
I like a lightheartedness but also when a quest can be serious, and it feels like there's something at stake even if the setting is silly. My favorite settings are modern or slightly into the future.

>Bonus Question
Personally, I like a good mixture of joviality and darkness, though I'm always a sucker for drawquests with cute characters.
I guess that preference presents itself in my little quest going on right now.

Almost 2 years have passed since you became The Overlord
Many things have happened, you found The Reds, you took over two new villages under your control and you got another mistress
Last we left off: You were about to take on some disgraced heroes.

Majority vote wins, Minimum 3 votes, No rigid time limit for votes. In case of ties, votes will be given an opportunity to change votes and new votes will be accepted. If a tie remain, choice will be decided by a die roll. Dice rolls will be d10s and d20s. There is a 10 minute time limit for rolling, unless specified. Crit Success trumps Crit Fail which trumps non-crit Success and Fail. And remember evil always finds a way.

>20, Huge Success
>Fight, Magic
Magic is your strong suit so you'll go with that. You leave your minions to throw fire from afar while you cast poison traps at the paladins' feet. Their armor doesn't catch fire easily but once it does it burns hot and bright. The paladins try dispelling the magic but the heat on their skin and the sickness in their bodies make it nearly impossible. One throws a spear at you and doesn't even make it close, pitiful. The paladins never even got close to make a hit on you. One is struggling to rip off his bile covered helm screams "YOU WILL DIE WITH US WRETCH" Highly unlikely, a dying man will defeat you? A blade drives into your side, a small pinch. You look down and see the rogue next to you, putting her mass behind the strike. You pick her up by the throat, she struggles clawing at your hand "You are coming with me" You leave the village for now, but you'll probably have a hero's welcome when you return.

You are Kailey Baker, or Kiwi, of the Adverine Metropolitan Police Department with your job being a Narcotics Detective. Your best friend and colleague, Danielle Keats, otherwise known as Danni, is missing in action after today's events, whatever they were before you woke up at the park.

Previously, you had started off memoryless in the middle of the park, a mystery on its own, but regained them with the help of Danni's photo's on her phone but a significant lack of Danni concern's you when the announcement of an "incident" over the station intercom gives way to anything in your mind.

As you sprint to where the incident was supposed to have happened, hoping to every god above that Danni isn't hurt, you come to the end of the main platforms where people had been moving away.

Once there, you get the best sight of your life- Danni is sitting on the edge of the platform, holding her arm in pain when she looks over to see you. Her face goes from in pain to absolute joy.

"Kiwi! You're okay! Where were you!?"

"Uh... the park? You okay Danni?"

"Fine, just got knocked down when I tried to stop a suspect. He had a baton and knocked me aside before running onto the tracks and disappeared a distance away and left us a parting gift." she points to the middle of the tracks where a dead male human lay, two bullet holes in him.

"Oh. That ain't good... say... you haven't seen my... everything now did you?"

"What'd you lose?"

"Oh just about everything: my badge, my wallet, my GUN."

"That is not good." she pauses to think before continuing. "The guy who shot this man had a gun like yours... maybe he had it. If you want to chase him, take mine." she hands you her gun, a Glock 21 loaded with 13+1. "Also, I hope you remember your badge number at least."

"Of course I do... I'll be seeing you later Danni." you say before running down the tracks, after whoever shot that guy.

Current Inventory:

Glock 21 - 13+1 bullets
Phone

Stats: TBD
Class: TBD

Where will you search for the killer first? Along the tracks are:

>A supermarket
>A clothing store
>An apartment block

I should note that your race is a Catfolk (or Khajiit, whichever you prefer) and Danni is a goblin.

Apartment block sounds like the most likely place, head there!

You sprint down the tracks until you get to the apartment building. Or really buildings but the one in front of you is the only one that has no doorman and an unlocked entrance and naturally a great place to break in and hide. There is an elevator to take you to the other 4 floors above, a stairwell up and a separate going down to the basement and, from knowing tall buildings well, roof access on the fifth floor.

This guy could be on any of them!

Which floor do you wish to search first?

Currently…
You feel good. You’ve never been one for hospitals, and one of the largest ones in the city currently sits behind you, looming and waiting for another mistake. You’re flanked by your companions: Katie, for her part, is wearing a forest green dress with a floral pattern on it; you think it compliments her eyes, not that you want to keep looking at them or her. Definitely not. She’s a friend… Just a friend.

To your right is Kori. Reliable, strong, and a little mysterious, you feel like the two of you have an unspoken understanding. You can rely on her blunt nature and observation skills to give you a healthy dose of reality. You’re avoiding looking at her for a different reason. Floating behind your friend in the purple dress is a Mismagius, the same one that tried to kill you yesterday. You can feel a lingering hatred being projected your way.

Instead, you turn your attention to the pokemon walking by your feet: Anuket, the injured Totodile you caught yesterday, and Lugh, the Growlithe you and Katie hatched. He’s growing bigger, and there’s only a few more days until he’s in fighting shape. You remember Katie telling you that he soaks up whatever he sees: whether it be catching, training, or battling. You’re not sure he’s seen any battles.

Anyways, there’s one day left before the biking event happens. You have a whole day to spend however you like. You…
>Go to River City early. It’s best to get a lay of the land.
>Train. It’s important to get stronger for the challenges ahead.
>Do a few missions. You’ll need the money.
>Read and study. Information is just as important as battle knowledge.
>Go get supplies. You have a list of things you want.
>Find someone to battle. You feel the need.

WELCOME, DELICIOUS FRIEND
You are only a few moments away from Fallen London...

Choose a user name.

May we ask whether you're a lady or a gentleman?

A lady.
A gentleman.
My dear sir, there are individuals roaming the streets of Fallen London at this very moment with the faces of squid! Squid! Do you ask them their gender? And yet you waste our time asking me trifling and impertinent questions about mine? It is my own business, sir, and I bid you good day.

Oh, and lastly, which of the portraits in the image best represents your glorious visage?

That... is not a valid portrait!
You now have this one instead.

Unjustly imprisoned!

The view from your cell is magnificent: Fallen London, far below. You've come so far, and you're so close! No prison can hold you now.

Hello, delicious friend. To find out who you are and why you're here, escape from prison.

Concentrate on escaping!
Get out of here first. Worry about the view later.
(as this was the only option, it was done automatically. )

A plan forms

It's a half-mile fall from the barred cell window to the dark waters below. But a supply dirigible brings food to the prison every day. It passes directly below your window. And the mortar that holds the window bars in place is old and rotting. If you can work them free...

You are now Preparing for a Daring Escape...

How will you get through these bars?

You'll need some sort of tool to loosen them. How will you acquire it?

You're a Watchful gentleman
The gaolers use work gangs of prisoners to expand the prison tunnels. If you can spot an overlooked hammer and chisel...

A straightforward challenge. Your Watchful quality gives you a 100% chance of success.

You're a Persuasive gentleman
You don't really know whether the gaoler is male or female under its thick hood. You're not even sure it's human. But you're very charming. Perhaps you can persuade it to give you a little gift.

A straightforward challenge. Your Persuasive quality gives you a 100% chance of success

You're a Dangerous gentleman
Rats here sometimes use tiny pickaxes - even minute sticks of dynamite to make their tunnels. If you can grab some of their tools...

A straightforward challenge. Your Dangerous quality gives you a 100% chance of success

You're a Shadowy gentleman
Steal a gaoler's iron-tipped cudgel, right out of its belt.

A straightforward challenge. Your Shadowy quality gives you a 100% chance of success
