You two have some privacy right now, and as bad as you would like to keep the time good right now, this is something you feel like you can't let go.

If this counts as acting like an adult, it sucks. It really does.

You pick up a mannequin head, a blond bob hanging off of it.

"Why did you ask me about um...about that, over at Faraway's?" You don't look away from the yellow hair, thinking about how much you miss your own light strands. "And don't tell me it was for no reason, I know better then that."

It would be better if you didn't have to speak so bluntly, if you didn't have to sound so harsh and accusing, but you want an answer that doesn't step around. That's what adults do with children, and that's not what you are. If you are going to be an adult, then you need to be treated like one by everyone else.

Lawrence isn't writing, keeping his stare in the other direction as he scratches idly at his cheek.

"You need to tell me," You wait for him to do something. "Tell me Lawrence."

Your voice is commanding that time, an order rather then a question. You never wanted to consider yourself a mean person, never wanted to boss people around. Lawrence is grimacing, but still there's no answer being offered. You change up your tone.

"Please...tell me...tell me," You're pleading this time, knowing that Lawrence doesn't like to see you sad. It seems to work, as slowly he draws out his notebook. As an explanation is written out, you place the mannequin head back in its original spot. It would be petty to say that you're jealous of it, but it feels as if you will never become used to such dark hair.

It reminds you too much of your father.

You hair was one of the few things that tied you to your mother, and now that's hidden. What else do you have left? Your eyes? Looking in the mirror, it feels like you can see her looking back. The same tired and worn out aura, clouding over what should be big bright eyes.

Your father had a similar look to his, didn't he?

You were all just a family of tired people.

Were.

In retaliation of your negative thoughts, you give the mannequin a hard flick with your fingers. Lawrence waits for you to come over and grab the note, and as you take the book from his hand he tries to hold on to it. A mix of nervousness and guilt scrunches him mouth, and when he looks at you it's not in the eyes.

Don't get your hopes up about it yet, but I'm trying to help find you a safe place, a permanent one. Where you don't have to worry about freezing, or looking over your shoulder constantly, or afraid to go to sleep at night.

It won't fix all your problems. But you can have safety, and if you living in a real house with some sort of parental guardians then I think Bower would be much less likely to try and mess with you.

Right now, you living on the street without a guardian is the most detrimental thing to your safety.

If you can have both of those and increase your chances of a as normal of a life that you can get at this point, then I want you to have that.

"Okay, I mean I understand and I don't know if that man would just stop because I was staying in one ho-...wait, you're not talking about foster home, are you? I can't do that...I don't want to. You can't s-send me off there, I know w-what happens there..."

Not foster home, I promise.

You won't have to bounce around homes, you can settle. Have stability.

"Then what about that last part? The part about like...where you made it sound like I couldn't see you then?" This is the part that has been burning up in you the most. Lawrence knows it too, and it feels like he has been avoiding the answer. But now he has no choice but to tell you.

You'll have a chance to live a normal life.

What we have going on isn't normal.

It's already weird enough for me to hang around you, but at least I can excuse it as me watching you, but that can't keep happening if you're back to a normal life.

"But I can't have that..." Your eyes linger on that last word. "I'm not like the other kids my age anymore...e-even if it wasn't just the r-...rape, then it's the b-blood..."

You can get close to having things be okay though. You can't do that if you're hanging off a guy who's nearly twice your age

"I don't hang off of you..." You say this, but you know that you do. Or rather, you would if you could. "And I said I don't m-mind waiting to hold your hand in public..."

Even when you're of age it won't make it better.

People will be talking, and it will be for both of us.

They'll say I'm grooming you, and they'll say that you're being tricked into it.

Do you really think you could deal with that? Do you expect yourself to keep going on, living like that? That's not a good life.

Lawrence looks frustrated as he writes this, and even more so when you read it.

Your fingers wrinkle the paper from how hard you're holding it. It hurts to think about this...

What do you do?
>>
>>391511
Doesn't matter what others think, there are people upset about marriages like Sarah and Eric's. We'll deal with it if it comes.

Even if we did agree to it, though, it'd mean Lawrence would be alone again, wouldn't it? And so would we. People would just... expect us to get over it, tell us to. The people who've hurt us, and those we've hurt...

What would he do, though? Not try to kill himself again, right?

Ask him what he'd do with us... "safe".

A world tears, a Decree is made; a Pact formed, a Balance struck. Welcome back, Dark Spirit!

You are a fiery Jána of the Night born high astride the flickering embers thrust from the deep heart of the world, and right now you're scaring some pirates with the aid of a fuzzy friend.

>PREVIOUSLY:
You were called to the aid of an old Aniunakei warrior named Uluwehi, who you then accorded with to defend his people from pirate invaders. After which you struck a deal with the tribespeople’s Curer, Ijana, to retrieve her daughter from the Far Jungle.

After receiving your reward you decided to bait a pirate captain named Davidge Gansaul into a deal heavily to your benefit, with the initial condition of pacifying his ally Blackwren who’s made port at Atrireme.

After you’d soul-poked your mortal and made a powerful accord with a small skyjána to attain for it a treasure you advised Davidge to moor his ship closer to your goal, although he’d had other more personal aims in mind.

There're bonuses to creative write-ins and additional ideas, situationally and mechanically, and I desirously recommend that you discuss your thoughts aloud.
>In other words, write-ins take precedence!

Current Major Accords:
A small unnamed spirit of the sky desired you get it a gem like its own from the undersea ruins by the far jungle. You’ve agreed for the sealing price of cruor alongside any one of its aspect’s with the weight of three or less and for it to teach you any one of its spiritual tricks, each to be decided upon your deliverance of the treasure.
This Accord is Blood Sealed by Fire, Wind, and Eighteen Vital Cruor as dual witnessed by the Maelstrom and the Abyss. [Zero Infractions weaken this Accord]

A pirate captain named Davidge Gansaul desired aid in pacifying his ally named Blackwren and you covenanted to aid him at your discretion for a daily tithe of six cruor and the consecrated blood of all he slays and all their souls, with a further condition for possible extensions for his desires with costs to be decided as he mentions them.

Small Skyjána.jpg

Already being close to the sunken city you choose to prioritize your accord with the small sky spirit, one who has been infinitely more agreeable than any other’s you’ve known so far. Davidge, for all his potential usefulness, can wait here with his men. Next to the wheel of the ship you shift into a semi-meditative pose. Around your solid searing form, under the deep dusk and sparse starlight far above the sails, is borne the edge of deep azure that is your imbuement.

As the men busy their preparations gathering lanterns, ropes, packs, picks, and all other assorted things the dark of the night wreaths itself over the railings of the Mad Jewel, crawling steadily from the dusky shadows. They don’t notice until the starlight above fades to the thickening shadows, and one particularly young crewmate yelps.

“The- the darkness!” He screams as he drops a lantern, which he then scrambles for as he and the many other upon the deck begin to huddle together, torches hastily struck and lanterns wielded desperately against your imbued dark. The attentive sky spirit seems to grasp what you’re doing and offers some aid, pulling the slightest of whistling gusts across the deck while gliding over the crew.

“It’s a curse, the island’s cursed,” another whispers, others mumbling similar things, all emitting very pronounced fear. You afford the moment to emit to Davidge that he ought to wait. He gains a contemplative look, and whispers to his shadows, still not at the side where you’re actually standing.

“Fine,” he says impassively, “but if this is some sort of trick you can consider our deal off.” He finishes, his thoughts abound with suspicions. Your objective met, you shift over to look into the perfect dark of the waters, and jump in without so much as a splash. You feel the water warm around your form, but only barely, you feel here that your searing nature is thoroughly hindered. The dark itself concerns you, you can only pierce it so far, the sea itself emitting its ancient tones the same as before.

Suddenly, the world is alight in high contrasts, and you see the world more clearly than you’ve ever seen it before. Far up above the waters you’re descending through you feel a distinct reflection of profound wisdom from the small sky spirit. You understand easily- being accorded with you it’s granting its form of vision for the task, and you feel you should to thank it in some way while you observe more closely the ruins.

Your former seething wet companion called this city Ine-Anakoa, and that it was destroyed in a war fought from both realms, though it didn’t clarify much on the subject. There’s hardly anything left, something that looks similar to the old Aniunakei temples and some submerged buildings close by a great and deep chasm. The temple, like most of the great structures before, emits a tone of non-mortal sacredness. The few buildings by it emit nothing distinct or noteworthy, while the chasm feels distinct. From deep within it emanates a non-mortal sense of consecration, the first you’ve felt, with an eerie undertone of slumber. You don't sense the emanations of the sea spirit that ambushed you before, though you remain wary that it did hide itself from you very easily.

>You’ll take a closer look at those buildings, they’re strangely indistinct.
>You’ll try going to the temple, and see what you’ll find there.
>That slumbering consecration has you curious, go find out its origins.
>Something else, or an addition. (write-in)

The Lone Apprentice, Chapter 1.png

You are a seventeen year old male sorcerer’s apprentice. For almost all of your life you have lived in Windholm, a village isolated halfway up a mountain known as Pine's End. You were sent there an outcast, a freak, after you somehow made your toys levitate at the age of six. You were raised by Master Amsworth, a benevolent and wise concentrationist. You were not only his apprentice, but also his steward. This has lead to you acquiring basic skills such as cooking, hunting, and sewing.

Yesterday, at dusk, Windholm was attacked by a notorious group of savage mercenaries calling themselves “The Horgs”. Who hired them, and why, is yet unknown. During the carnage you managed to flee. You ran for half the night and to your knowledge you are the only survivor. You eventually passed out from exhaustion which had been numbed by fear and grief.

You wake up in a field wearing only a pair of leather pants and a sweat stained tunic which used to be white. Your clothes are damaged from sharp rocks and thorny bushes and damp from the night’s dew. You are hungry and extremely thirsty.

You stand up and look around. To the west a dense and ancient treeline marks the end of the openness provided by the field you woke up in. To the east there is a rapid river running diagonally southeast. Further up ahead, by the treeline, you spot a pillar of smoke from some kind of a cottage as well as three grazing deer due south. Behind you, to the north, are the mountains from which you came. They are rather treacherous and it is astonishing that you made it down with merely bruises and scrapes.

You are determined to discover the truth of what happened at Windholm and bring vengeance to whomever is responsible.

But first off, you have to survive. What is your course of action, apprentice?

Previous thread: >>384408

It is the second day of the Kyowa era, and it is also Mutsuki, the Month of Affection, the heart of winter, when snow falls onto the mountains and street stalls sell hot sake, and the orchard trees stand leafless, but also when the nights start getting shorter and the world begins to warm again. Your name is Komachi Hiroko, ou're sitting in a bookshop in Kyoto, the capital of Nippon, under the quilt of a hori-gotatsu warming your legs, any you're considering several guides to the ancient game of igo.

You flip through the first of the books, the Fundamental Guide to Igo to Chapter 5, which claims to help you "achieve competence in the endgame". There are no tangential illustrations as there were on the cover; instead, there are diagrams of endgame positions, showing a section of the board. These diagrams are followed by commentary discussing optimal strategies to gain the most points from each position, itself only a sub-position of the total board. There are about twenty-five page-sides of material in this chapter.

You put down the book and look at the other two which have been brought to you, and decide to examine Records of the Castle Games of the Tenmei Period, a leather book, its cover bearing a simplified drawing of a Nipponese castle. Skipping its pages, it seems to consist of whole-board diagrams and unfanciful game analysis interspersed with partial-board diagrams showing hypothetical variations on a game's position following a different possible move discussed by the author.

The third and last book on the hori-gotatsu's table platform is Four-Stone Games - Japanese Translation, another leather book, its covering sweat-stained as if it had been much read. An introduction on the first page gives credit for the content to 過百齡, a Chinese master, and explains the book's focus as being games in which one player recieves four extra stones at the start of the game to compensate for weakness, real or nominal. His name's pronunciation in Chinese is _probably_ ' Guo Bailing '. Inside the book are many diagrams with analysis, each point on the board being referred to by a single unique Chinese character from a poem. On the inside cover of the book is a comment from the author, reading: 「It is the author's intention to elucidate the countless variations and let people realize that they all follow the basic principles.」

All this reading in the warmth of the hori-gotatsu is making you feel sleepy, but you expect it would be rude to nap in the middle of someone's shop.

Character Sheet
Level 19 (92/100 exp)
Punished ‘Venom’ Bob

Human - The most numerous of the races in Zeltanna, humans are average in every respect, yet are nevertheless the dominant species. They engage in every kind of trade and craft and have invented a few themselves.

Wizard - Wizards are the counterpart to mages, they cannot naturally manipulate the aether but do so through rituals. Rituals come in many forms, depending on the race and culture of the wizard. Humans tend to favor the written word and the spoken word and as such their rituals consist of spoken incantations and runic diagrams. Through these rituals wizards can temporarily contract or summon spirits and use their powers. Summoning of more powerful spirits requires much greater preparation and meticulous attention to detail, lest the spirit break free and wreak havoc.

In the late seventies through the early nineties, drug violence in South America only continued to escalate. A successful revolution by the IRA in Ireland encouraged similar revolts in central Africa that devolved into decades-long civil wars, and resulted in a USSR faction in the Russian government. Human trafficking for both the organ and the sex trades exploded between south-east Asia and eastern Europe. In the face of such chaos, government run militaries and various agencies were too caught up in red tape to be effective. Frustrated with procedure causing a lack of results, the wealthier citizens of the world turned to someone who would not be weighed down by the bureaucratic process.

Now, in 2032, the private military industry is a widely accepted fact of life, a necessary evil for the security of the world. While some resent these men for what they represent, still more turn to them when government forces would fail.

You are Jan Kowalski, a Polish special forces operator turned private military contractor. In return for cash and other liquid currency, you, and men like you, go places national militaries refuse, and that local police forces avoid.

Well, there goes my dirty secret: I copy/paste the intro from archived threads. First post coming.
>>
You nearly decide to go see who’s drinking at the base.. But ultimately you can't muster the curiosity, or the ambition. Besides, it feels like your life has just been go, go, go lately. You’ll need to unwind, or you’re pretty sure nightmares like last night’s will be a common occurrence.

In the end, you just watch more movies until you and Casimir fall asleep on the couch.

Your brain seems to apologize for last night’s bullshit, and gives you quite the pleasant dream where Bridget and Kelly were actually curious sorority sisters, which you appreciate.

You wake in the morning, still on the couch in the clothes you fell asleep in. Your date with Bridget is at six, so you have plenty of time to kill before then. You just need to decide how to spend it.

(Hello! This is my first quest thread, so don't judge me too harshly. I thought I'd try my hand at this, and I hope that you like it.) Medieval Earth has reached a new achievement: The discovery of magic, and supernatural beings. Mages guilds and schools were built to study the new wonders of magic, and churches were burned for worshipping a God that was proven not to exist. Worship of the new gods and the learning of magic had blessed mankind with greater knowledge, increased lifespans, heightened abilities, and greater strength. And along with all this was the Founding of the Angelic Regiment, a group of elite soldiers and warriors that worked under the New Gods and fought for peace. However, magic also brought about evil. Necromancy, Unholy rituals, and Demons were weaved into society, and most notably the Demon Legion, a group of devout demon worshippers whose only goal was to spread chaos and mass hysteria throughout the world. With a golden age of magic and discovery only just beginning, already there was a war. And in the middle of that war, is you.

Rules: (I'm not entirely sure how the whole dice thing works, but I'll try my best.) To control your character's actions, you will write up what that character will do, and I will randomly choose which one is the chosen action. You will also make dice rolls on each response to decide how well that action turns out.

I am interested, but probably in the wrong time zone.

>Here's how this quest is going to work. Other than the first few options, I'll almost always allow write-ins. In fact, I usually won't give prompts. You guys are playing the main character, after all.
>Sometimes, you'll end up in situations that are risky, or have a significant opportunity for failure. At those times, I'll have you guys roll 1d100s against a DC of my choosing. I'll be taking the average of first 3 rolls, unless it's something the MC is good at- in which case it will be the highest of first 3.
>It's been a long time since I've run a quest. Nearly five months, jeez. /qst/ didn't exist at the time, so I'm going to give this a try!

The counselor's office is cluttered, covered in accolades that don't belong to the inhabitant. Degrees on the walls, expensive oaken desks and cabinets, even a soft leather chair. An iridescent dweomer brightens the room, gleaming both red and blue in a direct disregard for physics; The result reminds you of a blacklight. It would be impressive, but...

You sniff. There's no possible way the councilor was the one to cast the dweomer. He's clean-shaven, snappily-dressed. His hair is even parted and slicked perfectly. He's too clean and collected to be a real Magus. Hell, he probably isn't even an Adept. He doesn't even have an Implement on him.

You could blink it the dweomer in a second if you wanted, and there'd be nothing he could do about it. Other than turn on the electronic lights, of course. For a moment you consider it.

"Adept Angwaz, I'm sure you know why I've requested to speak with you," He said, smiling politely. It's an expression that reminds you of a rat.

"It's about my thesis." You say.

"Precisely." He says. "While I understand the urge to do something... impressive, to endear yourself to other wizards, there are some things that are quite simply impossible."

He frowns. "I'm afraid that as your counselor, I can't condone this. Moreover, the board of governors care a great deal for their image. I strongly suspect that if you continue on your path, it's probable they may retract your scholarship in order to prevent you from... well, making them a laughingstock."

"You're saying that if I insist on keeping my thesis, they'll remove my scholarship." You say, voice flat.

"Essentially." He says, nodding politely. "It's good that you see it the way I do. Do you have any other thesis-"

"I think I'm going to stick with what I have now."

>[] Loremaster: You did expect this kind of reaction, but you've done your work; It's possible. Nobody else has studied the hermetic arts as much as you have, after all.
>[] Invoker: You don't give a shit what anybody says- even if you get kicked out, you're going to finish your magic and shove it in their stupid faces.
>[] Savant: The archmages never got to where they are by playing along with the laws of magic. Neither will you. You're inspired, and there's nothing more dangerous than a mage with inspiration.

Turn #38:
http://pastebin.com/Fa3a26iH

The Northern centaur, Marty, approaches your city.
>"Is it time we move out to meet this 'Queen'?"
Your plans are to led him to meet the Queen. Of course, he doesn't believe the Queen exists, and neither you nor him are quite sure what she'll do to Marty.
You enter the caves, with two other chimps, Marty, and two other centaurs, and greet the Queen, using the Hag as a telepathic tether between your mind and the Queen's.
>"Good evening, my Queen." you start. "This man is Marty. His people wander the plains above your Empire."
Marty is shocked and fearful. He truly didn't believe the Queen existed,
>"M-my Queen," he stutters out, terrified.
>"Hmm, I haven't seen horsemen in so long," the Queen quips. "Harambe, for what reason do you bring this man to me?"

What do you do?
>Claim Marty's your ally
>State Marty's intentions
>Betray Marty
>Something else?

>Two other actions remaining

As you return to the East Wing for dinner, you hear a skittering noise come from around the corner behind you.

"Ah! Stanley! Good evening." You recognize it as Annabelle's voice. You turn around to greet her.

"Hey. I was just heading over to dinner."

"As was I. I simply must have somthing to eat after working so much today. I had to help David and Euanthe set up booby traps in the gardens. What was your task?"

"I helped out Jezula in the kitchen make some..... things."

"So you have met our head Chef? Very nice woman, Jezula. Acts like everyone's grandmother."

"Yea" you agree.

You both eventually reach the dining hall. The second you step in, Gerald immediately walks over to you.

"Mr. Morrison, as per my duty as head butler, I must inquire as to where you were working today?"

What do you say?
>"I was working with Jezula all day."
>Come clean
>Make somthing up (write what)

The blinding light in front of your eyes and the sudden popping of ears wakes you up. You look around to see that you’re underwater with maybe 20 other people.

Looking up you see the surface which looks to be quite far away but seems to be slowly get closer. A few people are waking up like you but they start float/ swimming to the surface. As you look around more it seems to be that you are in a large beaker but without the labels.

The only reason you haven’t began to float up is due to the heavy clothes you’re wearing. Now do you decide to lose so over your clothes to swim up to the surface or do you decide to wait for the water level to come down to you?

> Lose some clothing and swim to the top of whatever the hell you are in
> Wait for the water to come down to you no point in swimming to the top if the water is just going to slowing come back down to you

Swim to the walls. Break the beaker.
>>
>>399380
You slowly swim over to the side of the container and beat on the transparent walls but it doesn’t seem to have an effect on the walls. Pulling out your small pocket knife, you try your luck with it but their seems to be no effect.

As you beat on the water you see the people just vanish when they hit the top of the water. Scared of what would happen if the water level reaches you swim further down and continue to hit the walls but you can’t even see a dent in the wall.

You look around to see only 3 people are left in container and have no idea what's happen but slowly the water reaches them and they disappear too. In a desperate attempt to not vanish you try to put your chest on the bottom of the tank but you feel the absence of water on the back of your head. Suddenly you feel a strong sense of vertigo and see

>Congratulations, You lasted the longest in your group for the first test so you will be rewarded with the special skill
> ~~~~ Library ~~~~
> Usually you will just receive a few Runes but you did something no else has try before so Good Luck!

After reading the lines of text you see a bright light then see thick trees climbing up into the sky, with large green plants all around you. Observing your surroundings you suddenly feel hot, your multiple layers don’t seem to be working quite well in the jungle.
>>
>>399474
In this hot weather you decide to lose all of your extra layers of clothing. Now that you not as hot you decide your next course of action

>Climb up the tall trees around you
> Explore the area around you
> Try to use your skill “Library”
